Didn't women's football used to have a coverage category on OSC? That's where I first heard of the sport and the fact that my old homtown of Jacksonville had a team (the Dixie Blues).

Did the world of women's football get too disjointed, or simply not professional enough (like some of the indoor leagues not covered) to warrant coverage?

Just askin'--not complainin'!

i would expect it to have a category here, for sure...
heck the NWFA is growing like mad right now... and the WPFL is heading into their playoffs. there are a couple of VERY active Women's pro football GROUPS at YAHOO GROUPS.

We used to cover women's football, but the sport did not take any measurable steps toward true professionalism. We often had to wait days for scores, and when they did come in, they were often so lopsided, we questioned the competitiveness of several organizations. Communications with the leagues and many teams was very poor as well. We finally had to ask ourselves, if they don't care, why should we?

Does that mean you might stop covering the NIFL soon?

I thought that was the issue--it makes sense to me!

thanx kindly for the response - i have noticed especially the WPFL website. looks great, but good Lord there's scant information on it! and you are right, it takes forEVER for them to post scores after their Saturday games. now, i followed the NWFA Season last year with great interest, via their website and google news alerts, and their newsletter, and the website is a rambling kind of in-your-face ambiguous kaleidoscope of info, but it's much more prompt. that league seems to be really growing like crazy. there's like nearly ten new teams coming into the league next season.
p.s. - this site is hands down the best of it's kind...

So true!

Both leagues have forfeits as well, and teams that don't complete their season too.

The other rationale that Paul has used when answering this question in the past:

OSC doesn't cover "Semi-pro" football. Everything we've seen so far from the women's football leagues is that they are not above that level.

Don't tell the ladies that organize the WPFL because they will affirm their players in fact do get paid and therefore the P in WPFL is correct. They would take offense in labeling the WPFL as semi pro.

If you follow up on how much they get paid and the particulars of being required to work volunteer hours (carwashes, etc.) they'll walk around your questions or flatout refuse to answer.
