That's awesome. Should make for a loud crowd, even if it's not totally full. I'm worried that we won't get 2,000, thanks to Memorial Day weekend. We'll see what happens, though.

#1 Guard.....just wanted to let you know that there most definitely will be a game this weekend. Not sure who you spoke with at the office, if it was me, I do apologize if I sounded "shakey" or short...lol. We just have been so busy and worn out, the phones in there have been ringing off of the hook!
GTDREW, just to let you know we did invite quite a few from Camp Lejune/Cherry Point and it seems so far that we have gotten a pretty good response from them!
Also wanted to let you know that we have not forgotten about Pope. They have been contacted as well throughout the season and have been asked to participate. I do believe that they will be participating in our next Military appreciation game which will be on June 10th.
Also, the players are supposed to be downtown tomorrow night (probably around 6:30-7:00) for 4th Friday. They will probably be out around the area where Pierros is if anyone wants to come out!
Thanks to all!!!!!

Oh yeah....I forgot to mention that Up & Coming Magazine is running bios on all of the players. The latest edition came out today and features Ken Brown, Jon Byrd, Wilmont Perry, and Johnny Surratt i believe.

Hey Guardnoize it doen't matter who, what, when first. I just had some pent up crap from last year I was venting on you. I didn't like how you treated the Rage head coach last year and I was holding that against you. But anyway all that does not matter and here it is Sorry for acting like a baby. You are alright even if you are a Cowboy fan.
As for other things to talk about Fridays Fayetteville Obsever was a good read. Mr. King seem to vent some and damn if he is not right about everything said in the article. I too have trouble getting my friends to come out the the Guard games. I just don't understand if you are a football fan why you wouldn't come out and see this great team. I love football in all its forms and I can say that this weekend will be the first game that I have ever missed, and when I say missed I'm talking back to the Wildcats, missing this game is killing me but family is I guess more important and I can not miss my brother in laws getting out of the Army party. I would like to be at the game though. My heart is with the Guard, I love football like is a religion because to me it is a religion, and I hope that soon that the fans will come back. I say come back because the Wildcats showed that the Crown could fill up. We just need to get back to that, filling up the Crown...Go Guard and good luck heckling Guardnoize.

Well, that was fun, haha. I have to say, playing against our own semi-pro team was weird, but hey, it made for some good entertainment. They were flat out awful. I was worried that we'd give up the shutout near the end, but we held on for the 70-0 victory. Also, it was good to see Mitch back in action. Glad to have him back. Before I go, I have to give some shoutouts: nice to meet you, Guardfan3, and nice seeing you again, Daryl and guardnoize! Daryl was sitting right behind me, so me and my mom were talking to him throughout the game. After his actions in the final minute of the game, though, I don't think he deserves to be allowed in the building again. He was rooting for the Phantoms (er, the Rough Riders) to score on their last drive so there wouldn't be a shutout! Shame, shame. ;)

Another win for the Guard--sort of. It is bittersweet as they did not play a real NIFL team. I commend those former players that showed up and also the RoughRiders players that filled in to help out as they took a beating.
The really sad part is that this was our best crowd of the season and they had to witness that. If that game is what it takes to bring first timers back to the game, then this team will not survive for long. There are some competitive teams out there and when they come to town, the scores will be a lot closer. For me it will be more exciting as you really get to see what our players can do when they put forth the effort.
I also applaud our boys for not running up the score any more than they did. It could have been a whole lot worse on the "Phantoms." No one even got a chance to see what Walter Ford can do as his only return was the first play of the game. This game did allow Ronketti a little more playing time and experience, and Withy-Allen got to practice kicking when--if he missed (and he did a few times)--it wouldn't decide the game.
Thanks to all the fans that showed up, the players, the "Phantoms" and the staff for bringing us another game. But next time, lets just take the forfiet win, don't risk our players getting injured, and don't embarrass the other team, and don't embarrass the league any more than it already is.
I will continue to support the Guard as long as they are here. But when things like this happen, it seems like I won't have a team to support for much longer. Even if our team doesn't fold, pretty soon there won't be enough teams to field a league.
Sorry, rant over now. It was nice to meet both GoGuard and Drew after the game tonight. Take care, see you next week at the game.

