Yeah I wrote the front office last week looking for info on the team and have yet to hear anything back. Kinda shady if you ask me. Hard to sell the team to people when you have no new info about the team other than the schedule

Yeah ...the website isnt being updated much either....do you know if single game tickets are on sell yet?...or are they only selling season tickets right now?

I made a call to the front office about tickets and they were more morried about moving than seeling tickets at that time. I am not sure if singel tickets are on sell or not.

Looks like we will finally take the field this week and get a chance to see what kinda team we have this year. Hopefully the team will get off to a better start this year and not have to play out of a big hole just to make the playoffs

Hey Guard fans, I'm back after a year off it seems. I hope the team does well too. The deal with baseball puts us having a few games away at first but the season in F'ville will be here soon. Glad to see 1260 AM has a live web feed, hope they can get some of the away games. Anyhow, glad to see some of you back on here. Later Drew.

I have heard from a member or two of the team and they are on the way today to Alabama. The Roster from what I heard is made up of a lot of the same players from last year, I wish the front office would post it on the web though. Here's a run down of who I heard was new to the team. Chris "Rocket" Roncketti (Methodist) at QB, Jamal Leggette (Methodist) at DE, Billy Delapp (Methodist) at OL. There are some more but I don't have names. Shawn is also back at QB and Perry is the RB again. I think from what I have heard the team should do well if they get a few kinks worked out, stay injury free and develop team integrity early. I am ready for it to start and I hope to see you guys at each home game.

There’s only one thing that will make the 2006 National Indoor Football League season a success for the Fayetteville Guard.
“We’ve all said if we don’t win the championship we’ll be disappointed this year,’’ said Shawn Withy-Allen, who will start at quarterback tonight when the Guard kicks off its 14-game regular-season against the Montgomery Maulers in Montgomery, Ala.
The Guard staged a dramatic turnaround a year ago to come within two wins of playing for the NIFL title. An 0-5 start that was followed by the resignation of head coach Terry Smith paved the way for Mike Siani to take over the team.
Under Siani’s direction, Fayetteville rallied to finish 7-7 and qualify for the playoffs. The Guard advanced to the Atlantic Conference semifinals before being eliminated 70-69 by the Cincinnati Marshals.
The Marshals prevailed only after a two-point conversion pass by the Guard with no time remaining failed. A pass interference flag was thrown on the conversion attempt, but it was waved off by officials who determined the pass was uncatchable.
“We were so close last year we tasted it,’’ Withy-Allen said. “I think that’s why so many guys came back.’’
Fifteen players who endured last year’s disappointment make up the bulk of a 27-man roster that will start 2006 with the Guard.
“This team is pretty stacked,’’ said former NFL running back Wilmont Perry. Perry, who played with the New Orleans Saints in 1998-99, joined the Guard late last season for its playoff run. He had previously played arena ball in Fayetteville with the Cape Fear Wildcats of arenafootball2.
Perry will join Withy-Allen as starters in the Fayetteville backfield.
Withy-Allen, who played collegiately at Hawaii, had additional incentive for helping the Guard to a successful season. He began 2005 as the team’s starting quarterback, but suffered a broken right arm in the sixth game and missed the rest of the season. Withy-Allen threw for 1,000 yards and 19 touchdowns before the injury.
“My arm feels stronger than it was last year, thanks to my rehab,’’ said Withy-Allen, who will be backed up by former South View High School and Methodist College quarterback Chris Roncketti.
Other key elements returning to an offense that ranked ninth in scoring with 48.6 points a game include offensive linemen Gary Futch and Jonanthan Byrd and receivers Jammie Deese and Mitch Galloway.
Deese, an ex-Wake Forest receiver, caught 34 passes for 400 yards and six touchdowns last season. Galloway, who played at East Carolina, had 25 receptions for 307 yards and four touchdowns last season.
The Guard should again field one of the NIFL’s top defensive units. Seven players who were part of a defense that ranked fifth in the league in scoring defense (38.9) have returned, including defensive linemen Ken Brown and Quincy Malloy, linebackers Al Wilson and George Miller, and defensive backs Walter Ford, Selwyn Scott, Jesse Parker, DeRon Donald and DeLeon Raynor.
Ford, a former Army soldier, led Fayetteville in tackles last season with 101 and also had seven interceptions.
Like the players, Siani enters the season with the quiet confidence.
“With our talent level, there’s no reason why we can’t win the championship,’’ Siani said. “I feel really comfortable with all aspects of our team. There are concerns.
“We don’t have a big, physical wide receiver who can block downfield or who can take a cornerback and push him out of the way. And we don’t have a lot of size on the defensive line. We have smaller, quicker guys there, so we’ll have to see how our pass rush develops.
“But overall we’ve got a team that should be capable of competing for the championship.’’
The Guard won’t play a home game at the Crown Coliseum until April 22 against Osceola.
Following Saturday’s opener at Montgomery, Fayetteville will travel to Osceola, Fla., for a game April 1, to Miami on April 9 and to Greensboro to play the expansion Revolution on April 14.
Siani believes a strong start is important for the Guard after last season.
“Obviously, your first goal is to get to the playoffs,’’ Siani said. “We don’t want to have to struggle to do that at the end like we did last year. With the veterans we have on this team, there’s no reason why we can’t get off to a 4-0 or 3-1 start. I think that’s important for us to do.’’

