Assistant GM J. Cunningham was let go after giving his heart and soul to the BlueFish for the last eight + years.

John was fired this week...after demonstrating unquestioned loyalty to the city of Bridgeport and the BlueFish organization. The team almost went bankrupt twice yet Cunningham refused to abandon ship.

Let me just say this about the Bridgeport BlueFish: A proud Atlantic League franchise that is always competitive...always.

Charlie Dowd should never have been stripped of his duties...in July.

Anybody remember Mike Guilfoyle, pitcher for the BlueFish? Us Jersey folks called him the "Bayonne Breeze". Mike will tell you what a class act John Cunningham is...

This is just a guess, but do you think it's possible the failure of the Fish at the box office could be the reason? Year in and year out the Bluefish are in the hunt for the Atlantic League Championship but they do it in front of an empty house. They have a great team, a beautiful stadium, a sizable population, very little competition for the entertainment dollar and yet the fans stay away in droves. More than anything, the Fish need someone with marketing saavy. They need someone who can find a way to put the fannies in the seats. Cunningham and Dowd may be great guys but apparently they were not getting the job done.

Yeah...I tend to agree. Bridgeport attendance is not what it used to be. Given its prime location in Fairfield County, no question the Bridgeport franchise should be able to draw 350,000 a season. Maybe new blood will get the franchise turned around?

The AC Press is running a series on minor league baseball in NJ. The Press mentions that the NJ independent league teams are struggling attendance wise with the exception of Somerset. In defense of the Atlantic League, they located NJ franchises in downtrodden cities like Newark, Camden and AC in an effort to help help revitalize these places.

The two affiliated teams in Lakewood and Trenton easily draw over 400,000 fans a season.

I've been a 'Fish fan for years. Here is a link that was in the Conn Post that pretty much wraps it up.
