City of Louisville (KY) officials announced yesterday that plans for $450 million dollar stadium for the University of Louisville mens and womans basketball will proceed. That leaves Freedom Hall open in 4 years for a team to play there. Kentucky Fairgrounds officials say that minor-league hockey is there main target for the winter months. Hopefully. somebody gets a fire under their butt and gets the ball rolling with a team in Broadbent arena which is 50 feet away from Freedom Hall. Hockey is back!! at some point.

Where did you see the Fairgrounds officials say they wanted hockey? Also, see my reply in the ECHL boards.

For the past 2 years I have been putting forth a great effort to bring back hockey to Louisville. My only problem has been that I don't have the cash it would take to do it myself. What I have been doing is continually speaking to members of the AHL, ECHL, UHL and CHL to remind them of what they already know. Louisville is a great hockey town!! By the way the CHL's president played for Louisville. Great guy, Mr. Brad Treliving. The content of what I would provide to these leagues is more for them to relay to an owner who either is looking to relocate a team or bring a new team to Louisville. Part of which would be where a team would play. Given the fact that I've been doing this pre-arena, I've had to make sure Broadbent Arena was available at all. So, I have been in contact with the very wonderful people at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. Unless something has changed since the new Arena deal, they are willing to lease Broadbent. Keep in mind it does not have permanent ice so a team would have to have a portable system. All anyone need do is contact the KFEC and speak to the head of the Scheduling department. Hopefully Louisville has hockey again and I'll be first in line to get my tickets!!

People with money in Louisville should be your target. It's the owner...

AHL is no longer in Kentucky (Left FOR Cleveland in 2001, now in Worcester and the Louisville franchise is now in Iowa) and is barely hanging in in Ohio----Cincinnati now w/ just the ECHL AND Cleveland approved for 2007----THE only franchises available are Cincinnati's AHL entry(not likely since the owners have the arena as well) or Edmonton's and the Oilers have stated they are looking to reestablish that entry by 2007.
how would Louisville gain a team if the building is at least 4 years away and the AHL has closed the door to expansion....

Cincy has two buildings
What he's trying to convey (I think) is the opinion that the current owners would be less likely to move/sell the team because they own the building it played at.