I don't visit OSC often, so I just found this board. But I'm here now. Glad to see the boys get the season started off on a positive note, but as you all have said, there should be more information available to the public about them. They shouldn't be waiting until the "home" season before marketing the team. The website absolutely sucks!! I have emailed Bobby Jackson twice in the past few days asking about a roster and when it would be available--just want to know who I'm cheering for. I got no response. At least the article in Saturday's paper gave a general list of who we have. Glad to see a lot of returning players.
Anyone else planning to make the trip to Greensboro on April 14th to get an early look at the team? I know its a Friday night, and its Easter weekend, but I have worked it out so I can go. I just hope theres a few more to back me up when I stand up and cheer for my team.
If not in G'boro, then I hope to meet you all on the 22nd at the first home game (although I probalby already know some of you, either from last year, or from the Antz games.)
Til then, GO GUARD and GO ANTZ-- Lets keep the season alive for a couple more weeks!!!!!

Looks like there is finally some changes with the team site. They have taken all the old info down and put up the little story about the win. Come on front office lets make the site a little better. I am sure there are tons of people that would be willing to keep the site up a heck of a lot better

Thanks for the welcome as well as the info about the website. Checked it out and they actually have the roster listed, too. I know its hard to try to get people going with the guys playing on the road for so many games here at the beginning, but they could get the word out there and build the excitement that much more. Really build the team up. Hopefully they can win all 4 of these road games and use that to REALLY push for that first home game. We need a HUGE crowd to welcome the team to the Crown for that home opener.

Guys, made the trip to Montgomery, and let me say, Garrett Stadium is a terrible place to see a game. Don't get me wrong the people in the "Heart of Dixie", I like that state slogan than the new "Stars Fell on Alabama", are really great. There were about 20 or so fans for F'ville there, but we were the only one's from NC. Several of the players had family there and they supported the Guard better than even some of our own. Anyhow, it sure was a sweet victory and we can't wait to see the next game.

#1 Fan, I have not heard about any of the game tickets yet. Also, I would hope the website would get better soon. Have you seen anything in F'ville as far as promotion of the team yet? I live near the coast so we get everything second hand from F'ville online newspaper. It takes me about 2.5 hours just to make a home game. Anyhow, I hope that WFAY will start to braodcast away games. I hope to make games in Charleston, Greensboro, and of course all in F'ville.

Well the website has been updated and they are starting to get it together. I have seen a few things around town about the team but I think around here you have to kill people with info to get them to come out to things. I never understood this place and the teams in this town. Oh well I am just happy to be at a place where we have the teams that we do have and I support them whenever I am not playing in the big sandbox

Doesn't look like the league updates their site in a very timely manner, so I don't know if you will be able to get scoring updates, but thats where I would try first, followed by the home team's site. You never know. Or we could always do like we used to do before the Antz got connected with Pointstreak--someone at the games calls someone at home and post it on here. Not very efficient sometimes, but updates are updates.
Drew, I will be in G'boro. I will be wearing my jersey that I bought last year, the desert camo one they auctioned off--Galloway, #80. Hope to see you there. Can't wait for the home season to start!!!

One or two other things before I get off of here, maybe we can all hook up and find seats close at the away games. We were spread out down in Montgomery which worked too as they heard us from different areas. The visiting team usually is given I think some what I call, Will Call tickets and you guys are right, way in the corner, or other out of the way places. Down in Rome last year we were in the end zone, really cheap and cheesy. In Montgomery the tickets were up behind the team but a nosebleed could occur from where we should have sit. Note I said "Where we should have sit." Better go. Later and GO GUARD!!!!!

Great win last night boys!!! I bet that was an exciting one to watch, with the score being that close. Now lets focus on Florida and then I can help cheer them on for the next one in Greensboro.
I have a question. Someone please help me. WHY do we not have a kicker? We never attempted a PAT, it was always a conversion, some good, some not so good. But why not a kick? I checked the roster on the Guard site and there is not even a kicker listed. Anyone know why?

I can see the Guard going 4-0, but let's worry about Florida
Florida doesn't look very good, and Greensboro's been awful, so I think 4-0 is a pretty good possibility. I hope to be at the Greensboro game in a couple of weeks, before we come home and play our first game in the Crown this season. I'm definitely excited. :)

The coaches said they don't want a kicker. They said that if they try the 2 point conversion every time and make half of the conversions then the team is in the game. The coaches say Perry is the answer for this year and he is the best running back in the league. They say that Perry can make more 2 point conversions than a kicker can make extra points.

