It looks like the NIFL's Dayton Warbirds are gone (or nearly so), but now is the city going to lose its other (AIFL) team --the Miami Valley (Troy) Silverbacks? What's going there? THe website has been down for awhile www.mvsilverbacks.com. Anyone have some good news?

From what I hear, the Silverbacks have a new local owner with deep pockets and a strong committment to success. They are moving ahead and will be prepared to play when the season starts.

As I understand it, the website problem has to do with league policy and the previous ownership... I don't know why they haven't resolved it yet.

If you go to www.aifltroy.com it redirects to the league website. If there is new ownership, it could be similar to the Binghamton situation where the owner had the rights to the domain and name so the league had to make a switch to Brigade from Brigadiers.

A friend of mine in Kettering called to say the Miami Valley team in Troy is backed by some excellent ownership. In fact, the coach told him he was pleased with the way the ownership wants to take the franchise. Look for some good things out of this bunch. They've signed some good players, 18 Big Ten types my friend said. Enjoy.

Great news. Thanks for the updates. Any good news on the Warbirds front? Or is that too much to ask?

Miami Valley is owned by the same owner of the Steubenville Stampede. Just a little late in getting it acquired and setup apparantly. But very much hands on to make minor league sports a success.

I've heard all sorts of good things about this new owner... (except a name). But I have a hard time reconciling his good reputation with the fact that he hired the Internet Radio Goon as his head coach in Steubenville.

Was he on drugs?

Haines made that hire.

Things must be good now with the Silverbacks. I saw a commercial on TV for them yesterday.

Yeah, that was Haines who hired Terry.

The new owner is Jeff Kolaczkowski. Ed, his brother, is president of the Stampede, apparantly Jeff will operate Miami Valley.

The team is doing fine and they leave tomorrow to play Syracuse. By the way anyone know if a radio station is carrying the game? With the website being down I can't find any information.

Jamie, I was at the AIFL opener for the Stampede. There is no doubt in my mind on which has the upper hand. The AIFL is head-and-shoulders above the NIFL. The NIFL is low budget without knowing how to be low budget. The biggest killers of the NIFL is travel. There is no reason why teams from Florida would have to play midwestern teams in the regular season or anything comparative.

The Stampede's will make seven road trips; three to Pennsylvania, one to eastern New York, one down the river in West Virginia, and two within Ohio. The league can survive and thrive on the money they bring in. Cost-effectiveness was the term used in the NIFL a long time ago, and they've failed that. The AIFL lives by it.

Over 4,000 came out in Steubenville in a town of 19,000 and a general area of about 100,000 people. The league just has to know their markets, and not to outprice them or overburden them. Keeping the individual regions seperate is a big key in that.

One which the NIFL will never know because they cannot comprehend 'establishing' a region and playing those regions as seperate subsets of the league. Instead you will always have cross-divisional play and huge issues with teams failing taking out the entire league schedule, and travel budgets eating up every cent imaginable.

The AIFL can exist on 1,500-2,000 fans a game with nominal sponsorship, merchandise, and concessions (varying by arena or lease). Steubenville has about a quarter of the arena priced at $5.

It's inexpensive, it's there, and doesn't overinflate its own value. It's for market that can't sustain the AF2 or UIF, and a hugely more favorable alternative than the NIFL (I can't comment on the IFL or the new GLIFL yet).

Syk, don't let the negativity get to you. Everything has its good and bads, and we're put here to make the people around us better.

How is the Rampage doing these days? AF1 appears to have forgotten about you.

How Do You Think The Heroes Will Do Against Miami Valley? We Have The Big Ten Players And They Are Just Midmajors.

I Don't Think Huntington Has ****. Who Is Marshall Anyways?

A lot of MV's team played together last year with the Dayton Warbirds in the NIFL, including the coach. For this game, Huntington's going with a QB who stunk it up in Lubbock last year, but the rest of the team has some playing together with the Marshall connections.

I'd go with the more experienced indoor team.

Well sometimes you have to take a lose to get players to heal up. Not making excuses but there were a few injuries. However thars only one lose. Abye week will surely be very nice.
