I was looking at CBA rosters from last year and I notcied that Rochester had
some good veteran talent on their team Coley, Sims and Carrawell. How well do you all think Rochester would have fared in the D-League or in the CBA, and do any of you believe there was a huge drop in talent between the Arkansas team that won in 05 and the Rochester team that won in 06.

I think that Rochester was set up to win the title, just as Arkansas was set up to win the title. The refs are paid in cash before the game. They protest at half-time if they are not paid (I saw a near brawl between an owner and ref). So if an owner slips an extra hundred or so, what do you think will happen?

You do not think that talent had anything to do with those teams winning, they both featured a lot of D.1 major conference talent, unlike the rest of the league that features mostly D 2 and 3 talent. (Indiana also had a lot of D.1 guys).

Do you think most people around the league feel as you do that, the fix is in?
Do you believe that teams that draw the most fans in the ABA are treated better than the also ran teams?

Yes they do. The fix is in. I have been around the league since 2000. The talent has not gotten better. I was at the championship game and So Cal was suppose to win that game. San Jose also outplayed them (Rochester). Rochester does have some players but if they did not win and advance to the finals no one would have gone to the game. It was set up for them to advance and win.

..just my opinion, at least with the roster they had at the end of the season. I do think, though, that the top few squads in the ABA could be competitive in the CBA or D-League.

The rest, for all practical purposes, are pick-up teams.

I think Rochester, Indiana, So.Cal and San Jose were as good or better than the Mayhem were last year but they were not on the level of the rest of the league and would have had a hard time playing 400% ball, I think the class of the ABA will most likely be Vermont from here on because of their affiliation with SI. Some players may take a chance on playing for this team even though they play in such a bad league. Within a year or two they should be the Notre Dame of the ABA with Rochester playing the role of USC the rest of the ABA will most likely continue to be second tier teams in the MW, NE, Canada, Mexico and Texas.

Coppenrath said he was impressed with the play.

"These guys are talented players. They're going to be playing for the ABA, or some of them will, or hopefully most of them will. It's a higher level than just playing pick-up or men's league around here. It's a good way to see some athletes, some great shooters and just kind of a little more tune-up before I go down and start going against NBA guys."

It's a higher level than just playing a pick up game, that does not sound like much of an endorsement to me.
