Thunder postpones home ABA games against Hardaway's Pit Bulls

Cross out next week’s date with the King of the Cross-over.

The Lincoln Thunder has postponed its American Basketball Association games against the Florida Pit Bulls scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday at the Pershing Center.

The Pit Bulls feature former NBA star Tim Hardaway, a player/owner/coach for the South Florida squad. His famous cross-over dribble helped him become a five-time all-star during a 14-year NBA career that ended in 2003.

The Pit Bulls’ Web site had the Lincoln games on their schedule earlier this week, but they had been taken off by Friday.

“It’s not going to happen on Jan. 10 and 11,’’ said Thunder owner Michael Jefferson, whose 4-2 team has not played since Dec. 29, when it lost 138-129 to the top-ranked ABA squad, Indiana.

“We just couldn’t make the travel arrangements work for them. The time frame was just too tight.’’

The Thunder has played just two games since Dec. 1. The George Gervin Division dissolved after teams in Kansas City, St. Louis and Texas ceased operations this season, leaving Lincoln scrambling to complete its 36-game schedule.

Currently Lincoln has no games scheduled, although Jefferson says several teams have expressed interest in playing home-and-home contests with the Thunder.

Should have stuck with the IBL like they originally planned.