As far as the kicking goes, I think Shawn at QB can kick the extra point, but with a better the 50-50 chance on the 2 points why not go for it. Shawn has done pretty good according to his stats at kick off's. Coach must have decided to keep that extra spot for another position he deemed more inportant than a kicker. I agree that we should beat Florida, but we need to take this week by week. Can't wait for opening night in F'ville, Oceola will be seeking revenge. GO Guard 2-0 looking at 3-0.

I completely agree with you Mike. The really sad thing is that of the 3 Fayetteville teams that I follow--Antz, Guard and Swampdogs--the best site is the Swampdogs, and they are not a team of professional athletes. I guess when you don't have to pay player's salaries, it frees up a little more money to keep up other things like the website. They do not start playing until the end of May and there is more information on their site than on the Guard's site and they have been playing for 2 weeks now. The roster was not even listed for the Guard until the day of the first game. I really hope that in the next 1-2 weeks, we start to hear more about them since they will be coming home on the 22nd. I guess they thought they didn't need to promote the team since they wouldn't be here for the first 4 games.
Oh well, at least there are people like us who are actually following them on our own without the help of the team and website.
GO GUARD!!! Lets make it 3-0 tonight.

Way to go Boys!!!!! 44-41 over Florida. Don't have any information on the game yet, other than the score, but with it that close, it was probably an exciting one. Now on to Greensboro to make it 4-0.
Y'all let me know who else is going. I will be wearing my Galloway jersey. Hope to see many more Guard fans there.

Withy-Allen -- 6 TD passes -- 4 to Jay Jackson and 2 to Mitch Galloway
Wilmont Perry keyed on -- just scores one TD
Florida's Travis Wilson burned Guard deep 4 times, but Selwyn Scott made key pick that helped Fayetteville pull away.
Hard Rock Casino -- great play to watch a game, killer sound system.

Thanks, Dan, for the recap.
I had a feeling Perry wouldn't last too long. I mean, he is good and all, but the other teams have to see that and focus on keeping the ball out of his hands. I don't play the game but even I would know enough to keep him off the ball.
Don't know much about Jackson, but looks like he had a decent game. And of course, always glad to see Mitch doing well.

Can I assume Fayetteville surrounds some major military base (Army)?
Do you guys have signed Army guys on your roster that are permitted to hold two jobs at the same time -- one as an enlisted officer, and the other as a NIFL player?
Just curious.

We have 2 military bases in Fayetteville Fort Bragg and Pope AFB are both in Fayetteville and I don't know of any players that are in the military and on the team. I know our hockey team had an Air Force Co-Pilot playing on the team for a little while this past season

Guys, my group will be there on Friday night to pull for the 4-0 start. Hope to see as many of you there as possible. Greensboro looks as if they picked up a few players and one was a kicker, the last one I think they had was from Methodist, they got rid of him, or so it seems. As far as players being in the Army I am pretty sure none are on active duty. I don't think any of them having served before but I could be wrong. From what I have heard most of the guys have regular jobs and play for the love of the game, because in this league I am sure you are not going to get rich. Let me know where you guys might be sitting but I am sure you will figure out who I am. Gray haired about to retire from the Army National Guard.

We have no name...But you guys have no one running your team... Good thing you guys have a good team that people care about...Because the organization doesnt seem to put alot of effort into their end of the operation....You know if you call Osceola Football...People actually answer the phone? And the website is full of info and pictures that are updated constantly? I will be looking foward to hearing about the quality of the production in your arena... I have to say ours...Being in our first year...Has got to be right up there at the top. Because we try really hard, and care, and do things the right way...Looking foward to next weekends rematch... Should be a great team..Hopefully this time we will pull it out!

was good though to see a team that actually looked like a team...had REAL uniforms and road colors... Unlike the first two jokers that came to town to see us. We had to go kinda rescue your team though...Their bus broke down.
As for Osceola having to do buy one get one free ...Well understand this is a new team...In an area that was soured by the NIFL last year with those wonderful Kissimmee Kreatures and CSM... That Piroshki guy isnt a favorite around here...Which made it even funner to kick the crap out of his new team when they came to town. But I felt bad for the players being I knew what they were in for this year. But back to the thing about our attendance... Understand this is a MUCH LARGER area than Fayetteville...Osceola is where Disneyworld is...Near Universal and Sea World, There is NFL in Tampa, MLB in Tampa (sorta),NHL in Tampa, Mnor league hockey in the same arena, AFL in both Orlando and Tampa, NBA in Orlando, UCF, UF, Daytona Intl Speedway...and oh yeah another NIFL team down the road in Lakeland...So there is alot of competition for peoples free time, disposable income, and sports interest....If this organization stays the course and keeps the team here....They will draw well...They do everything right and the team is good...Just need the word to get out and in a few years they would draw well Im sure of it..Im sure it took time for people to identify with the Guard ...People just dont adopt teams overnight usually... I mean I have lived in Florida for 6 years and im still a 49er fan, a SF Giant Fan, and a Golden State Warrior fan...Anyhow..Sorry you all for writing stuff in your thread about a diff team..but it kinda related to your team.