It was great to see the crowd out at the crown, no matter who we played. I think the fans got what they paid for in the long run. I hate it for phamton1 on the other threads but oh well. The true story may never come out completely I just don't want to hurt the team or the owners or the town in all of this. It's bad when people can't make their commitments. Great work players for not running up the score and to the guys who filled in for the WPB WHO, that is what a phantom is a ghost so transparent you may not see them. Now they are here then they are gone. Grim Reaper logo needs to go and a ghost rider one replaced by it. Drew.

good question about the riversharks game. rumor has it that the real riversharks have all baled because of money issues. the current "riversharks" team is the semi-pro team, the pioneers, that play in the southern football league. so, i'd say chalk up another victory against your second semi-pro team in as many weeks.

Hopefully the bad press form this past weekend will not hurt the Guard and the growing fan base. Sounds like they had a good crowd this past weekend. I just wish the league did more homework on people before they let them join the league and get a team. I see a new league forming after this year

#1,
I don't get the paper due to my distance from Fayetteville, just online, but if it is anything like in the past the Guard stories are not usually front page. Anyhow, we all still need to put the word out and get cheeks in the seats. I was a bit disappointed with the turnout from my way as I did not see the number of Marines I had hoped too. But with the long weekend and short notice back here, (These guys had never heard of the Guard), I guess it turned out OK. I will be talking to the MWR (MCCS) guys here next week to see what the final ticket total was. I am going to try to put them in direct contact with the GM for any future deals on group rates and possible bus trips. We as a true fan base need to support our team, the owners and the staff of the Guard. I would like to see the Crown with about 7500 to be honest, maybe we can set a record, do you know what it is by chance? Later, Drew.

I agree 7,500 at the Crown would be nice. I have been trying the years I have live here what it would take to pack that place. I think even if the tickets were free it would still not be packed out. I think the County had bigger plans for the place when it was built that never happened. I think if we could get a solid fan base of around 4,000 that would be great. I know there are supporters out there because I have seen them at Fireantz games. We as true fans and the Front office just have to figure out what to do to get the cheeks in the seats

They've done better with that this season. Every game recap is usually on the front page, and some other Guard stories get the front page at times. So I'd say they've definitely improved.

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you to those true fans who have stuck it out with us and who will continue to do so.
I am in this position because I have earned the trust of the ownership and the trust of the fans. I have never tried to lie or misinform anyone. When I initially talked to Mike Lind, he requested and I agreed to let him move the game here due to the fact that they did not have a field. The night of the game on the 20th, Mr. Lind disappeared. After numerous attempts to contact him, Carolyn Shriver was called. We (Carolyn, the ownership and I) decided to call Avion Brown. Mr. Brown was instructed by the league to bring the Phantoms' gear and the team up for the game on the 27th. We decided to take care of all of the expenses for the other team....transportation, hotel, meals etc. We also decided to pay each player. This was all done because we had a game that had to go on.....not just for the players, but for the fans. I did not and would not intentionally mislead the fans. I've been criticized and threatened to be sued by Mr. Lind.
All this being said, I received a phone call on Sunday morning from Mike Lind. He said he wanted to talk. It was a good conversation, he apologized and I accepted his apology. I do not feel that our organization will be sued as a result of Saturday night.
If anyone feels that I have been misleading in any way, shape or form, please do not hesitate to call me on my cell at 910-583-0213.
Also, there WILL be a game this coming Saturday against Tenn. and three more regular season home games will follow that. We are also looking to host all four of the playoff games!!!
If you all as fans could bring 5-10 people to each game, that is what it will take for us to make it in this league.
Thank you all for your continued support,
Bobby Jackson

