The PIFL Looks Towards 2008

San Angelo , TX – The PIFL is announcing that they will forego the 2007 and focus on the continual development of the league for 2008.

“We have determined, through our due diligences, that the 2007 would not be feasible for the PIFL and its interested markets,” stated PIFL Executive Director Chris Simpson. “We have every intention of playing in 2008. This decision gives us another 12 to 18 months to really get it dialed in.”

“We want to build this thing right, bottom line. I determined early on in this process that if we where not at specific points in development by September 1 we would not make a go of it in 2007,” Simpson added. I’m not interested in simply putting together a league for the sake of having a league or for the sake of grabbing markets. Nor do we want to cause additional damage to teams and their markets.”

The PIFL began as an opportunity for teams and markets to change the culture of indoor football. Over 30 teams and markets expressed interest in a league built on a foundation of integrity and honesty. Several major corporations also expressed interest in helping develop the PIFL as sponsors.

“We have very solid relationships with a lot of people wanting to be part of the PIFL and we will continue those relationships,” added Simpson. They understand the need for us to continue to develop the league before having teams step on the field. They are behind us 100% in our decision to wait.”

“There is still a lot of uncertainty despite the changes made to other leagues and the development of new ones. We will continue with our concept and structure. But, we will build it better.”

That sounds strangely familiar...

I've heard this 10 times before from other teams/leagues...And not one has gone on to play the next season!

TO ALL POTENTIAL MARKETS: Learn from past experiences-go af2, GLIFL, UIF, and/or WIFL!

I don't see what's wrong with waiting if they aren't ready... better than going into a situation where you aren't prepared and wind up messing things up.

It's just, I heard this from other teams/leagues several times before.
And not one of them has gone on to play that next year.

So, until I hear otherwise, I'm guessing the PIFL is RIP, DOA, and all that other med stuff.

Yeah, I agree with Tatonka here. The PIFL says they want to do it right. I know for a fact that Chris Simpson didn't want to start the PIFL until 2008 in the first place and he was pseudo-pushed into it by forces beyond his control.

Now he has the full year and a half from now to put together what he wants to have in a league. This is one that I actually see breaking that pattern.

Sorry about my ranting.

I just didn't trust indoor football that much.

Then again, the PIFL is "The League of Dreams," so I should trust them.

Excuse me...

(goes to talk to lab assistant)-Okay, Igor, turn on the freezer, and thaw me out in Spring '08!

Agreed Tatonka. One note though, if the PIFL ever plans to get off the ground, they need to stop with the stupid plan of not disclosing anything. How are you going to convince teams, (who normally are tied into a multi year contract with a league) to cancel their contracts and go with a new league, without any other team out there stating they are talking or thinking about moving. If the teams contracts have expired, no team owner will even want to talk to a league that doesnt have any other owners talking to them (any known to the public though).

In this business, you have one shot to grab a teams attention to move. They also need to concentrate on one of those many regions they have planned to actually have "a beginning". You cant start a national league if you actually dont have any teams (that I know of) who have actually joined the PIFL.

PIFL, a nice dream, I dont ever see it becoming a reality without some serious strategy changes.

Exit is exactly right. Chris was very reluctant to even mention the PIFL starting this season. The climate seemed to make the timing seem right, and there were many of us pushing him to start earlier than he wanted.

I'm sure if he had proceeded he would've done just fine this year, but with another full year to prepare, as he had been planning, I'm sure that this league will be quite special.

People would be surprised at the quality teams that had contacted the PIFL, some considering the league very seriously, some were perhaps useing the PIFL as leverage. I really think the confidentiality that the PIFL folk stuck with in their talks will pay off in the long run.

Best of luck next year to the PIFL. I look forward to seeing the league form the way you want it to form.

As for the rest of indoor football. This looks to be another very interesting year coming up!

Yeah, they weren't not disclosing things to the teams...just keeping it from the public. Every league keeps inner-workings-on from the public.

Think about it...the AIFL started really pushing around December/January of 2004/2005, but Haines has said before the wheels got into motion no later than June 2004.

The UIF teams had talked about leaving over a year before they actually did.

The GLIFL co-founders had discussed their plans and got them going before they announced themselves (and they were of course under the radar awhile as teams came into being amongst other things).

Can't remember how long before the NIFL went official they started talking about doing it, I really didn't follow the indoor game to any great extent until the '01 season started.

So, the PIFL not disclosing stuff to the public isn't that big a deal. Unless it's like the 2002 NIFL season where the official schedule was released on March 12 or so (the season kicked off March 9). Then that could be an issue.

Kidding aside, 2002 was a pretty good year for indoor football, so I guess that wasn't that big a deal (yes, it was, but it didn't hurt the league or teams).

In the past rumors have run rampid about other leagues. I'll believe it when I see it.