I want to start out by saying THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to those who wholeheartedly support the team. We've come a long way and we know that we still have quite a bit of work to do. We know that we got off to a rocky start last year and we also know that this year isn't going as smoothly as we anticipated. That being said, the rest of this post goes out to those who like to criticize or who may have ideas or thoughts about the way the team is being run and promoted....call Bobby Jackson, the GM @ 583-0213*. He is more than willing to listen to what you have to say. The only other thing that I can say is that there were serious computer problems in the front office that may have prohibited emails from being received and/or read.....for that, we apologize. It was something that was beyond our control. Also, as I am sure most of you are aware, there was turnover in the front office and unfortunately, this is not just something that you can throw someone into and expect them to hit the ground running........this whole thing is new to alot of people and with a little time, patience and SUPPORT, I'm sure that the operation will run as smoothly and efficiently as we all anticipate.
I know that I have probably just jumped into the fire :), but just wanted you all to know that we are listening to and taking into consideration the things that you have to say.
Thanks again for your continued support and we'll see you on the 22nd at the Crown Coliseum as we continue our winning streak against Osceola!

Hope you guys get plenty of people to the game this weekend. I can't say more about getting the troops on Bragg the chance to come to a game. Last year I know the bus picked up around 20 or so SC National Guard guys and they enjoyed it from what they told me. I have sent out emails to people I know in the area that like Football. I am not in F'ville but I tell as many people about it as possible. Hope your front office is working every ave. possible we need about 5-10K fans and let those in FLA know that we support our team. Sorry to throw a wet blanket on the party here, but someone has to bring a little dose of reality here. Here's the deal, the Guard have essentially played one team with any real talent (Osceola), and probably should have lost that game. Their average starting field position was over mid-field. Do you honestly think Osceola will allow that to happen again? Rest assured, Fayetteville probably has the best running back in the league, and Walter Ford is superb, but after that....? The quarterback is average at best. Rapid City, River City, Lakeland, Osceola, Billings all possess deeper talent.
Reality check, four weeks against three bad opponents don't make a season!

To the New NIFLFAN, (Last Post)
In this league anything can happen and it's not over until that last tick of the clock is gone. From your comments you think we have not played anyone yet, but at this stage in the season to win on the road, four games is a big deal to anyone. From what I can remember from your post is that other teams have more depth and talent by their wins and losses, which are few. Look at who they have played, and where they were played at. The teams you mentioned have played at home against teams I would consider subpar too. So don't prop them up until they win close ones on the road. That can sometimes show true character and the will to win. Rapid City has played some no name teams, Oceola is bragging about a forfit over a team who does not have a place to play in as well as wins over teams we have beat, Lakeland won't play anyone until they play us so another team with non value added wins, River City might be a sleeper and I think they are a good team, so get all the facts and then make a decision. You are right by saying four wins doesn't make a season but it sure helps down the road.

True what happens on the field is the most important thing and the bottom line...But some of your fans came to our thread and cracked our team, our name or lack there of, our arena, and our fans...So I felt it was my duty to find a few chinks in your armor. Plus I cant think of really any reason besides the team to EVER go to Fayetteville. I know geography plays an imortant role, but it's almost a crying shame that these two teams are not in different divisions. Outside of the Guard, our Osceola, the Aces, Billings, and maybe Lakeland(not played a proven team yet), there seems to be very little competition. We should just call this the NIFL Indoor Bowl and crown a winner. Any thoughts?

Good point. Although it looks as though we are going to see holes in the schedules of many teams in the South. WPB is all but desimated. Wonder what will happen, or who will foot the bill for an empty arena on those nights? For their players and opponents sake, I hope they at least travel for the remainder of the year.
GTDREW
04-21-2006, 06:24 PM
I agree Outlaw1, they (WPB) should travel and make those games that other teams have scheduled. Not only that, it will build their financial base up for next year. The chances of winning on the road in this league are about 75/25 with only one in four actually making it happen most of the time. They might not have a good record in the long run but at least they have kept their word to the other teams who need those home games to pull in fans and money for their team.