Of course I'll support them, like I have been since the beginning. I just wish they had more support from everyone. This is one of the best teams in the NIFL, both on and off the field. They're not perfect, but at least they're trying. That's definitely more than we can say about the Wildcats (disgusts me to even say their name). The Guard deserves better.
Thanks for your post, Mr. Jackson! We get to read plenty about all the problem teams, it's great to read from someone who's working hard to do it right, going the extra yard and a half for the fans of the Guard and for the game of indoor football itself.
I'm glad to see that Mr. Lind has had second thoughts about the way he viewed things, and the olive branch that you've extended by sharing your conversation with him.
Keep up the great work! I hope to see great success for the Guard organization, and I'm sure it'll come with the hard work and honest effort that's being put into the team.

I did not even bother wasting my time calling down there to ask him what he is thinking. He is so stuck on himself it is not even funny. Maybe a new league will be around the corner next year. Any news on that Fay06??????. Bobby got upset at me before the season when I said we should have moved to the AIFL but I see they are not much better now either. I think a new southern league could be the answer for a lot of teams next year.

I won't say this is in his defense, but he seemed far more critical of the NIFL as a league than of the Guard. Quoting from the article:
"The saddest thing about the fiasco the NIFL has become is that it reflects so negatively on King, general manager Bobby Jackson and their team. None of this was their doing.
But yet, despite their passion — or more important, their solvency — the Guard is still looked upon as something of a third-string quarterback among local minor league franchises."
The Guard were put in a no-win situation. Either call off the game and spend months, if not years, wiping the egg off its face, or wipe the walls with the team the league sent in. The Guard chose the lesser of two evils.
IMO, Friedlander's article is really more of an indictment of these replacement teams and the lopsided scores that inevitably result from playing them. Without writers like Friedlander commenting on it, will it change?
section106
05-31-2006, 05:02 PM
Newspapers and media create perception whether they admit it or not. The headline was very negative toward the Guard and unfair. The article itself was ok, although he could have given a little more credit to the quality of the product the Guard puts on.
I'm mad the Patriots went away, although predictable, and I would hate to see the Guard go away unless it was a legitimate business decision that King has to make. To have the local sportswriters sabotaging them makes no sense whatsoever.
Someone at my work asked me today about the Guard, completely unsolicited. He wants to go to a game and I told them they are great and fun, go for it. Next comment was, "whats this about them not being serious?"
Perception, Mr. Friedlander.

I just don't understand where Friedlander was at the beginning of the season when the Guard went on the road and came away with only 1 loss and now that some team can't finish what they promised to do (play a full season) and now he wants to write a story.
Where was he last year when the Guard hosted playoff games for teams with better records because they didn't have a place to play or when I can't remember the team but that team had to wear Ruff Rider uniforms because they didn't have their own. If Friedlander knew anything about the NIFL he would not be making a big deal over this. These things happened last year also. But I guess it was because the Guard was not 9-1. Don't beat a team that is already down.
Teams do what they have to so that they can make their fans happy and if that means helping out the other team so the game can go on I say that is great ownership and they care about their fans.
Maybe Friedlander should come out to the game this weekend and we can tie him to a light pole and throw beer cans at him.

Some have commented on it here before, but you CANNOT expect the media to follow a minor league team around and dig for stories. Most of these papers don't have the time or resources, and minor league teams fall too far down their priority list. Such effortless coverage occurs consistently in very few markets. The trick is to give the media information from which they can work.
If you don't issue regular press releases, you can expect home game reports in the local paper and very little else. This is one area in which the Guard, and indoor football as a whole, needs to improve. OurSports Central, for instance, has not received one press release from the Guard since July 19th, 2005, despite repeated requests for them. That's nearly a year! The NIFL site also does not have releases from the team. Similarly, how many times has the Guard website been updated over that stretch? We would love to have posted something on the Guard's great road start, definitely something for the franchise to be proud of, but we didn't get anything. As a team, you have to provide information to the media so they have something to work with. The more the media gets, the more the fans get.
Perhaps Friedlander's article reflects his perception of the Guard's effort in this area? Don't get me wrong, the team's business operations appear solid, among the best in the NIFL, but if you don't even issue press releases, something expected of professional teams, can you complain about the lack of media coverage and subsequent soft attendance numbers?

