LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that the Adirondack Frostbite and Danbury Trashers have suspended operations. The teams will not compete during the 2006-07 season.

“Both organizations made a business decision to not participate in the league for the upcoming season,” stated Richard Brosal, UHL President/CEO. “The Frostbite were not able to secure a lease with the Glens Falls Civic Center. Without their closest geographical rival in the league, the Trashers made a financial decision to suspend their operations.”

A draft will be conducted later this week to disperse the players from the 2005-06 final rosters of both clubs.

“Celebrating 15 years of exciting hockey action.”

I was think the same thing. Who cares about another UHL team folding in the SPHL. Maybe they were thinking that they too could join the SPHL some day

This might be more relavant than first realized. Don't be surprised if failed UHL teams reappear in the SPHL in the upcoming years. The financial framework of the SPHL is much more workable for smaller markets than is that of the UHL.

Keep in mind that a team can't jump from the UHL to the SPHL without paying a hefty sum to the league, HOWEVER if the organization disappears for a year, they can reappear elsewhere without penalty. The main barrier is travel distance. The SPHL isn't going expand its footprint to cover much more area than it already does in order to keep travel costs down. That will limit crossover from the U to the SPHL.
