When Cincinnati Marshals receiver Michael Larkin returns kicks, he doesn’t just settle for the endzone. He wants the record book.

Larkin achieved both the endzone and the record book with a 50-yard kickoff return late in Sunday’s game, sealing the Marshals 64-41 victory over the Greensboro Revolution.

The 50-yard return marked Larkin’s eighth kickoff return for a touchdown this season, breaking the previous National Indoor Football League record of seven, set by Fayetteville’s Walter Ford this season. He will have a chance to distance himself further from Ford on Saturday when the Marshals travel to Greensboro, NC to take on the Revolution. With Fayetteville’s regular season schedule completed, Ford will have to wait until the playoffs begin to try to catch Larkin.

“It feels great,” said Larkin. “The whole special teams did a great job to get me into that endzone. We got the win and that’s what’s important. Especially this late in the season as we battle for playoff seeds.”

Entering the 2006 season, the NIFL record for kickoff returns for a touchdown was six set by Bismark’s A.J. Street in 2002 and Corpus Christi’s Eddie Miller in 2005.

Larkin’s eight returns for touchdowns, paired with one by receiver Billy Back against Dayton, moved the Marshals into a tie with the 2003 Lexington Horsemen for the NIFL’s record for team kickoff returns for a touchdown in a single season.

Cincinnati closes the regular season Saturday night in Greensboro, NC against the Revolution. A win will clinch the Atlantic Conference’s fourth seed in the NIFL playoffs for the Marshals.

Went a bit deeper on this and found that TD's scored from returns were against G'boro, Osceola, TN, and WPB, stats are missing from Ark, Big Sky, and a second TN game. All were away games I think and I also think you won them. Could have gotten the other 4 there but who knows for sure as the web which we all have access too on here does not reflect that claim. Either way, I am sure the league will not give any money or trophy out because of it so it really does not matter except for bragging rights. My bet is still on Walter Ford from the Guard as his 6 not 7 TD's are documented.