Great point about the lack of press releases and lack of the website being updated. I do have to say one thing there have been articles in the Fayetteville newspaper about the Guards win streak before last weeks game with so called "fake phantoms" and Friedlander never wrote about any of those articles he just picked the one that was negative and ran with it. Also if you look at the Fayetteville paper Friedlander seems to only write about teams in a negative light. All the articles I could find that he wrote about the Guard have something nagative in them. He also wrote about the Patriots when they folded at the end of this season. I didn't see any positive article of his.
Your post has many true points but I feel that Friedlander's article could hurt a very good organization and the efforts that it made for its fans last week to up the attendance. That's just my opionon.

05-31-2006, 07:28 PM
Rob, I agree with you that negative articles can hurt. I haven't reviewed enough of Friedlander's stuff to agree or disagree on if he's generally negative toward all Fayetteville teams. Unfortunately, you can't really do too much about negative press except be proactive about it. If writers see a good, honest effort from the local group (that includes press releases and disseminating information in a timely manner), they're less inclined to rip you, even when they have good reason. I would say that his article was more critical of the NIFL than the Guard in particular, but it didn't shine a great light on the Guard, that's for sure, even though, as he mentioned, they couldn't have done anything about this mess. It does show what effect a league can have locally, a discussion we had earlier in the month in another NIFL thread.

I agree that he is trashing the league a bit but if some of you follow our colleges in F'ville, he has been known to trash both Methodist and F'ville State before. I think he does that to get a rise out of some of us, just to sell papers. It's the first amendment working at it's best. If it gets people to come to the game then I am all for it. But from my experience watching many of the MC games and reading his reviews, just let it roll off your back, because in the end he will get real quite or be the first to say that the Guard is a true champion. No matter what some pinhead sportswriter writes, the Guard are a great organization. There will always be financial problems with minor league teams. Long after the leagues come and go and change, the Guard , and other strong franchises like the Rage will still be going.

I e-mailed the Fayetteville paper and told them i thought the article was a cheap shot. I recieved a fairly lengthy and thought out reply from Kennedy, the associate editor.
The reply basically confirmed what Preeths was saying. The folks in the sports room did not get info from the team early in the season, tried to set up a photo shoot for the players to run an introductory article but "got no cooperation from the office" and other miscellaneous gripes. He said they debated the byline of the story, some in the office felt it too "harsh", but they ran with the "hard to take serious" headline anyway.
There were some positve comments and recognition that the owners and team are trying, but from the sports desk, they feel that the team could be doing better about helping them get information.

Another blowout win over replacement players; this time, 78-14. That sets a record for most points ever scored by the Guard, and ties a record for most points ever scored by a Fayetteville football team (the Wildkittens did it in 2004, I believe). The highlight of the night for me, though...

Yes sir, I finally got a football. After four years of coming agonizingly close, I finally got the ball to bounce my way. Literally. The Tennessee quarterback threw a pass that was way off. The ball bounced off the field, into the stands, hit the rail, and bounced right beside me. What a sweet feeling it was to grab that thing. :D
Also, I finally got to meet the real #1 Guard Fan, haha. Good to meet you, and glad to see you've already got an NHL Eastern Conference champions shirt. As for me, I think I'll wait for the one that says Stanley Cup champions.
Speaking of the Hurricanes, since they're on the verge of making North Carolina professional sports history, I am hoping to head up to Raleigh next Saturday night and watch Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals in the RBC Center, if they're going to have a viewing party there. Whether they do or not, though, I'll most likely not be at the Guard game on that night. I hate to miss it, but this is huge, and besides- for the Guard, it'll just be another easy regular season win. Same goes for the June 17 game, if the Stanley Cup finals go to six games. We'll see how it goes.

