New coach will be in town within 10 days with a whole new team. No one will be retained from last years team and everyone will have to tryout for a spot. Go news for the Lincoln area players and fans.

I believe he'll be in town sooner than that, but still well behind other local teams that've been working for quite a while.

He has no preconceived notions about players that have been here in the past so everyone will have to prove themselves. Not a bad way to start.

Sounds like he's coming in with a plan and the promised support to be successful. Let's hope he does get it! This is a town that SHOULD be successful in football.

There's no way I'd support a team the following year when it they refuse to play its last game(s) of the season because they are "tired" of losing -- 2005 season.

That's bs.

Same goes for New Jersey.

Since it's obvious that you have no idea why that game wasn't played, I guess the team will just have to do without your support.

The team wanted to play, trust me!

That decision was not made by the Lincoln team.

Not sure where the first poster got his info on "No" players coming back from the 2005 team. I know the Head Coach coming in has plans for some of the players from last year's team. Others have signed with other teams prior to this coach accepting the position.

I know that "ALL" players will have to prove themselves, including the ones that coach is bringing in. One thing I know that will be different is that all players will be required to be at practices and at all the games. Anyone that can't make that commitment won't be on the team.

Yes, and I should have said the same thing when I responded.

I've had some communication with the new Coach, and he has asked about a number of players from last years team.

I know he's looking forward to setting up tryouts when he gets in town to finally get the chance to see many of these guys close up.

I worded that wrong. I should have said no players from last year's team have a guaranteed spot on this year's team. Everyone will have to prove themselves in tryouts.

Unfortunately, the team and league have never issued a good statement on why Lincoln's home finale was cancelled last season. It's hard to blame ChampionofSteel, when the only public announcements credited Lincoln with a forfeit.

Starting a team up with 6 weeks before their first game is complete suicide. Gotta love the NIFL and some of their retarded team owners. They personally define insanity every year as they bang their heads against a wall expecting a different result.

Just stupid! If your going to throw money out the window, why don't you decide to give it to charity so that it can be used responsibly.

Given the team's record last year, not retaining any players may not be such a bad thing. And it isn't like there isn't any talent around (Let's see, Nebraska, Nebraska-Omaha, Nebraska-Kearney, Concordia, Doane, Midland Lutheran, Dana and I know I'm missing about a half-dozen more schools within a two-hour drive of Lincoln.)

Here's what I've been able to piece together from other team websites:

04/01 - @ Arkansas
04/15 - Arkansas
04/28 - @ Wyoming
05/13 - @ Big Sky Thunder
05/27 - Wyoming
06/17 - Big Sky Thunder
06/23 - @Wyoming

I suppose I should put in the caveat "Schedule subject to change without notice."

LOL!

No, we won't claim him either.

I believe he is in Ohio, but he is the self-appointed conscience of indoor football.

Good Luck N 2006

Thanks, copperheadfans.com! We could use it, we are overdue!

Things should finally start happening in Lincoln later this week, more visible things should be happening that is. Big job ahead of them!

Best of luck in Katy, as well! Things have to be getting exciting there!

Like hosting some sort of player tryout or attempt to build a team. With 3 weeks until the season are they the only ones that doesn't have a coach in town or hold at least some sort of organized gathering of players? Trying to field a team with 3 weeks until the first game is another reason why they've lost 16 or so in a row.

You are oh so right!

Very frustrating, it should be so easy to have one of the top indoor teams in all of indoor football here in Lincoln. On the field and off!

Just takes determination and dedication from the top on down.

He's on his way! We'll see how things turn out, but he has been working in anticipation of getting to town.

Having the Flying Aces scheduled as our first two games will certainly be daunting, but we should find out where we are pretty quickly!

Do you have any sort of time frame or word when he'll be in town? I, along with several others are in playing this year. You seem to provide the best information and in a timely fashion.

I'm hearing that he'll be in Lincoln tomorrow, maybe not until evening.

His table will be full right from the start, I'm sure he'll be contacting people pretty quickly, probably have to spend his first few days lining things up locally though.

Look forward to you joining the team!

Seems that Pershing has two dates booked that appear as Capitols home game nights:

March 25
Rapid City @ Lincoln
(Unfortunately, the "No Coast Roller Derby Girls" have the building booked and the event is being advertised on the billboards outside)

April 15
Arkansas @ Lincoln
(Also advertised on this night is the always-exciting "Sigma Chi Fight Night." Maybe they can work a dual promotion!)

Yeah! I'm sure we'll be bumped to Friday night games again. Happens every year.

We should know more today, hopefully.

First game in 20 days, boy is that really, really pushing it for getting practices lined up, players on the field, sponsors finalized, and every other little detail lined up before the trip to Rapid City.

Very frustrating!

But in my opinion the Coach is doing the right thing. Make sure that things ARE taken care of before coming to town. As you've stated, there will be so many other things to do once he's here.

While I apologize for giving bad info earlier, I do believe that things are very, very close. I know he's been preparing on his end.

Anytime! Glad things finally are moving and I hope all things work out for you with the Capitols!

A few of our fans had the opportunity to meet and chat with Coach Simpson the other night and loved his enthusiasm.

If you're one of Carrawell's buddies, get him headed this way!

Best of Luck and look forward to catching you at one of the practices!

Looks like no one actually checks the facts on a coaches resume. Much of what he lists as accomplishments are distorted to the point of fiction. Too bad for the local fans. Many are surprised at some of the statements in his resume/bio. The team he was with last year did not check either.

Do you have specifics? Have you personally seen the resume or are you just casting aspersions?

fwp

Really makes no difference. I've been around, he's doing a fine job under, up to this point, adverse circumstances.

The late start will mean a slow beginning, but he's working hard and seems to be working smart. There are many things that still need to be done, but he isn't shying away.
