Help. We have a new Indoor Football team in Billings, Montana...The Outlaws... and my daughter is a cheerleader...Went to our first game Friday nite...Well, it ain't the SEC, but it'll do, 'til September rolls around.....
My question: What's the difference in Arena Football and Indoor Football?

There are some differences in the rules between indoor leagues, but the biggest difference between indoor football and "arena" football, is the Patented net system. If you've seen the AFL on NBC, you've seen the big net in the endzone. Only the AFL and AF2 can use them.

Also, not trying to bring down indoor football in anyway, cause I prefer it to Arena, but indoor football is more of a minor league to Arena Football. Most of the time, indoor football plays in smaller markets and venues as well.

The Arena Fooball League is unquestionably at a higher level than the other indoor leagues. They pay real salaries, and play in large NFL markets.
Arena Football 2, is the minor league of the AFL. In general, they are on par with the other indoor leagues. They play in similar markets, and have a similar salary structure ($200-300 per game).
Entire threads are devoted to "is AF2 better than ___ indoor league", so lets not go there again. In the AF2 and other indoor leagues, rosters depend on more "local" players, the salary structures are similar, they play in smaller markets. They have more in common than not, except for the nets.