Congrats on the ball. I need to be a little more heads up when I am down there. It was great to finally meet you 88. Just think 2 more points and we all would have had wings. Heck, I don't even like wings, and I was rooting for that to happen. I thought that last interception would be ran all the way back. During the final seconds, Richard went onto the field, and it looked like he was trying to convince the Tennessee coach to turn it over or something so we could have a shot at 80 points. Yeah, I think the "Wings over F'ville" promoter wanted to give them away as part of a promo and help get the business rolling. Robs and I were think that maybe we should not run up the score. I think it was a nice thing that the team wanted to do for the fans, get us free wings, and I know that the clock was not manage correctly at the end by the officals, but Tenn. had just no chance against us. So I don't think we should have taken the timeout at the end just to get free wings. I think it would have show the Tenn. boys that they had earned respect for coming out with 14 players to play against a 10-1 team. Anyway that's OK because I'm a Gator fan and Spurrier loved to run up the score because he could and so did the Guard.
It did look like most of the folks at the game stayed until the end. So that is a positive.

Looks like I am going to have to move to section 115 this week. I guess someone has choosen to run me out of my AA seats in 103. Oh well I might have a better chance at a ball down by the endzone. I will be pissed if it is like last week when I tried to get AA seats and none where there to be sold but they were half empty come game time. 60 points. Oh yeah we will be getting some free wngs this week. I mean the game should be a better contest than the last two weeks but we will put up 60 points. They need to start leaving the starters in there all game because soon enough they will have to play the whole time again. Go Canes lets make it 2-0 tonight

GN, We would like a copy of the show this week if possible. I can bring you a blank VHS, disc, or whatever works for you. Let me know and I will see you prior to kickoff on Sat. for the exchange. It appears that tickets are hard to find from what you are saying #1. I usually wait until I get to the Crown @ 5 to get mine. Last week I tried to get lower end of 118 but ended up around row L and M. I guess it's a good thing as more people might be coming out, I hope so.

Yeah the way it sounded yesterday when I was getting my tickets it will be a good crowd. I mean come on $10 tickets that place should be packed. I looked at all the sections around both teams and they were sold up to the higher letters. I opted to move to the other side and get some AA seats

Anyhow, I do I have TWC but it's out of Jacksonville, NC. I get plenty of channels, however I don't get the local one in F'ville. Just messing around but you might have forgot that I live about 2 hours or so away. Thanks for the DVD, and I will see you at the game. Later, Drew.

Wow, it looks like Greensboro wasn't as much of a pushover as we thought they would be. 58-40 certainly isn't a blowout, but a win is a win. It was weird knowing there was a Guard game going on and I wasn't there, but bigger stuff is happening in the world of North Carolina sports right now. Obviously, I didn't get to go to the RBC Center to watch the game with other Caniacs tonight, but I hope to go Monday night for Game 4. I hope to be at the Crown next week for the Charleston game, but if the Stanley Cup finals go to six games, I'll have to miss another Guard game. I hate to do it, but this is history right here. When the Guard (hopefully) makes history of their own, I'll definitely be there. :)

88, I went to the Guard game and then made it home just before Brindy scored to tie it up in Edmonton. I will be watching Monday but I have to hope that it goes to at least 6 because I have to work Wednesday and won't be able to watch game 5 (at least not all of it, I should be able to catch the end). LETS GO CANES!!!
Good game by the Guard, and once again, they fell just 2 points short of free wings for everyone. But I will take the win anyway. It was actually good for a change to watch a game where there was a little competition. The last 2 games were wins, but they weren't "real" games against "real" teams. I think this also gives the guys a little better measure of where they stand as they move towards the playoffs. It was good for them and they know that they still have to work out some kinks.
Next week's the one I'll miss, but I'll be back for the regular season wrap-up against Mongomery. And of course, the playoffs.

