With the Pirates being sold and the demise of OPE (WooHoo!), I have this question. Who owns the rights to the old IFL name, team names, logos ect.? Is it the new Pirates ownership, the new Orlando ownership, one of the Buschys who were in charge of OPE when they purchased the IFL from Mr. Eckland, or someone else? Thanks!

I believe the rule is that the AF2 owns all rights to AF2 team names.

But I thought OPE owned the rights too all the names of the old IFL? Yes, AF2 was under control of OPE (at least I thought the league office was) but Linemen brings up a good point. If OPE is history, who actually owns all the assets of the IFL? Is it the new owners that run the AF2? Was their any one person that owned the rights too the IFL stuff? It sounds like OPE was an organization and that the organization itself owned the rights too the IFL, not an individual.

Heck, for all we know, no one might own the rights too the IFL anymore.

I think that since OPE bought the IFL they owned the rights to all the teams execpt the old Lincoln francise. Lincoln and Peoria were brought in as expansion teams so the AF2 probabbly owns the rights to those two teams. I'm wondering about the rest. Another possibility could be that group that bought the Predators owns the IFL properties since they bought all the Predators' assests.

Just thought that I would throw this out for discussion. Thanks for the replys!

This is one thing I think I like the NIFL more then the AFL/AF2. At least in the NIFL the owners have full rights too their Team Names and logos. So if a team has too move into another Indoor League or if the league goes under, they can still move the team name and logos somewhere else without a leagues or other outsiders approval.