Not as many points as I thought, but still, a close game as expected. What a finish. We beat Osceola 54-51 in a game that was close the whole way. With under two minutes left, Osceola was down 46-44, but was driving toward the end zone. However, we got a huge interception return for a touchdown that sent the whole place (and me, of course) going nuts, and sealed the deal. What an exciting home opener. I can't wait for May 13, when we get a shot at revenge against Cincinnati, the team that broke our hearts last July in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Thought I would start this thread again. Let's talk about what we can do to support the team on here. Figured the Guard vs. O's thread would be a dead issue. Anyhow, I have sent emails out to different people about upcoming games. It's just hard to get them to come from 2 hours away like I do. Need to see if the Business office is going to offer a military night and other specials like they did last year. By the way, the band was a good addition, wish they would let them play longer after a TD, but the announcer needs some work at home games. It's hard to start a DEFENSE chant when he's doing nothing most of the time.
Guardfan3
04-24-2006, 08:40 PM
HEHEHE. Yeah, Drew, I agree about the announcer. My biggest problem was his not knowing the difference between a TD and a 2 pt conversion. I think he announced 2-3 TDs that were actually conversions after the TD.
I think they also need to work on the time out and promo games. The pitch a pig had been announced several times that it would be during the 3rd qtr, but it didn't happen until 2 minutes left in the game, completely throwing off the momentum of the game itself. I think that should have happened at halftime, or at the very least, during the break between 3rd and 4th qtrs. They still need to tweak a few other things as well, but overall I couldn't complain. We have football--and WE WON.
As far as promoting, I am going to be going to the office some time this week to discuss a couple of things. Hopefully something will work out.

Add me to the list of people who aren't happy with the announcer. He seems too plain. Last year's guy was more exciting (i.e. FAYETTEVILLLLLLLLE GUARRRRRRRRRRRRD!!!), but this guy doesn't seem to get too excited.
Guardfan3
04-24-2006, 10:46 PM
I actually like the new guy's voice better than the one last year. The announcer last year started to get on my nerves. I just think this guy needs to learn to pay attention a little more. Aside from the 2 pt conv vs TD, he also announced the wrong player a few times after the play. It bothers me when he announces one player on the reception but another one actually caught the ball. How Withy-Allen managed to catch the ball after he was the one that threw it.....WOW, I know the kid's good, but still, that's pretty impressive.;)

Hey guys the Guard website may not have much info but at least the Guard ownership pays their bills. With all these other teams in trouble so early in the season the Guard may win it all due to there are no teams to play. I sure hope that all the teams we play will make it all season so we get a full home game season. Team owners that don't pay up just hurt everybody all around. Its just sad that the NIFL cant get it together and make sure that ownership can pay all their bills for a full season.
So Go Guard and the Guard ownership for paying their bills and making sure that the Indoor football fans that pull for the Guard and the fans of teams that play the Guard get to see the games they they were promised when the schedule came out.

I heard a rumor that the Phantoms were going to be playing all the scheduled road games and might also be playing against teams that they were supposed to host if the other team would be able to host them instead. Has anyone heard if we might be able to host the game that was supposed to be in WPB? If so, we will be playing the same team 2 weeks in a row, both at home. That is a bonus game for us, if the arena is available, and the Guard is willing to put out the money it would cost to rent and host the game.
Please remember this is a RUMOR, and I have not heard any confirmation of it, I am just asking if anyone else has any information on it.

Mike,
Sorry that I haven't gotten back in touch with you. We are in the process of printing up fliers for the next game. If you are able to distribute them, that would be great! Just call the office 482-4328 and ask for Katina. I will set up a time for you to come pick them up or figure out some way to get them to you.
As far as the announcer goes, we had to work with what we had and all things being equal, the person who we had for the first game did an "ok" job. :) HOWEVER........we will have a new more seasoned announcer from here on out.....many of you will probably recognize him!
Once again, thanks for your support!!!!!

Ouch. It's a bummer we lost, but at least it was to a fellow unbeaten team. It would've been worse if we had lost a game we should've won. Hopefully we'll rebound in the coming weeks. We have a pretty easy schedule the rest of the way, as all of the teams left on the schedule are currently at or under .500.

I agree GoGuard. One of the teams had to go down. Unfortunately it was us this time. But they will get it back together, and next week is possibly the last road game, then we finish out at home (except maybe the WPB game). Can't ask for more.
I noticed Mitch didn't play. FayGuard, can you offer insight? Is he still hurting from last week? Hope he gets better soon and is back out there next week.
Also, who is #42 B. Tracy? Did we sign an actual kicker?
Drew, you asked me to let you know about my visit to the office. Representatives form the team will be at Books-A-Million on Tuesday, May 9 (right before the next home game--greats time to get the word out), for a Teacher Appreciation event that they are having there. It is from 5:30-7:30. All teachers--of any kind, homeschool, scouts, Sunday school, whatever--will receive 20% off total purchase and can register for door prizes. The Guard have been generous enough to donate one of the door prizes, along with the FireAntz, I think the Swampdogs, and I don't know who else so far, but it should be a pretty busy night. Please spread the word to any teachers you know.

Funny the first week we have a kicker we lose. Not that he had anything at all to do with it really. Just a funny point. Is it the 13th yet. I so can't wait for the next home game. My question about the kicker is that at the beginning of the season, Siani said he didn't want to waste a roster spot on a kicker, but now we have one. Whose spot did he take? (Just please tell me you spelled his name right on his jersey--lol.)
I don't actually mind having a kicker. It worked pretty well not having one in the first few games but teams start to catch on to things like that. Kinda like Wilmont Perry. I really like him and like our chances when he's our there, but other teams know that we are going to go with him and they will key on him too much. We need to spread the ball around more.