We may not see for a while... the Observer's site is down. Hope it gets fixed soon; I'm anxious to read about the game.
EDIT: The site's back up, and so is the recap. 1,563 people... ouch. That was to be expected with the Hurricanes game tonight. Interesting to note, though- usually, when I miss a game, attendance is drastically low. I guess my presence draws people to the game? ;)

Another win by the Guard and another night of the Chicken wing joke. I don't ever seeing us getting the chicken wings. I mean come on we only needed 4 points to get it and could not close the deal. Sweet! Not only did the Guard crush Charleston tonight, but Lakeland lost, so we have the #2 seed and a first-round bye! Well, that's unless we lose to Montgomery, but I doubt that's happening. They'll at least prevent a blowout, but we'll still win, I'm sure. Sorry that I haven't been there the past two games, but like I said, this is big stuff happening with the Hurricanes. It's a shame they lost tonight, but it should be an exciting Game 7... at least we have a chance to win the Cup at home now. I'll be back next week as we wrap up the regular season, and then I'll drive myself nuts waiting two weeks for the playoffs to start for us. :)
By the way, with Billings beating Rapid City tonight... as long as we get to the Indoor Bowl (and if we beat Montgomery next week, of course) and Billings loses next week to Tri-Cities, we'll definitely host the big game. However, if Billings wins next week and makes it to the Indoor Bowl, then it'd come down to a tiebreaker. I'm not sure how the tiebreaker would work in that situation, so I'll e-mail the NIFL and see what they say.

Man, I hate that. We have that problem every single time. It's really annoying.
Hey guys....just wanted to let you all know that the way that Ticketmaster works is that if a seat is listed as "sold" in the system, we cannot re-sell it....lol. It's not the fault of the ladies in the ticket booth. I sit in there with them on game days and I sell tickets from the Guard office as well. What happens when you see those empty seats and were told by myself or the box office that they were taken, is that either they are/were season ticket holders who did not show up, corporate sponsors who did not show up, or comp tickets that were distributed and the person(s) unfortunately did not take advantage of a "freebie". There is absolutely no way of us in the ticket window knowing whether or not those people are actually coming or not. I know that it sucks and is very very annoying but unfortunately, the only thing that can be done about it is for you all to keep an eye on the seat and if it seems that no one is coming, just move down (but you didn't hear that from me) :) .
I hope that clears up any seating questions/frustrations/misunderstandings.
Also a heads up...for the playoffs there will be three ticket prices; an in your face ticket, an adult ticket and a childs ticket. I'll let you know by mid week exactly how much and approx. when they'll go on sale.
And finally, our last regular season game on the 24th is Fan Appreciation. Come to the Guard offices before noon on Friday 23rd at 108 B Gillespie street to get discounted $10 tickets.
Thanks and please let me know if there are any questions, comments or suggestions!

It was good to be back at the Crown tonight after two weeks away from it. Apparently, as far as the score, nothing's changed, haha. A 68-14 blowout win over Montgomery was good to see, considering I thought the Maulers would actually make it somewhat close. With this win, we get the #2 seed in the Atlantic, and two much needed weeks off. We have an odd game time for our first playoff game, though. It's on a Sunday (July 16) at 4:00 p.m. That means, for the first time ever, an indoor football game in Fayetteville will take place entirely in the day. It'll be pretty weird, but hey, at least that's less time that I have to wait after I wake up. :)

Anyhow, round trip to St. Louis about $400 and Billings about $750 from RDU for those considering going to the away games. I had heard that a bus might be arranged for fans should the team have to travel. Like I mentioned in the predictions thread, Lakeland's looking shaky, and a narrow 8-point win over Montgomery proves that. We destroyed the Maulers a couple of weeks ago, but Lakeland barely beat them. Next week's game will definitely be a much tougher test than what we've been facing the past several weeks, but I don't think it'll be a nailbiter. I'll make my pick (well, I should say score... you know who I'm picking to win) when the rest of the divisional round matchups are decided, and a new thread for predictions for that round is made.

I have wanted to post on this site in the past, but I didn't based upon respect for The Guard's fans. I pledge to give common sense info, yet reserve the right to throw some trash when warranted. GN (Noize) posts by intimidation. Outside observations indicate his rants bring disrespect to your organization. He makes artificial noise-makers when our own fans bring their voices. His posts are stocked with inane laughter and illogical opinions. I honestly hope you can save him, he has the drive needed for devoted fans. He just needs to focus his energy on the team instead of himself. Noize, I know you are reading this, take it to heart...

