I am a fan of Arena football that has followed the game as best I could since its inception. In the last five years I have become a much bigger fan and as an outdoor football coach I love the Arena game because of its differences and I love X's and O's. It has been interesting for the past year or so as I live in Washington state and have season tickets to the Everett Hawks who were NIFL last year and are Af2 this year. I also, this year, am sharing Utah Blaze season tickets with my brothers who live in Utah. I hadn't even realized it or thought about it much, but I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer for. In the NIFL the QB was in shotgun about half the time. In the Arena league the QB is never in shotgun. Is that a league rule? I can't find the actual rule book for the AFL and I am wondering if any of you can help me with this. Thanks in advance!

Ricky Foggie used to work out of the shot-gun all the time. Most Arena coaches just don't use it because of the speed of the nose guards. I think it worked fine though.

Well, that seems to be a valid point with the speed of the DL being a factor. However, I would think if you practiced it enough with your center they could do it. I also feel like you could probably open up the running game a bit more from shotgun using an arena version of the Shotgun veer we see quite a bit in college these days.

Since I get to see Rickey Foggie as Coach Foggie now, perhaps he will use it some this year in Everett. He definitely ran with his QB quite a bit in game one, but he has the QB to do it too.
