We are going to get our first Title this year in Fayetteville. Coach Booth has really worked hard to put us a winning team on the ice this year and it is really showing. Kepp up the good work and bring home a title for us

Hmmmm---- Seems to me that there are a couple of other teams that might have something to say about the outcome of this season. What's the old saying about counting your chickens before they hatch? Are you forgetting Columbus and Knoxville? Nice to see that you are so confident though.

Do you know how much more playoff tickets will be compared to regular season games? We usually get the 8 dollar tickets to save money then move down....
#1 Guard Fan
02-08-2006, 07:13 AM
They are only a couple of dollars more than the regular games. Not a big mark up. $8 dollar seats???? Where do you get $8 seats at. I get upper seats with a military discount and they are still $10
Mike4FireAntz34
02-08-2006, 08:29 PM
Oh when I go to the games i ask for the cheapest ticket and on the ticket it says $8.00 dollars
Mike4FireAntz34
02-08-2006, 10:29 PM
Hey #1 Guard Fan who was last years Champions?
#1 Guard Fan
02-09-2006, 07:28 AM
It says $8 on it but you are paying the crown fee to which is like $3 too. Columbus is the Champ from last year. They played the underdog the whole playoffs and came out on top
Mike4FireAntz34
02-09-2006, 08:22 PM
yeah I know it says $3 on the event fee... but It is worth to pay the $3 event fee to see our FireAntz play!!!!! :D

No reason to hate about not having any discount nights. I am glad you can draw crouds like you do but try leaving were the main people are MILITARY. It is not an easy sell here to many deployments and people are always coming and going. Little bit harder to build a TRUE fan base. We make due with what we have and I think they are doing a good job of it

Yes what another big win last night. I see where Collions got in the mix again last night. Th only part that stinks about the rest of the year is we need help from other teams for us to be able to move up and try and catch Col. I think we will end up 3 with the first playoff game being 24 March.

We are buying our tickets tommorow ....hopefully we can get 7,000-8,000 people packed in....heck I'd like to have a sell out crowd....but If we could beat Florida in the first round and Huntsville upsets the Cottonmouths and we beat the Havoc in round 2....I think it would take us to get the the Finals to sell out for a game or 2 :D

7000-8000 would be great but I have never heard of any sports in Fayetteville having that kinda crowd. even when we had $2 ticket night would could not sell the place out. I have never understood this town but at least we have finally gottena good solid fan base
Mike4FireAntz34
03-20-2006, 09:23 PM
Well that is b/c they sold 25 tickets for $2 ....if they would have sold each ticket individualy then we would have had an Sell out....maybe we will sell out if we get to the finals!!! :D

#1 Guard Fan
03-20-2006, 10:30 PM
I think that if any team could pull a sell-out off it would be the Fireantz but it would have to be some kinda special deal. I think the people in this town are to cheap to pay the $15 a ticket to sell that big arena out. I think that the Crown is way to big for Fayetteville. Thats just me as a person not from here
Mike4FireAntz34
03-21-2006, 11:17 PM
We bought our tickets today...we are in Section 105 again...Row G this time...Im thinking about buying season tickets in Section 105 next season...It is really fun to be behind our teams bench....so have you bought your tickets yet? Try to bring as many people to the game as you can so we can pack the house....I have a feeling we will get over 8,500 fans packed in the Crown for this playoff game...I can't wait for the game!!!!!

There is 2 Stands....one right when you walk in that has the Autograph'd hockey sticks and Chuck-a-puck ...or is it the other table?...when you buy a jersey do you get it their or do they have to order it and send it to you?
#1 Guard Fan
03-22-2006, 05:16 PM
Right when you walk in the door. They have them on hand unless you need like some crazy size. Then you can take it down to the Tropy House on Bragg Blvd and get your name and number added
Mike4FireAntz34
03-22-2006, 05:20 PM
So they don't come with the players names and #'s on them?
#1 Guard Fan
03-22-2006, 05:22 PM
No they only way you can get one of those is after they have special promo night they sell them. I think last year after the season was over they sold the regular player ones
Mike4FireAntz34
03-22-2006, 05:57 PM

