In an article in the Charleston Post and Courier (http://www.charleston.net/stories/?newsID=96572§ion=sports), the SandSharks coach denies using any ineligible players in last week's game against Montgomery, which the league ruled a Charleston forfeit despite a win on the field. The NIFL claims the SandSharks used at least six ineligible players, but the Charleston QB agrees with the coach that only one player was even added to the roster in more than three weeks. The league would not release the names of the allegedly ineligible players.
So who's lying, the NIFL or the SandSharks?

my money is on nifl.
Should've started a poll.
Sounds too much like the fabrication used to keep Daytona Beach out of the playoffs last year.
Who's lying?

I haven't been following NIFL long enough to no the tendencies, but it seems suspect that the NIFL won't show evidence of the infraction. Following the "innocent until proven guilty" model, as it is now, I'd say the NIFL is lying

I'm going with the surpising side- THE NIFL
it's actually the not surprising side that they would do something scandalist- wouls the NIFL do something like make stuff up to keep a team oout of the play-offs- of course they would!!

I'm gonna say the NIFL. It just seems too strange how they say the Sharks used illegal players but won't say which ones.

This was a rhetorical question, right?

I found it interesting that the Charleston coach owned up to the fact that the team did not keep stats all year or send out game film as they were supposed to. Hard to blame him as it sounded like he was trying to wear several hats the way it was, and may or may not have been paid to do it. The league needs to take a closer look at any franchises in which Oronde Gadsden is involved in the future. Counting Florida and Miami, this is the third one that hasn't done all it was supposed to do. Now I'm not sure it's Gadsden's fault entirely, but he and his management team(s) have to do better.
My gut reaction is that if the coach had messed up the roster or done something wrong, he would have owned up to it. In the article he's adamant he didn't do what the NIFL accuses him of. The NIFL could have put the issue to bed by producing the list of ineligible players, but it didn't. Why not?

The NIFL's first excuse for no Sandsharks playoffs was the lack of stats, which is actually understandable. Since they beat Montgomery, the standings would have appeared that Charleston would have one more victory than Montgomery. In what is surely an attempt to make things look copesetic and normal, the NIFL needed a convenient excuse to remove this charleston victory, so they fabricated a story about ineligible players.
I also find it interesting that there is an asterisk next to this forfeit on the NIFL schedule page. How about the NIFL tells us about the other 26 forfeits (there were 27 forfeits this season by my count)

Also of note, the Charleston Sandsharks website has been suspended. Guess someone isn't paying the bills.

See 2005 Miami Morays and 2006 Florida Frenzy. Same stuff, different team.

If the league is lying, then I tend to think the Sharks ownership is in on it.
If they're not lying, then Carolyn Shiver is an idiot for not coordinating a response.
Seems to me the money ran out.

I am going with the crowd on this one as the NIFL is probably the one at fault. I have to agree that something needs to be done as far as stats and forfiet wins. A team should be penalized at the beginning not later for not making their commitment. Stats were missing from Florida and C'town for the Guard and I am sure other teams are missing. As far as forfiets, the team not showing up or unable to host should be held accountable for the money lost as well as fined. Not being allowed in the playoffs is no big deal to some and should have no bearing on the situation. The bottom line I feel is we need better leadership in the League office, someone with the B-lls to stand up and take charge.

NIFL claims to have a fax with the roster. My fax puts a time, date and phone number on each page. I sure theirs does too. Any chance the new Montgomery owners where made any "special" promises to take over the team? Sorry, I know it was a crazy question. After all, the is the NIFL we are talking about.
