My question is why does this player think the ABA is a better option then playing in the CBA.

Also shouldn't have the CBA team who picked him do their homework and make sure he wanted to play for them.

Buffalo Silverbacks will be skyrocketing to the top of the ABA (American Basketball Association) this year with the signing of another all-star forward in DayShawn Wright. The exciting addition is creating a buzz in Silverbacks camp as DayShawn was chosen first overall in the CBA (Continental Basketball Association) but was first scouted by the Buffalo franchise.

DayShawn is a 6'7"; 215lb explosive forward that came from just down the I-90 and Syracuse, N.Y. He was part of the electrifying 2004 Oak Hill Academy championship team that defeated LeBron James and St.Vincent-St. Mary before going to Syracuse University where he played with names like Hakeem Warrick and Gerry McNamara. DayShawn has the ability to energize not only the crowd, but his teammates around him and considers himself an "inside player that can create from outside as well". When asked about his choice to come to the ABA DayShawn said, "I made the decision based on the competition level of the league and am looking forward to getting a shot at the NBA."

Being the first overall pick, DayShawn was chosen over some big names like Jai Lewis (George Mason), Allen Ray (Villanova), Gerry McNamara (Syracuse University) and Kevin Pittsnogle (West Virginia).

Dr. Richard L. Jacob, GM and Head Coach of the Silverbacks said, "Because of our commitment to excellence as an organization, DayShawn is in the right place at the right time to pursue his dream of the NBA. We are certain this experience will provide him with the necessary preparation."

90% of the players selected in the CBA draft have signed deals overseas or with the NBA (D-league deals). Most of the new CBA teams are run by ABA people, it will take them some time before they adjust to the real world, the Alley Cats however did very well for a first timer, they drafted a number of signable players yet they only have two open roster spots.

The Alley Cats have always done well from strictly a "basketball point of view". However, this team represents EVERYTHING wrong with minor league basketball IMO. They do little to no marketing. Did the Alley Cats even HAVE a draft party? Draft parties throughout the league at local bars USED to be the highlight of the CBA pre-season. Lack of marketing means the Alley Cats play before family and friends. Last season some of the family and friends included the Joe Newman clan. Now they can't even count on Joe anymore to help enhance home game crowds.

The website below has a few photos from the last few Steelheads CBA draft parties...and thanks Sean (SMc) for letting me use your camera that time I forgot mine.
