stinks that we get tues/wed here in florida...dont know why they did not do fri/sat and fri/sat and then the next tues if needed back in knoxville...

guess from the winter meeting post on 02/02/06 on thesphl.com they were way off when they said...
The Board set the target date of the first playoff game for Tuesday, March 21st and the completion the SPHL Championship no later than Sunday, April 9th. even if there is a sweep the third game would be on the 11th.

This was on the Ice Bears website today...

KJ Voorhees is out for the Championship playoff series with a severe sprain of his left AC joint. The injury happened at Friday night's games against the Pee Dee Cyclones.

KJ will not need surgery for his injury, however, he is looking at 4-6 weeks of rehab therapy.

I wish him luck in his recovery. They interviewed him on the knoxville broadcast on saturday night.

This could end up being a factor in the 5 game series as he was 2nd in regular season points on his team and 4th in the SPHL at 78 with 34 goals and 44 assist. He was not doing bad in the 3 playoff games he played in either at 3 points with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Also another factor is if goalie Ronayne gets injured is that the other goalie Ryan Person has left the team. The new back up is Rodney Tocco who I show on Hockeydatabase as having played only 1 game with Michigan State University in 2003-2004 season.

With these things that happened lately to Knoxville...If they don't score alot of Goals...the Seals will win the series in 4 games...Person was stupid to leave the team...They had a Championship capable team...I really think the Seals win this Finals...and I'm not being Biased.

Not the time to have players not showing anymore. I know it hurt the Fireantz when Rilder pulled his little trick on us at the end of the season. Go Seals

I checked the Silver Spurs website and there is an indoor football game on saturday the 15th so that would not have been available. Monday to Friday all appears to be open for the week. Im sure with the SPHL having the original date of the 9th to be the last day of the playoffs and the travel time between the two city the dates all came into play. I believe these are the two furthest cities away in the SPHL so they probably did not want to do home back to back at all and leave several days of travel between the two locations.

Greetings everyone.
I was pleased to be in Knoxville for game one last night as a guest of one of the IceBears management. In all honesty, Knoxville looks tough to beat. I realize that was only game one, but Knoxville for the most part dominated the game, took away the seals puck control passing game and did little to stop the line of thought that Florida can't win in Knoxville (they haven't won there this year)

There were a lot of penalties for a finals game, however I didn't see any that were unwarranted, with the possible exception of the game misconduct to Katzberg that I believe was issued when he sprayed water on the SHPL scoring table while trying to douse some Ice Bears fans. (I don't know that for sure, but that is what it looked like)

Although the half-ice goal by Miller may have "sealed the deal" on the scoreboard (making it 4-0) the game was pretty much over by then anyway. Fla couldn't get its offense going in the zone, and in fact the seals were having issues gaining puck control in the zone at all. Knoxville's defense played a very solid game for 2 1/2 periods. When things started to get chippy, especially in the third period knoxville seemed content to back off to make sure no injuries were sustained as they pretty much slowed the game down in the third and didn't skate with the urgency they showed in periods 1 and 2.

Let's not write florida out of the picture yet. There were times in the third period when they controled play and got some pucks past Knoxville's goalie. They can build on that.

What do I expect in game 2? First of all I expect fewer penalties. There were six power play goals last night. Florida especially must be cautious as they gave up 4 power play goals last night, and yet managed to RAISE thier penaty kill % for the playoffs. How scary is that? (I was told that their PK% on the road in the playoffs was UNDER 50%????)

I also expect a lower scoring game. Florida needs to shore up it's D for game two as Denike, in spite of giving up 6, made some good saves and stopped all of the odd man rushes and breakaways (including ones by Bermingham and Swider) keeping the game within reach for a while.

The seals desperately need the first goal. Coming from behind in Knoxville is a remote possibility at best. In fact, Florida needs two of the first three goals. Preferably the first two.

Knoxville must continue to play Knoxville hockey. Bottle up the Seals at the blueline, counterattack with speed and be willing to absorb some abuse in exchange for power play chances.

I have extended my stay in Knoxville to catch tonight's game. It should be fun. My prediction... Knoxville 3 Florida 2.

There should be places on the web to catch the game. Enjoy

Well backs against the wall now...have to win 3 in a row...

does anyone know more information on the katzberg situation. i saw he was out on saturday and apparently for a suspension that will last the rest of the season...i guess it was for the water incident.

i also heard that the commissioner of the league had made a statement that the original penalty, slashing at 15:03 in the 3rd, should have never been called and that he should not have been in the box at all.

does anyone know what the official statement was?

also does anyone have info on Voorhees? I saw he was on the gamesheet and had 2 shots. I thought he was done for the season from injury?!?!

great game last night playoff hockey at its best...it was good seeing jamie ronayne outplayed goalie of the year award winner terry denike...final score 2-1...as far as katzberg i think it was a one game suspension for squirting water while in the box....as far as voorhees dont know how he was on the scorers sheet because he was behind the bench in a suit and tie....he is out for the season....game 3 tuesday in fl...go ice bears

I checked again and #24 K.Voorhees was on the pointstreak gamesheet with 2 shots...interesting... did they add another #24 for the series? i have been disappointed with pointstreak and the sphl website for the playoff. both seem to not be posting transactions anymore with suspensions / ir / etc during the playoffs. no katzberg suspension, no voorhees injury, etc.

this is one area i would like to the sphl add on there pages is about suspensions and what they were for and time of suspension. some type of commissioners press releases or something. i also understand the commissioner ruled katzberg should have never got him the penalty that sent him to the box in game one that led to water incident. it would be nice to see a press release on sphl about the commissioners feelings etc although im sure he does not want to press release a statement that the official was wrong. the nfl did it with the superbowl though.

