I saw in a recent article someone stating that the GLIFL would change to the "United States Indoor Football League".

First off, wasn't that used by some Vegas casino league a few years back? I assume they had to buy the name from them?

Two, anyone else hear that this is infact happening, other than the article?

Interesting these leagues that start off with the premise that "We are going to stay regional" with the league name, and then decide they don't want to be boxed in by that (first the "Atlantic IFL", and now the "Great Lakes IFL").

Great Lakes doesn't really cover teams in Massachusetts or Maryland. That said, there's no official name change in place, and the Surge (not Storm) and Tide both signed on to be GLIFL members despite the fact they're nowhere near a Great Lake (the same can be said about Lehigh Valley and NY/NJ).

USIFL.com redirects to GLIFL.com. Can you explain that Josh?

Folks in Worcester seem to be claiming that a team in the USIFL (as stated in a news article) called the New England Surge is planning on setting up shop there. Hmmm.....

I know what the newspaper article said. And I'm simply saying that they jumped the gun. There's no official yes or no for the USIFL moniker. But the league (intelligently) bought the USIFL domain in the case we do go that route.

Don't worry, you'll know if/when we go USIFL when I know if/when we go USIFL. It'll be announced as such. But right now, I honestly don't see it.

I hope you don't change.

It is more fun to say "gliffle" than it is to say "yousiffle"

Like I've said, if you want to change the name, the GIFL is always there, just drop the 'Lakes' from it.

I personally like GLIFL but the name change does sound very fitting and it gives it more of a national appeal for players and fans. Either way it is a good league and I believe it will succeed with either name.

Based on my work/research for and on trademarks, the USIFL, USIFA and anything close to it will probably get rejected by the USPTO because of its similarity to the UIF and their trademark that is already registered.

So any league that uses that name will more than likely have issues with the UIF.

Not necessarily. The United States Hockey League and the United Hockey League are both trademarked and the names are just as similar.

Yes, but I'm willing to bet that the trademark people would figure people could tell the difference between a hockey league and an indoor football league.

I assume you're just being sarcastic. But in case you're not, we're were discussing whether or not the PTO would issue a trademark based on the similarities of the names. I was just using those two hockey leagues as an example to point out that it has been done.

Two different hockey leagues with very similar names.

In the case of the USIFL, USIFA, and the UIF, three indoor football leagues with similar names.

If the GLIFL is gonna change their name, go with Northeast Indoor Football League(NEIFL so as not to bring the wrath of an evil woman)

On the contrary, I think it WOULD bring the wrath of an evil woman.

I don't think they'd want to appear as the north conference of the EIFL.

a couple days ago, i tried to access the GLIFL website and couldn't get through. i went to google just to see what'd pull up when i typed in glifl football, and up came a website, "opifl.com," and it went straight to it, and it WAS in fact the GLIFL website... my question is: what the-?

Back in April of '05 the GLIFL was going to be named the Ohio-Pennsylvania Indoor Football League. It was promptly changed to the Great Lakes Indoor Football League, so the web address just redirects you from opifl to glifl.

thanx for the skinny... but i still can't get to the GLIFL.COM site via the original url i used to be able to get there through. i just now tried it again, and sure enough, the original url goes nowhere, at least from where i sit, but this opifl.com url takes me to the familiar glifl site...
