Hi folks. This ABA news item/mention was in the Philadelphia Daily News today [1/8]:

"Former NBA bad boy Dennis Rodman, we learned, will make his ABA debut Jan. 28 in Philly against the new Philly (formerly Jersey) Squires.

The Squires will play their first game in their new home Sunday against Joe Bryant's Las Vegas Rattlers at noon at St. Joe's Fieldhouse. Master P and AND 1 Tour stars "Helicopter" and "Spyder" play for the Rattlers. The Squires hope to play home games at St. Joe's and/or Villanova's Jake Nevin Fieldhouse."

The troubled Trenton/Asbury Park/Jersey/New Jersey Squires appear to be still active in the below-the-radar ABA and will now play as the Philly Squires.

Anybody know "Helicopter" or "Spyder"? I know Master P is rapper Percy Miller. Anybody know who is on the Squires? Anybody gonna go see this game?

I thought Rodman's debut was going to be the 16th at home. And that it was unlikely he'd play in road games.

But, then again, first they said he was going to start practicing after Christmas, then after New Year's, and now the latest I heard is Saturday the 10th. As if Dennis likes practicing anyway.

And where the Squires play isn't their biggest problem. Their owner is their biggest problem.

Since the Jam have invited the media to attend the end of Saturday's practice and promised that ALL Jam players will be available for interviews afterward, I expect that Rodman will practice tomorrow. All reports I have seen, other that the one from Philly, say that Rodman will play on the 16th. Other than some mentions here, I have not seen or heard anything about Rodman not playing on the road. In my opinion, if he is really serious about getting back to the NBA, he has to play road games also.

The only player that i know on Vegas is Jon Jones. As for Jersey/Phili, the main man is Cleotis brown. Other notable players are Chauncy Jones and Obidah Harris. Plus, Former UPBL standout Quiande Moore will be joining the team tomorrow.

For some reason, I thought the original reports said he was unlikely to play on the road, but the Long Beach paper doesn't keep stuff online for too long, apparently. So you may be right.

We'll see what happens. I'm still skeptical he'll spend much time in the ABA.

And the Squires are a joke without a punchline.