You are correct, sir! My heart is aching right now. The SPHL finals were edged out because of
1) a 4-H Orchid Sale on Friday night
2) NIFL Osceola Football game on Saturday night
3) Pajama Jam on Saturday night

nope no othe 24 out there..must be a pointstreak issue....yes the katzberg call i believe the ref missed the call and it cost katzberg because he lost his cool in the box and was squrting water at the fans and into the scorers table area...it was a different ref last night ...he called a fairly decent game...

They played a good game last night but if they are expecting to beat the seals in their own territory they had better play better then they did in the first two periods last night, overall it was a good game with some bogus calls from the refs and way to go jaime for 40 saves.......GO ICE BEARS!!!!!!

SEALS STAY ALIVE WITH KELLER’S THIRD PERIOD GOAL
Denike Stands Tall In The Win

[KISSIMMEE, Fla.]–The Florida Seals returned home facing elimination and with the win Tuesday night will do it again tomorrow night. Justin Keller’s third period, power play goal gave the Seals a 3-1 victory, their first in the President’s Cup Finals.

The Seals came out on fire and showed Knoxville they planned to hold off the popping of the champagne. David Deeves threw the puck into the net just 1:23 into the contest as he was being dragged down to the ice. The Seals continued to play a very physical style and send messages to the Ice Bears players.

Knoxville tied the game up when Marcus Forsberg found a rebound goal at the 14:56 mark. It would be the only time Terry Denike would be beaten.

The second period opened up with the Seals shorthanded for nearly four minutes. Denike got unruly near the end of the second period and showed Mike Craigen he was tired of his antics. The Seals killed off the entire Ice Bears’ power play, including a 1:23 stretch on a two-man advantage.

As the momentum shifted after the Seals got out of the box, the goalies started to put on a show. Denike made 10 of his 34 saves in the second period while across the way James Ronayne made 15 second period saves, including one with his behind.

After Keller scored the game-winning goal the Seals still had two more minutes of power play time left on the Liam McCarthy spearing call. Knoxville stole the puck in the neutral zone and created a two-on-one shorthanded chance. Craigen found some room alone and thought he was going to tie the game up. But at the 10:36 mark Denike stretched his left pad out to the post and made the save of the Seals’ season.

Craig Miller added an empty net goal as time expired to cushion the Seals win. Before the game Knoxville fans were already asking where the celebration would be and what time they would be going to Disney World on Wednesday. Instead, the fans will be forced to return to the Silver Spurs Arena, as the Seals will look to force a game five back in Knoxville Saturday night.

The President’s Cup continues Wednesday night with Game Four from the Silver Spurs at 7:35 pm. Fans who can’t make the game are invited to tune into Talk Radio 1190 WAMT, www.wamt1190.com or watch the game for a fee at www.livesportsnetwork.com/sphl.

To reserve your playoff tickets with the Seals, call the office at (407) 343-PUCK or go to the Seals website at www.floridaseals.com. All home games can be seen live at www.livesportsnetwork.com/sphl.

of course i liked the outcome as I am a seals fan... the game was pretty ugly in that i have never seen so many times in one game where goalies were getting hit and hitting others. it was going both ways on both teams...both denike and roynayne were being hit hard and were giving hits back. the refs seemed to try and take control by calling a lot of penalties off setting in the first period. the second period was pretty clean with the seals having to start by killing about 1:30 short two men and another 2:30 short one man. this seemed to be a turning point by killing off this short handed time.

the big shift was obviously when the spearing call was made on mccarthy and it resulting in the game winning power play goal by keller.

akright from knoxville ended up being the only penalty in the third which were only misconducts and did not end up in a power play. he seemed to be yelling at the officials about a no call. the no call was made (or not made) in front of me and was a hooking call on the seals that i think the ref did miss. it was pretty obvious and was right in front of the ref.

no brooms were seen at the silver spurs...and should be another physical game tomorrow...looking forward to it.

Well tough game last night, thought the seals were going to come and and tie it up and go back to Knoxville...did not happen.

Cograts to Knoxville on a good season and I am really proud of how the Seals did...3rd place regular season and 2nd in playoffs...all this from a team that on the SPHL website was voted only 9.02 % to win the championship in the poll. columbus, fayetteville, knoxville and even peedee had more votes. I believe they gave us, the fans, the most playoff home games with 5 and that is always a good thing!

I hate to jump on the refs as an excuse but here were some things from last night... the third goal by knoxville at the end of the third period... I could not see completely because it was at the opposite end that I was at, but Swider ran into Denike, the light never came on, and the ref never indicated it was a goal. He just went to talk to the goal judge then went to the scorers table and it was put on the board, even after that he never indicated goal by pointing to center ice.

the other frustraiting thing of the night was how many times ronayne and crew were able to knock the goal off the moorings when the puck was free in front of the goal. I think the total count was knoxville 6 and florida 0. There was one time right in front of me that Miller (knoxville) through both hand on the top and pushed it off when everyone was in front of the net.

just some observations and thoughts...time to count down to october...
