Here's a report out of Portland about the ABA's new "solid" ownership group, recently announced by Joe Newman. This one makes Wayne Butler look like a good owner!!!

Here are a few excerpts:
"Mary J. Liss, the majority owner of a newly awarded professional basketball franchise in Portland, has filed for bankruptcy numerous times in Oregon and has an outstanding warrant for her arrest in Michigan, The Oregonian has learned. "
"Liss, 38, admitted that her financial background is shaky at best. But she says that she isn't interested in making money off the American Basketball Association franchise, and that her dream is to bring a low-cost professional basketball team to local fans. "
"I have been in a whirlwind of financial trouble in the past, and I've had my share of problems. I'm terrible with money," Liss said."
[The reporter repeatedly calls Newman by the name of Joe Herman]
"The news of Liss' financial problems surprised Herman, but after conversations with her, Herman said he remains confident she has assembled a financially sound business plan to launch the franchise. "
"We're comfortable with Mary and very supportive of her. She has a group of very high quality financial partners," Herman said. "She has very sound and very stable financial backing."
"Liss has filed for either Chapter 7 or 13 bankruptcy three times since 1991."
"The outstanding warrant stems from her failure to appear for a hearing after she was charged with writing bad checks in what Nardy said was a check-writing scheme in which she created fictitious accounts involving "thousands of dollars" in 1997. "
Unbelievable..... stay tuned