Mike4FireAntz34
03-22-2006, 06:39 PM
do they sell all the Jersey's he has worn over the whole season ,white, black, and red? or just the last home game Jersey....how much do they sell it for... sorry for all the questions...i just have never bought a jersey before ....
#1 Guard Fan
03-22-2006, 06:44 PM
Normally they will sell both the black and white ones. The red ones have been sold a while back. They normally go any where from $500-$800 for his. I think it is crazy for someone to pay that much but hey I guess it shows they are a true fan or really crazy one
Mike4FireAntz34
03-22-2006, 06:47 PM

http://thesphl.com.ismmedia.com/ISM2/NewsManager/399.jpeg.300.jpeg
March 22, 2006 - [FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) yesterday, had two players recognized by the coaches and writers of the SPHL. Defenseman Mike Clarke and forward Dean Jackson were both named to All-SPHL teams.
Clarke, a native of Toronto, Ontario, was named to the First-Team All-SPHL. The defenseman tallied nine goals and 58 assists. His 67 points ranked him second on the club and ninth in the SPHL. Clarke also was a +22 for the season. He was also named Sherwood Player of the Week, in the SPHL, for the week of November 21st-27th.
Jackson, who also hails from Toronto, Ontario, was named to the Second-Team All-SPHL. The left-winger netted a team-high 76 points on 32 goals and 44 assists. He was tied for 5th in the SPHL in scoring with Jason Bermingham of the Knoxville Ice Bears. Jackson was also the inaugural SPHL Player of the Month from October 21st through November 26th.
The FireAntz quest for the President’s Cup begins this Friday as the FireAntz travel to Florida to take on the Seals. Their first home game of the 2005-06 playoffs is Saturday, March 25th at 7:35pm.

CLARKE NAMED SPHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE YEAR
[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Mike Clarke was named SPHL Defenseman of the Year. The news comes one day after Clarke was named to the First-Team All-SPHL Defense corps.
Mike has excelled with the FireAntz this season, logging a ton of ice time. Head Coach Derek Booth said, I think he is well deserving of this award. Few defensemen can do the things that Mike Clarke does and the FireAntz are lucky to have him.
Clarke, a native of Toronto, Ontario, was the leading scorer among defensemen in the SPHL. Clarke tallied nine goals and 58 assists. His 67 points ranked him second on the club and ninth, overall, in the SPHL. Clarke also was a +22 for the season.
"I've gotten a great opportunity to get a lot of ice time this season." Mike Clarke added, "Being an offensive defenseman I have to rely on my teammates and this award is a direct reflection on them."
Hopefully all the guys will continue playing great and we will go far in the playoffs, if not win the cup!

We usually stand in Row A after the game and get the Basketball players autograph's do you think its possible to get the FireAntz Autograph? I have printed out 3 Pictures of the FireAntz ,2 of Fournier and 1 of Mike Clarke.

The Seals have a really small arena compaired to the Crown. I am not sure about the other teams but I would be willing to bet we have one of the nicer arenas in the SPHL
From alot of game pictures from the other sites we have the nicest arena in the league...the others look 15-20 years old.

They have where you can meet the players all the time but I am not sure I have never seen them sign anything during the game. I am sure you could get your items signed if you go there before the game during warm-ups. I know a lot of times when we go in really early some of the players are out in the stands

I Talk To Myself
03-26-2006, 01:13 PM
I have been enjoying perusing the threads and posts and I would like to throw out a thought if I may.
Winning at home, even by a blowout isn't a big deal. Winning games on the ROAD is what will divide the top teams from the others. Right now, Knoxville, Huntsville and Columbus all have road wins. In my eyes those are the three teams to beat. In theory Fayetteville can join them by picking up a win in Florida, but that will be a difficult trick in spite of the blowout win last night. If Huntsville manages to knock off Columbus IN Columbus tuesday night they are looking like the team to beat, as not many people thought Columbus would drop a home game. Winning two would make Huntsville the current favorite. I can't really credit Knoxville for a lot by blowing out Pee Dee in Florence. Join the club. Pee Dee's defense is terrible and they have no prayer of beating Knoxville twice in Knoxville.
I suppose the all powerful PLAYOFF MOMENTUM will be decided Tuesday night. I myself, being a marginal anarchist am cheering for the three underdogs in the three series.
Just my 2 cents worth.
1.3 cents after taxes.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) defeated the Florida Seals 8-1 Saturday Night to force the deciding game in the best-of-three series. The victory was the first playoff win in franchise history. The Seals won game one, 2-1. Game three will be in Florida on Tuesday at 7:35 pm.
The FireAntz came out blazing in the 1st period as Rob Meanchoff netted his first of the playoffs just 3:11 into the game. George Nistas followed with his first of four goals on the night at 5:24. Kory Baker, who had four assists in the game, had helpers on both goals. Justin Keller cut the lead in half with a slapshot from the blue line at the 15:42 mark.
The FireAntz extended the lead in the 2nd period on goals from Nistas and Nick Kormanyos. In the 3rd frame, the club didnt let up. Three consecutive power play goals by Nistas (2) and Dean Jackson and a goal by Scott Corbett provided the final scoring of the evening.
The FireAntz were successful on four of six power play opportunities while the Seals didnt score on either of their power play chances. Chad Collins turned aside 38 of 39 shots and Terry Denike gave up all eight of the FireAntz goals while stopping 28 shots.
FireAntz Notes
Kory Baker leads the SPHL playoffs in points with 5 (1G, 4A) and plus/minus with a +5
George Nistas leads the SPHL playoffs in goal with 4
Chad Collins leads the SPHL playoffs with a 1.51 goals against average and a .958 save percentage
Game three, the deciding game of the series, will be played in Florida on Tuesday at 7:35 pm. Fans may follow the action live on pointstreak.com. They may also listen to the game on ESPNFlorida.com, by clicking on Listen Live in Orlando. For a small fee, fans may watch the game, live, at livesportsnetwork.com/SPHL.

