Once again, leave it to "Unca Joe" Newman to put his spin on the CBA teams moving to the D-League.

ASK THE CEO - CBA/NBDL

14-Apr-2006
Question from Albert: "What do you think about CBA teams going to play in the NBA d-league?"

Answer: Albert (and others). You cannot imagine how many people are asking this question or one like it. What the CBA does is up to the CBA and NBA/NBDL. I believe the CBA had no other alternative because several of its teams were discontinuing play. All I am asking is for the NBA/NBDL to leave the ABA alone.

Okay, kids, let's dissect this.

You cannot imagine how many people are asking this question or one like it.

I'm sure they also would like to know how the ABA has come up with 60+ teams and expecting them to all play a 36-game schedule.

What the CBA does is up to the CBA and NBA/NBDL. I believe the CBA had no other alternative because several of its teams were discontinuing play.

Wrong again, Unca Joe. Of the 5 teams left in the CBA, Rockford may have acquired new investors and could return next year; Albany and Yakama are solid; Gary is going to use its momentum of reaching the CBA finals to increase their fan base, and Michigan is actually advertising for season tickets for 2006-07 on their website. This isn't the ABA where several teams discontinue play every week.

All I am asking is for the NBA/NBDL to leave the ABA alone.

Oooohhhh... from "We're better than the D-League, they won't honor our playing against them" to "oh, big mighty D-League, don't take our most successful (and only profitable) franchises."

BTW, has anybody noticed that the ABAbasketball Yahoo group has disappeared for some unknown reason? Did Unca Joe make it go away or something?