Hey guys, tough loss last week, I got updates from my wife as I was in VA. Anyhow, Thanks for the updates on happenings around F'ville. I plan on getting tickets with my ID this Friday. So plan on the possibility of an additional home game.

On another subject, the kicker is from Rome's team of last year. He is about 45% on his FG's and around 75% on PAT's. It was his leg that beat us in Rome last year. He scored I think 7-7 FG's in that game, and he was the deciding factor in it. Hope he come's around and can produce for us like he did for them. When I saw him he was all but perfect so maybe he can still kick it from 45 and less. On the Perry note from earlier, you are right we need to spread it around more and use him once they (the enemy, whomever they are) think we can't. A bit of deception would not hurt us. Maybe even a play or two with him as a WR and some else in at RB. Looks as if we might have done that this past week but I can't tell from the stats. Later Drew.

One last thing, I went back and looked at the 05-08-2005 stats from the Rome game, Brian Tracey went 7-12 on FG's in a game we lost in OT 60-57 at Rome. He kicked the FG in OT to win it. Longest FG in the game was 48 yards but he was still good back then. Let's see who he replaced and if he can still kick. Drew.

If so, they need to get the word out pretty quickly so that we can get more people there. Looking forward to the game on the 13th. They need to get word out, period, about the team to get people to the games already scheduled, they will need to work even harder to get people to an unscheduled game.

I'm pretty sure we'll be willing to host it. Last year, we were to play at Miami in the regular-season finale. But like Palm Beach, they had arena issues, so they came up here and played at the Crown (we beat them 62-2, fun game... but curse that safety!). Our friend here from the front office can probably give us more information on that, but I'm pretty sure we'd be able to host it. It'd be weird playing the same team in the same building twice in a row, but hey, seven straight Saturdays of Guard football at the Crown ain't too shabby. :D

GF3, The stats were controlled by Charleston, not sure why they are not on the site but I was told the home team is reasponsible for the reporting issue. Anyhow, Mitch did not play, I talked with him and he is still working on the Hamstring injury. I told him we were a better team with him in there. He makes us have another threat on offense and relives the burden from Wilmont and Walter. He also makes them cover us different allowing him or JJ to get open. He said if all goes well with this long break he will play in the back at the Crown next week. One other thing to mention, our kicker still needs work. Not sure how much practice he's doing but if we are going to use his spot for someone else then his kicks should be automatic. I feel that from what I have seen his days are numbered unless he shows remarkable improvement. 40 yard FG should give us points every time, and an XP should be the same. Just my opinion. Later Drew.

Thanks Drew. We are a better team with Mitch out there, but I have been worried about him since he came off the field against Osceola. Not having had a home game, I haven't had a chance to see how he's doing, but I am glad he's getting better. It will be good to see him back out there.
As for the kicker, I agree that he should be making more than he is. I saw the numbers from the Lakeland game, and since we decided to bring in a kicker, he should have better stats than that. Hopefully, he is getting in a lot of practice this week and will be much improved when they boys come home.
Just a reminder, representatives from the Guard will be at Books-A-Million on Tuesday for their Teacher Appreciation event from 5:30-7:30. All teachers with ID will be elegible to register for door prizes--Guard and FireAntz contributed--and will also receive 20% off purchases.

We are half way thru the season and it looks bad. The fans and future fans need something to keep them current on the team. We have to build a bigger true fan base just like the Fireantz have done. Ok just got my tickets for Sat night's game. I sat down and had a few words with Bobby Jackson(Guard GM) while I was down there. First thing great man very friendly and open about anything, anyone cares to know about. He gave me so really good facts about the whole WPB team. The owner is very well off when it comes to money and the arena is the reason they have no home to to play in this year. The owner was told to pack things up until next year and he said no way would he let his name be mud for doing that. He is playing out BIG $$$$ to keep the team playing this year. So that shows you what kinda owner they really have down there in WBP. Now back to our Guard We will be having the May 27th game here in Fayetteville now due to the WBP issuse. 7 Straight home games Come on people how sweet is that going to be to have our team here for that many home games in a row and then rolling right into the playoffs. We have got to get the word out and pack the house. There maybe some new military ticket prices out there soon so if you know anyone military get the word to them too. We have something good on our hands here people lets do what it takes to keep them around for years to come. Until next time................GO GUARD

