In an artical today about the Huntington Heros moving to the BSSA Arena there are photos of the news conference. View the photos and check out the footballs on the tables. Could be the new footballs for the league in 2007.

Very strange. They don't even look like footballs. It's too "gimmicky" for me.

Considering their new logo I wouldnt be surprised.

They do almost have a nerf football type of look. Sort of a "hey look at me" kind of thing.

I think with the Gimmickly comment he was talking about the ball on the right.

Took a friend to an AIFL game this year, and his biggest criticism was the AIFL football. He said it looked like something you'd give to a kid whose hand was too small to hold a real football. I'd like to see leagues get away from the rubber balls and go to leather or at least a composite. More expensive, yes, but it looks a lot more big-league.

I liked the balls the AIFL used last year. The red white and blue looks cool if the quarterback throws a good spiral. And I'm pretty sure it was made of a composite. The only problem there is that it is extremely slippery when it gets wet. (from sweat or however a ball gets wet indoors) And before anybody starts, that is not an excuse for our high number of turnovers in the American Bowl ;)

The AIFL gameballs are composite leather, not rubber. I would imagine they will never go to leather because some teams can hardly afford to pay their players, let alone $80 footballs going into the stands on every FG, XP, or kickoff.

It also looks like they are going to a, more conventional, 4 panel ball. The blue and white one appears to only have 4 panels, as apposed to the five panel red white and blue one they used before.
The five panel ball is thinner than most the footballs I have collected. Easier to throw maybe, but it must be harder to kick?
I do like these new ones better than the old one. The old one does look like a toy in some of the pictures I have seen.

I saw two different footballs at the Danville Demolition press conference.
One was the traditional one.
The other was a white ball, with a red square pattern on one end, and a blue one on the other.
Haines told me that the white one wasn't official, that it was a prototype (but they might consider it)

It wouldn't be a surprise if those are the new footballs. It would fit in well, a cartoon football for a bush, joke league.

Personally, i have this nostalgia thing for the Red/White/Blue ball of the AIFL, because i grew up in the 60's in DETROIT when the ABA was actually a bit more popular than the NBA. the ball is just way cool , to me...

i like the red white and blue ball, but i've heard that a lot of teams didn't have them all the time. did the teams have a choice or were they required to all use the same ball?

The red white and blue ball was FINE excpet it was a little too big. My hands can grasp a regulation ball perfectly but the AIFL ball stretches my hand a little. Perhaps I notice it more than most because of a hand injury.
The problem last year was they didn't get an adequate supply of balls to each team. Need I mention an example?
I had two of those balls. I gave one to the crowd upstairs who had no shot at a ball.
My youngest son has the other ball.
The old ball was fine. The old logo was fine. It was the management that was the problem (that's a understatement). The new logos and balls stink!
IN THEIR EFFORT TO CHANGE EVERYTHING, THEY ARE THROWING THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATHWATER.
Maybe they could go 6 panels? Two regular, four smaller on the other side of the ball? Oh heck screw it.

aw man... well, the ball's still...
RED/WHITE/BLUE - but i like the other ball better; more of a direct parallel to the old ABA ball in the 60's...
boo hoo
