View Full Version : My indoor football predictions

NIFL:
2007 season will be the NIFL's last (if they play/finish that year-or if they're not that cockroach league), Greensboro will go AIFL/WIFL, Arkansas and whatever cronies they may have will form a new league in 2008-I'd call it the MSIFL (Mid-South Indoor Football League)
AIFL:
AIFL will be in rebuilding mode. Expect them to stay around awhile.
UIF:
Having so many solid teams from the NIFL will behoove them. They've been waiting and not wanting to spread so thin so soon-this is their year to shine!
GLIFL:
Will still be "smarter than the average indoor league", although they will experience some of the "growing pains" the UIF did in year 2. Expect more leagues to do 7-on-7 ball.
Intense:
Expect SWLA to leave the league, and a lot more Texas teams from other leagues to join. I think eventually it will be Texas' one and only indoor football league.
WIFL:
Expect them to be known as the "UIF of the South."
PIFL:
Not so sure what will go on there. My guess is they will announce the whole league at once (I think they'll have finished the application process and all that by then) and then play their season. Has anybody seen Jerry Hewitt?
APFL:
Not done yet, but they might want to write their will about now (My guess is Kansas will go UIF, all others will join Arkansas' league). Look at the bright side, at least that Aviators player won't have to serve his full suspension!
EIFL:
Since the HitMen in essence are the EIFL, it won't get off the ground. (Too bad, because BayShore is looking pretty solid).
Just my thoughts.
Now it's time to put in yours!

I ask for foregiveness. I look at the subject, then all I want to contemplate is a round of Celebrity Death Match with Jim Terry, Carolyn Shiver, and Andrew Haines. I know... I'm bad.

I look at your predictions and here is my 2 cents worth:
NIFL - 2007 could very well be its last year in the indoor football biz unless the league does a complete overhaul
AIFL - Will fare well in 2007
UIF - Will continue to grow and thrive and do well in 2007
GLIFL - Will experience some "growing pains" along the way, but will fare very well for itself
PIFL - Not sure what will happen with this league, but it's best to wait and see
Intense - If SW Louisiana leaves, league could be in for a tough time
WIFL - Will fare well in its inaugural season
APFL - Should experience success in '07
EIFL - Probably won't get off the ground, especially with a jackass like Jim Terry shooting off his yapper
Thank you for the chance for me to express my views, Minor League Man.

Have seen nothing at all to indicate Louisiana is looking to leave the Intense Football League. The indications we've received are that they're very comfortable there.

I met with one of the league owners for about 2 hours in his office yesterday.
Louisiana (not SWLA since they left the NIFL): Louisiana is definately not leaving the league.
Laredo: Whether they make it into the af2 or not, which they probably won't, Laredo is out. If they do get into the af2, they aren't expected to last more than one season. The only reason that the af2 is pushing so heavily for Katy and Laredo is because the RGV franchise has threatened to move to another league because of travel issues. Regardless, the IFL doesn't want Laredo back. They were the worst run team in the league last season. Their highest attended game was 1200 fans and that's because half the tickets were given away for that game, most others as well.
Frisco: They are in the IFL without a doubt and will play in 2007.
Ft. Worth: They will not be in the IFL for 2007. The only setback they are encountering there is that they can't secure the dates at the arena, something about a Jehovah's Witness group having all dates locked up for that venue. Not really sure what that's all about. That may also have something to do with the Ft. Worth Brahmas team (CHL) not playing this coming season as well.
Corpus Christi: The af2 is indeed making a push for the Corpus Christi market, for the same reason they are pursuing Laredo and Katy, to appease RGV. But the city and venue has pledge their undying support to the Hammerheads and has ensured the IFL that they have no intentions of letting that happen. I think the fact that the Hammerheads have pulled an average attendance of over 6000 fans per game speaks for itself. And allowing the the af2 to come in and pull the rug out from under them would only damage the market and fan support.
The IFL is also in negotiations with about 5 other markets, which I've been asked not to name, 3 of which they say are a near lock for 2007. My prediction is that the IFL will play with 8 to 10 solid franchises for the 2007 season, with more joining the fold for 2008.

Your report jibes pretty well with what I've been told, too.

If Laredo's fulfilled all of their IFL obligations, I don't see why they shouldn't be given another shot at playing...maybe they can right the ship!

Normally, I would tend to agree with your comment. But there are other issues involved. Prior to the news surfacing about Laredo's desire to make a run at the af2, the IFL had every intention of keeping Laredo on for another season and doing everything in their ability to assist them in righting that ship. However, the Laredo owner chose to deceive the IFL into believing that they wanted to come back next season, instead of being honest and just telling them what he was doing. Had he said from the beginning that he wanted to try getting into the af2 and if that didn't work he would stay in the IFL, then the league owners wouldn't have had an issue with it. That's what happens when you burn one bridge before building another, especially considering that the bridge you're trying to build probably won't last as long as the one as you're currently using.

I can't speak for the IFL, but the impression I received was that if Laredo wanted to come back, the league would at least consider it. Didn't sound as if it would fight to keep the team from the leaving the IFL.

Actually, that is correct. However, they would only be allowed back into the IFL with pretty much the same arrangement they will have if they get accepted into the af2. They have to forfeit majority ownership and allow the league to find new management.