It's frustrating. Me and my mom are telling quite a few people about it, so we're trying. I just don't understand why people don't care about a team this awesome. People have got a chance to watch one of their teams win a championship! How is that not exciting? And even for the people who could care less how well Fayetteville's teams do, coming out to a Guard game is still a Saturday night well spent. You can't walk out of there after a game saying you didn't have fun. Every time I've brought someone to a game, they've loved it. It's just sad more people don't come. All I can think of is that the novelty of indoor football has worn out here. The Wildcats got 5,000-6,000 people per game in their first season, which was probably because Fayetteville had never seen indoor football before, and was curious to try it out. After that first season, though, people stopped coming, and an indoor football game here has never really had a big crowd since. That's the only logical reason I can think of, because other than that, there's no reason why people shouldn't want to come to Guard games. At least you guys in the front office are trying. The Wildcats totally shafted us (funny to note, since they left Fayetteville, their team has been awful), but you guys really want to make it work here in Fayetteville, and that's awesome. Hopefully things will get better in the stands, because on the field, things are going pretty well. :)

I passed out about 30-40 handouts about the game to friends of mine but most would have to travel anywhere from 1.5 to 2 plus hours like we do to see them play. I am a firm believer that once you go you will come back. Last weekend also had Mother's day on Sunday and some guys might have been out of town to visit. This week as a matter of fact is payday for military and civil service so everyone should have money. I used my ID to get tickets and like the idea of the $13 tickets now available to the guys in uniform. 1. Get in touch with the B.O.S.S. program for single soldiers.
2. Get tickets and advertisement over to Tickets and Tours, 396-8747/8687.
3. Put flyers/posters to both bowling centers.
4. Put flyers/posters out at all PT centers, there are 12 located on Bragg.
5. BlackJack Rec. Center has some business and a Cyber cafe, flyers again.
6. Do appearances at Sports USA club and Willies Sports bar at the O-club.
7. This week send people to the Ft. Bragg Fair that runs until the 21st.
8. Get in good with ACS (Army Community Services), they have all the know.
Last here's a link to try for numbers http://www.fortbraggmwr.com/index.html

I think that's one thing that should be permanent. This is the military's team, and a ticket price that cheap would get more of them out to the Crown, I'd imagine. The fact that it was Mother's Day weekend may have been the reason why there weren't as many people at the game Saturday night, but I bet if the $13 ticket thing was done again this Saturday, I bet it might work. Actually, Wilmont's POW was for the Charleston game. I know the stats aren't on the league site, but they had to have access to them somehow. I do agree that some of our players may have missed out because of the Florida game, but they had the info they needed for the Charleston game. I personally think that the team should be fined if they do not turn in stats in a timely manner. Didn't they do that last year a lot because of game tapes not being sent in properly? Make it apply to stats as well.
As for getting a ball at the game, I usually sit right behind the bench and I have not gotten a ball. They usually label them and hold them for the player until after the game. I am hoping to get a ball some time this year, but I don't know if its going to happen. #1 GF, I hope to meet you Sat night. I will be wearing my #80 Galloway jersey from last year.

Not sure where we will be sitting this week, but I like section 118. I have seen games from the corner before and you get to see the holes made for runs and have a chance to catch a ball. No matter I will be there pulling for the Guard. By the way did you guys read what Herb said on the WPB thread about players checks and transportation. He/she must be full of it at least I hope so. Don't want that team to not show up because of distance or maybe it's courage could be the problem. Either way, GO GUARD!!!!

From what I have heard/been told Palm Beach will be bussing it to Fayetteville (not sure if they will be leaving tonight or tomorrow night but they will be there well before 7 PM Saturday night). Nobody is making anyone drive themselves. I dont know where the story about players "having" to drive themselves to Osceola even came from,, I know a couple of them did drive there but from what I understand it was their own choice, some rode together,, that they decided to do so since it isn't very far and so they could go out after the game or whatever. I know one (my boyfriend) has family and friends there that he wanted to stay and spend a little time with after the game and the next day. I'll have to find out what happened with the checks bouncing,, that may be true. I am pretty sure no one has walked out or quit the team though so it might have already been taken care of. Hoping for a good game Saturday (and the week after) in Fayetteville. My loyalty is with Palm Beach but the Guard is certainly due thier props (means respect for those of you who don't "speak jive"). I will leave all the trash talking bs to those of you who do it so well!

Just so you know though,,the Phantoms are on the bus and on the way,,they will be there tonight (if they aren't already). Hopefully I can get up there for the game and hopefully it is, if nothing else an exciting one,,win or lose. You never know they could surprise everyone... A girl can only hope,,, ;)

Goodness... I hope all these blowouts don't mess up our preparation for the playoffs. It's going to be like this the rest of the regular season, most likely. We crushed Palm Beach in the first game of our doubleheader against them, 59-20. Lakeland lost tonight (thank you RiverCity!), so we're currently tied with them for the top spot in the Atlantic. They win the tiebreaker, though, since they beat us a few weeks ago. About the Phantoms' traveling plans... I asked one of their players what they were going to do, and he said they were going to stay in Fayetteville. So they'll get to enjoy life farther north for a week. And finally, #1 Guard Fan, good to meet you. I saw you getting into it during the game, so I'd say you definitely live up to your screen name. :)

I was wondering the same thing. I can't imagine that it is cheaper for the team to stay here than it is for them to go back and drive up again next weekend. And about their other jobs, too.
Anyway, way to go boys!!!!! Lets do it again next week. I want to thank the players (since I found out that some of you read on here) that asked and made sure that I got a ball. I told Mitch that even though it was a practice ball, it would hold me over until I get a gamer. Now, who do I need to speak to about getting Galloway back on the field? His fans want to see him back out there, if only so that we can wish him a proper farewell.