OO, I would not worry about ol' GN for now he's probably banned for life. Anyhow, he will work a team over at the games and try to get a rise out of some people on here. Thanks for being cool on here and all. Sorry, but I am still hoping for a River City loss and of course your team also as I hate to find a flight to Billings. It appears that only a few airlines fly in and out of there due to location. The biggie seems to be Northwest, followed by United, but I could be wrong. Can you assist should we have to fly there, given from personal experience of course? Good luck though this week, but I will have my fingers crossed. Later Drew.

Drew, if both our teams make it to the Championship game, round up some Guard fans, and I will check with some local friends on travel opportunities. Delta is the other big airline which usually comes through Salt Lake City. That ticket would probably be the cheapest at about $750/seat round trip. Why did you have to live so far away? =) I can help you find a decent place to stay at an affordable rate if it comes to that. Leave on Sunday and you can visit Yellowstone Park while you are here or you can attend the Great American Hillclimbs on Saturday just outside of Billings. It is the oldest, tallest, and richest motorcycle hillclimbs in the United States. There should be well over 20,000 people packed around the mountain for the event. So tell your Guard fans that if this all unfolds, there are other very cool things going on around here that weekend.

I have arediction for ya! We will beat you guys by 20 pts. Now "Get Cha Sum"

Hey guys, it appears that from what I have been reading that the only good and true games on our side of the bracket (Atlantic) will involve the Guard. The Rage has wound up with a gimme game which after we beat the bolts on Sunday (not an easy task) we will go to St. Louis. Overall that means we will have the toughest road to the finals. If our guys come thru, which I think they will, NO ONE and I mean NO ONE, should ever say that we do not have one of , if not the best team in the league. As always,
GO GUARD !!!!!!!!

Yeah, it's looking like we'll be headed to St. Louis if we beat Lakeland. We'll have to deal with that, but if we can get past the Rage, then there's still a great chance we can host the Indoor Bowl. All that has to happen is for Billings to lose, and that is certainly possible. The Outlaws are excellent, but they're not untouchable.

What a refreshing outcome to today's game. I always thought we were a great team, of course. But the fact that we not only beat a great team today, but blew them out, wow. That really makes me feel confident about our championship chances. I was a bit concerned when we were down 12-0, but to put up 44 out of the 50 points scored after that is impressive. I'm telling you, we've got a great shot to win it all. Bring on the Rage! :)
By the way, I echo what #1 Guard Fan said. I was hoping they'd do something like that. I'm not sure if I can go yet, but I really hope to. It'd be a fun trip (St. Louis is a nice place, I'm sure... and I also would get to be in the city that my Tar Heels won the national championship in last year :D), and it'd especially be fun to be a Guard fan in the Rage's house. Nothing better than silencing a crowd that's against your team.

Now is the time to for battle, we have studied the enemy's tactics, their capabilities, and above all their weaknesses to ensure our plan of attack will be successful. No matter if you are in the field of battle or in a supporting role behind the lines it is imperative that everyone does their part to ensure success. We can except no outcome short of victory in our conquest to become the best. Let us take no prisoners in our quest but also ensure the safety of the weak of mind and of heart, that is the true sign of a champion. I feel that silence can be the worst poison for some and also a very good weapon at times. As you sit and listen you hear things you might have otherwise missed. In our case on here it's something we might not have read. I have made that mistake several times on here and got wrapped up on a subject over nothing. My best advice is keep talking trash and somewhere football will come out of the conversation. It appears that we, and I include myself, have become nothing but a bunch of idiots who listen to complete hearsay. None of us have any idea what a team has or has not done. What has or has not been said behind closed doors. We make a lot of assumptions and then tend to blow them way out of the original concept of the purpose of this board. It is of my opinion, we are no better than the people we tend to criticize on here.
To the Guard fans and players, good luck and give Billings Hell no matter where the game is held.
To Billings Fans, good luck and be safe, hope no one else gets hurt and stay factual in your account of the game.

