Attention basketball players, referees, coaches, and fans in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina:

Justice Sports and UpFront Management Sports Agency are looking to start the 4 Man Basketball Association (or "4MBA") for a test season this summer at the W.C. Reid Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

4 Man Basketball is full-court, high energy basketball. By simply removing one player off each side, we expect "showtime" basketball to come back with a vengenance. If you love to dunk, this league will be for you.

There are other exciting rule changes, such as power plays for excessive fouls, reducing time killing foul shots by making players hit one shot for all the points (until the last minute of regulation and overtime), first to 7 overtimes, etc. Other rule changes on our website.

The Reid Center is coordinating basketball activities in an effort to help promote a multimillion dollar renovation. We are currently trying to secure the facility and wanted to alert basketball players that this league may be starting so they can be ready.

In the event we play, we will play Friday and Saturday nights through June and July (except the weekend before Independence Day).

Rob Ryder, who coordinated the basketball scenes in movies like "Blue Chips" and "White Men Can't Jump," ran several practice games and the scoring went into the 120-130s. He attempted a national summer pro league, but the costs were too extensive.

We are starting with a great game idea and working from the grassroots up. We are not associated with Mr. Ryder, but we are more than happy to give him credit for his inspiration.

This game WILL catch fire and be to basketball what arena football is to football. And the game is far cooler to watch and less expensive to organize than arena football.

Whether we play or not this summer, we expect to play at a larger venue at Asheville Middle School (or a similar venue) in summer 2007, with the full 48 minute games next year. We are setting up this test season to work through the rules and grow this league from the ground-up. We will not overexpand, we will not overextend our resources, we will not deal with shady businessmen.

UpFront Sports (former Globetrotter Bennie Lake, Western Carolina University legend Henry Logan, and respected trainer Sherman Williams) are helping me in this effort because we all support doing sports the right way, and they have a proven track record of providing positive outlets to teenagers and young adults, extending over decades.

Please check out www.4manbasketball.com or www.4mba.net for more information. If you are interested in participating let us know ASAP so we can get you on a team. In the event you are interested in sponsorship, call or e-mail me directly.

LET EVERYONE KNOW.

Fast Break Basketball Is BACK!

Thank you.

I'll have to check with the board on that one.

Saying "eh" on the court is an automatic technical foul.

It isn't really rocket science. Well, ok it is to me.

My concept is to have franchises for house leagues (every team plays in the same venue) in different cities in the summer on Friday nights, and the "Pro" league on Saturday nights. The house league idea keeps costs down. So any city like Fayetteville could have a league. Heck, even my wife's hometown of Ahoskie (N.E. N.C.) could have a league. I just want to get my feet wet.

I'm the first to say if the league starts off it's a "glorified intramural league."

One local gym is playing a 4 on 4 league but has a smaller court, and not the other rule changes. The rule changes should make it even more fun. If it fails, I won't lose too much, so it's worth the risk.

Thanks for checking it out.

So, will Knoxville be the "co-champions" of the SPHL again (inside joke)? :P

NO CO-CHAMPS FOR KNOXVILLE. FIREANTZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ all the way baby!!!! This 4 man league sounds a lot like street ball but just played indoors. I am not sure if it would ever catch on and be able to last. Heck it doesn't even look like Fayetteville will be able to keep the NBDL team they have.

Looks doubtful for this summer anyway. The gym in question only gave me dates that moved up my schedule too much. Not quite enough lead time for me to get everything right. It's my fault for not securing the dates much sooner.

I don't rush products or blame everyone but me. I'll just say I failed this time and try for later this year or summer 2007.

Thanks anyway.