I haven't heard anything about them staying up there... The owners family is from there I think so he might but I thought their plan was to drive (bus) back to West Palm tomorrow.. Plans may have changed though. I know the bus cost about $800 and they sent some of their stuff (equipment) up separately,,not sure what that expense is..

whats up guard fans? you guys are having a great season. i'm excited to have football back in chucktown and get to re-new the charleston/fayetteville rivalry. your players really enjoyed the trash talking from me in charleston....i will trash talk the whole game and they were good sports even some of your fans that came down...wilmont perry is still a big threat...i tried to get in his head, but only pissed him off...he scored like 4 td's. mitchell galloway, if you read this thanks for the 5 tickets...i will call you soon!!! so, whats the attendance like at the crown coliseum for the guard? back with the other team the wildcats, the place was nearly a sell-out all games....the guard is good this year...but there is sharks on the loose and we are getting hungry for the division......you've been sharked!!!!
goguard88
05-21-2006, 08:31 PM
Charleston winning the division? Ha! Be realistic, buddy. Playoffs, maybe, but a division title? No.
And by the way, the Crown was never near a sell-out during Wildcats games. The closest they ever came was 7,000 people in their inaugural season. In 2003, they filled up half the place practically every game, but then in 2004, it really started to tank. In that season, only one game brought 5,000+. The Guard has never had 5,000, which is really sad. Hopefully we'll get more people in the playoffs. I think if we hosted the Indoor Bowl, we could hit the 5,000 mark. Maybe we'll get to find out. :)

If it was not you then say hey to the guys in that section. We enjoyed beating you guys the first time and I'm sure we'll enjoy it again. By the way, remember even sandsharks get washed up on shore, no sense of direction it appears. Good luck on your season though and feel comfortable with a second place behind us. Beat everyone else on your schedule so at least Charleston can host one playoff game. Later Drew

Hey Guys,
Im New To This Board And New To Fayetteville. I Went To A Guard Game For The First Time On Sat. Had The Best Time, Loved The Tailgateing The Pregame And All Those Milk Jugs, That Was A Trip. What Can I Or We Do To Get More People In The Stands To Support This Team. Could U Imagine If There Was 5 To 6 Thousand People In There, The Atmosphere Would Be Unbeliveable. Someone Tell Me What I Can Do To Help??????????

Football Head thats the million dollar question around here. All of the local teams that play out at the Crown can never get great crowds to support them. I think the best I have seen lately is the Fireantz Hockey which had about 3500 on aver. I have never understood this town. No offesne to anyone but I think alot of the people here rather drink their money and put the rest in some girls panties. Not saying that can't be fun but the local teams we have here are great and many of towns would die for what we have here. I want be able to make it out to this weekends game but I will be back and tailgating for the next 3 games hopefully.

Noise that has to be you in the Cowgirl shirt. The ABP owner was from Fayetteville. I think they played a good game being under the conditions they were. No head coach and no starting QB. Come on they had us on the ropes in the 1st quarter

Yeah I think this is a year that we have a chance to bring Fayetteville that long awaited Championship. I think the noise level and talking to the players to get to them over time. I was kinda sad not to see all the milk jugs back out like the week before. People just need to learn not to shake them when we are on off.

#1 you will be missed this weekend but the rest of will be pulling for the Guard. By the way, I heard rumors that the word is not being passed out on Post, is that true? I made a list the other week for places I would go to promote the team. I know one area that is probably untouched is the old Division area where mobilizations occur. I was out there last year when I went on active duty, but can't remember the Female SGM's name that was in charge of the Support BN for the area. Hopefully she is gone as she was a real bad A$$, about morale. Most of those guys are Reserve and Guard members with no transportation, maybe someone can get by there too.

Please don't be like everyone else and forget about Pope AFB. I get the feeling that a lot of people only think about Bragg when it comes to thongs like this. I know quite a few people from Pope that are really big supports(me being one of them) I have noticed the Guard in the Pope Base paper the last two weeks. I didn't forget about the airmen out there, but I guess I should have said both of the bases. When I say that most think of my way, Navy/Marines call it a base and so does the AF but Army guys all call it a Post. Where I work a lot of people call it the station, due to MCAS is a Marine Corps Air Station. Anyhow, at least the word is out on the military bases. I too have been spreading the word thru what we call MCCS (MWR) onboard both MCAS Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune. Hope to see plenty of those guys come. I know it will be hard for some but make welcome the Marines that do make the trip. Most did not know about the team at all. Drew.