You're welcome to your opinion, and it's been fun to see all the Guard discussion this season. As the sole person who can speak to the "original concept of the purpose of this board," I can tell you that this is a place for fans and team/league officials to discuss minor league sports. You're not going to like everything you see all the time, including the opinions of others, and mine is no exception. Not sure what could have been done on my end to stop it from getting this far. That was in other people's hands.
I'm not going to be neutral on every subject, particularly if I see that something wrong is being done. As an example, Howard the Fraud needs to be found and held liable for his crimes, no two ways about it.
We have nothing but respect for the organizations who try to do things right, and that includes the Guard, but that doesn't mean we agree with all their actions. Good luck to everyone.

In response to GTDrew...Some of us have actually heard what has been said behind closed doors contrary to your statement. I think I speak for all of Billings fans when I say we have nothing but respect for the Guard football team. The coaches and players of Fayetteville have earned it by playing a great season on the field.
The only person from Fayetteville we don't have respect for is Richard King. I hope I get to meet Mr. King when he comes to Billings Friday night. I'd like to hear his side of the story. I will be seated on the left directly next to his team. I will be easy to find. I will be wearing my Billings Outlaws jersey #11 with the name Yellowstone on the back.
While many are predicting a Billings blowout, I don't see it that way. I think Walter Ford is going to give our kicking team fits much like AJ Street (before his knee inury) and James Jones did for Rapid. Wilmont Perry will be the toughest runner we have faced this season and will test the endurance of our D-Line. I do expect Billings to win, but it'll be a close one

Guard general manager Bobby Jackson is quoted as saying “If the executive committee tells us to go to Montana, we’ll go,” Jackson said. “But until that happens, we’re just going to sit tight and see what happens.”

It won't be ruined, The Guard will be here tomorrow. Word is they are flying, Go88, and won't leave until tomorrow. Have faith in something going right in this league. Yellowstone, BilOutlaws, and others (even Guard fans) - Some of the other posters here will be tailgating before the game up in the top lot under the bucking horse sign (I told AllAces it was a Donkey sign - merely a reference to Denver, sorry AA. You are welcome to another Bud Lite if you come for the game. Let me know if you do.). Yellowstone, sounds like you will be sitting on our collective laps. We have Jailhouse seats just to the left of the Guard bench - on the 15yd line. We'll be the ones hollering IN-COM-PLETE! Feel free to join in! GO OUTLAWS!
No problem on the sign - funny thing, I knew exactly what you meant...
I won't be able to make it. Work needs me on Friday - plus my wife is still a bit bitter about the loss. I have been trying to explain the whole sportsmanship thing, but she would like just come up to crack heads. She sees you guys as the enemy that put us out - and she hasn't gotten over that yet. You have to love her enthusiasm! She is a real fan.
Don't take it personally, but she will want revenge next year.
Good luck at the game. Check your PM for some intel.

Your wife must not be too happy with me since I sat on your bench last week AA.......

Yellowstone - I didn't even tell her about that. I didn't want her showing up on your doorstep! :D
All kidding aside - she is a great lady. I don't want to start a bash on here. Most women I know either don't care about football or have only a passing interest. She is a fan from the bottom of her heart. Like a couple of Billings fans I met last week.
Did you check you PM?

AA, we'll miss you here, but not your wife! Tell her the NIFL is trying to get us back for her. Um, her name wouldn't happen to be Carolyn, would it? See you next year, AA, you are a good egg...

OO, Glad to see you have not been caught up in this mess too much. I am entirely disgusted with the whole thing. I had planned to go up there, but now with not knowing, tickets are going to be too high before you know it. Either way, take care and if the game does go on Friday or whenever keep us in the loop. Later Drew.

Drew, if there is a way I can do it, I will. Keep in touch, the game is still a little ways away. CS might still find a way to screw it up, too.
