Having grown up in the metropolitamn Washington area I can speak from experience....that's a Redskins town. Only recently has the Univ. of Maryland drawn anything for football and while shheer numbers are certainly there....Cutting a deal with a broadcast outlet will be EXPENSIVE in Prince George County....Getting ultra minor league coverage from the POST will be minimal at best. That's the whole dilemma for football at this level. You've got to have some market, but it's got to be JUST RIGHT....like the three bears....To big and your marketing is out of sight and if you don't market well, you're not going to draw....
One salvation is that that size market they ought to be able to sell dahserboards and other sponsorships which are better able to provide financial success than even filling the stands in most small arenas.

If memory serves me correct I believe the Muskegon Thunder were the first expansion team for the GLIFL. Then came the Tide. Three more teams have joined since. Yet the Tide has the fewest posts on the GLIFL message board. Not a lot of interest there. I'm from MD and used to spend quite a bit of time in the Bay area. I think this is going to be a one year team. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see these guys getting the support they will need to survive.

I didnt realize that our success was going to be based on the number of message boards posting about the team. So, I figured I would post a response to some of the comments...

First, getting the Post to cover us would not end our chances. There are several other news outlets that have already covered the Tide and continue to do so.

Second, as you can tell from the press release yesterday we have brought some big name coaches on board and will continue to recruit the top players in the region. As mentioned we are in Redskin country...the Redskins are not playing in March and if we get a smiggin of the 93,000 fans that attend each home game we will be doing just fine.

We will be releasing our season ticket information in the next couple of days so if you guys would be interested in seeing our product up close..let me know

....THE TIDE IS RISING 07....

The Eastern Maryland mindset dictates that if it is not top of the line it sucks. No indoor team is top of the line. So most of the folks around you will think you suck. Most NFL fans don't like football. They love the big name top players in the NFL. They love thinking about making NFL money. The sport is secondary to them. They have no use for watching football just for the sake of watching football. That's the long version of I've lived in Maryland most of my life. That's the long version of "I'm from MD and used to spend quite a bit of time in the Bay area. I think this is going to be a one year team." I just happen to think that maybe the lack interest shown on the boards reflects that. Again as I said before I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see all teams join a great league, have great success, and make their fans proud.
Maryland is ultra lib heaven. People gather to protest the shooting of bears that have entered peoples homes. I hope you draw better than those protests do.

I am not from MD so I can't say either way how this team will do, but I have a few thoughs...

First, not all fans use a message board and Second, when I watch the NFL it is because I am a fan of the game. I am not hoping to be surprised with millions of dollars in my checking account one day. I think a football fan is a football fan and it is up to team owners to make sure the teams are successful in marketing their team.

Hello Board,

Yes I feel that this is what the area needs. There is so much talent in the area as well. It's a shame that there are people that out there that don't have confidence in having a team other than the skins in the tri state. I personally think that this is a addicting game to watch. I've played Area football for three years now and I love it. I plan on continuing to play as long as the good lord lets me. I also will be attending the workout praying that I make the team so that I can display the love of the game as well as bring true DC talent to the table. Plus like the TideGM said, the season starts once the NFL is done. This also gives Fans a chance to watch football all year around. If I'm not mistaken fan in this area are the most dedicated if the teams winning or losing. Lastly I've been a Redskin for years, but if you ask me how many game have I been too? I know I could count them on my fingers. My point is, this gives Fans a chance to watch a football game up close for a reasonable price. I tell you what, try it out and see for you self. GO TIDE GO.

I grew up in the Washington area, northern Virginia to be specific. I think one thing that AK said bears repeating. 'sheer numbers' may be the key, but the team still has to get the word out. The Post won't help, WPGC won't help. I hope they do well, and suspect from the tone of AK's letter that he thinks there's a chance. Good luck Tide, but you've got a lot of work in front of you. Make the games as much of a total entertainment package. Suggest you get tips from Odessa !

If anything I b1tch about how much money they make. That's a pretty bold assumption about fans. I love football not the players. That would be borderline gay.

Borderline gay. That's funny. Reality bares the fruits of the truth I have spoken. Anyone out there try this one. Go to any NFL fan you know. Notice I said NFL fan. Not a football fan. Go to your NFL fan buddy. Offer him/her free tickets to an indoor game. I bet over 90% will not go to the game. All the ticket vouchers I've given away and tried to give away to NFL fans and I've had one taker. And I ended up driving that guy to the game.
I'm talking about vouchers that are good for every home game during an entire season and one guy went to one game. I know I've offered these to more than 25 people. If you want to disagree that is fine. Just back up your statement with more than an opinion. Hit me with some examples that dispute what I've seen and lived through.
