This may be a stupid question but..... does anyone know if the Canadain Baseball League is officially dead yet, or are they still sticking to the "reorganize for '04" story? I read somewhere that they sold off the league assets "garage sale" fashion. If that's true, I guess my question is answered.

Yeah, its dead. They actually auctioned off all the assets a couple of months back. Apparently there is an entirely separate group trying to organize a Western Canadian Baseball League for 2005. The Northern League's interest in Calgary appears to be waning due to the travel distance so if Calgary becomes the cornestone of a WCBL, who knows? It might succeed where its predecessor failed.

Regionalizing the CBL is a good first step. Travelling the length of a continent cannot have helped the CBL's finances.

Thanks, thats what I thought.

I made it to the London Monarchs second to last game (I learned that it was the last weekend only after getting to the game). The guard at the Port Huron-Sarnia border didn't believe me at first that I was going to the game. I had to show her the schedule and directions to the stadium before she would let me cross into Canada. I said to her "I'm probably the only person crossing to border going to the game today." Her response: "You're probably the only person in London going to the game!" She was almost right. There were probably 500 or so fans at the game. The start time was pushed back more than an hour. At the gate they told me it was because the visiting team was running late gettin in. The story didn't make sense as the same 2 teams played in London the day before. I leaned from an usher that the real reason was that they were hoping more people would show up if waited long enough. It's too bad the stadium will go unused. It was really nice, on par with most modern AA parks I've seen.

Maybe I'm bad luck for minor league teams. My only minor league sporting event to attend since was a Columbus Stars UHL hockey game on 12/26. Yesterday they folded! I have tickets to a Toledo Storm game later this month. If they fold anytime soon, I'll deny any responsibility!
