Edmonton?

Someone on another board said the Oilers are soon to call a press conference to announce they have purchased a WHL team, and will relocate it to Alberta's Capital for 2004-05. He offered no source, but I was wondering if anyone else has heard anything to the same effect?

There will be no whl team in edmonton in the near future.Back in the summer there was a group that wanted to bring a team to edmonton.
Quote the whl at this time has no plans in the near future of expanding into edmonton.

The Oilers confirmed they are interested in buying an existing team (Moose Jaw being the most commonly named option) and moving it to Edmonton. They did say however that there are not offers out right now, and that they are prepared to wait for the right fit - so scratch WHL to Edmonton in time for next year.

The WHL itself says that while it wont expand, Edmonton would be at the top of their list for a relocated team, along with Winnipeg and a third city I can't recall of the top of my head.