We would like our seats to be closer to the ice, but they aren't too bad. Where we sit we have an incredible view of the visitors net. We see every goal. We have trouble seeing the fights in the one corner by the home goal. Luckily for us our two rowdy boys, Katzberg and Rivard, like to fight at center ice.
I've read some articles that the guys on the team don't like the locker rooms at all. I've had a friend that played in a hockey tournament at the SSA and he said that the arena is too hot and the ice kept melting.
I think that the arena is a little too wide and still too big for this kind of hockey, but hey, what do I know. Just glad to have hockey back in Central Florida.
I hope that you have fun listening to the game tonight.

Don't be so bitter. Collins played his ass off, he just gave up one rebound to the Rookie of the Year.
Why the attendance jab again? 1246 is a true number and not actually too bad for a Tues night game. Every team in this league struggles with attendance, especially during the week. Were you there? That place sounded like 12,000 when Sichy put the rebound over Collins' shoulder.

Actually the song is called, "Animals."
I for one am very, very proud of the Fayetteville FireAntz. I recently became a hockey fan after attending my first game in Fayetteville when the FireAntz played Florida and lost in February. I was totally hooked after that night and attended every game since. They played an absolute great last home game and gave the fans that night a show to remember. I would not call or say "we suck again" at least they did not lose at home. I can not say anything bad about the team or coaching staff. Besides, if you can do any better, then you need to be on the ice come next season.
I could only wish that we retain the same players next year. Those guys are the best!

Ok newbie it was called a joke settle down a little bit. Yes the Antz did good but even coach Booth said in the paper today that the season was a let down after how they had started. I am not sure how many of the core players will be back next season because a lot of them are looking to move on(aka The next level). The paper even stated that Coach Booth was still up in the air about next year. So unless you are working for the team looks like we will all have to wait and see. Oh by the way maybe next year you could show up before the season was over

Newbie or not, why can't we all be on the same side? Even those who pull for different teams? I don't get it......I mean yeah, everyone gets a little excited and they talk big, then the winners talk more crap to the losers.....but why does it have to be like that? Yea, we lost.....woopdeedoo.....It was the worst possible end to an even harder season, but it was a good strong season. I admit it could've been worse (I.E. Jacksonville's season), but it was a good season, something to be proud of (and when the sting of that hard loss is gone Booth will remember this and think it too). Why do we have to turn on each other? Why can't we just be happy that there are more FireAntz Fans on here supporting the team? No matter how late in the season they came in....does that even matter? We are all here for the same reason (Fayetteville fans, Florida, Knoxville, etc) The love of hockey.......so why don't we show it and not argue (fight, joke, or how ever you wanna put it) about stupid stuff....the season is over now and nothing we do, no arguements we have with other people on here (FireAntz fans or not) will change it.

I agree, everyone should get along, newbie and the oldies. Being a newbie, I know I don't know everything about hockey, it just gets me down whenever someone downs the team. Yes I read what Booth had to say in the paper as well. But you can not win them all. I understand they had a tough season with injuries and all. But next year will be better and I'm ready for it to start!
Yes I did come in late in the season, but what can I say.....never knew I would like or should I say love hockey this much. My husband is already sick of hearing me talk about it. lol

I went last night. I had a good time, there were at least 13 guys still in town that were there, plus the coach. (there may have been 2 more but I haven't been around them enough to recognize them in a casual setting.) A few said they would like to come back, and some may even be sticking around--Guard and Swampdogs fans, keep your eyes open, you might run into a hockey player or two. There were also a couple that mentioned they might not play next year at all. For some it is just time to grow up and get a real job with a stable income, they realize that they are not going to play much higher than this league. Coach did mention that his contract is up in a couple of weeks, so we will see what they do to keep him here. Brett will probably write something up once the deal is done. Hopefully, he can work out an agreement with McNaught, both Derek and his wife, Brenda, like the area and wouldn't mind staying. And lets be realistic, he is the best coach the Antz have ever had. This is the best group of guys that have ever dressed in Antz sweaters and it is because of his recruiting--as well as having his players help him recruit others, too. (okay, they are also the most fragile group of eggshells to take the ice, with someone getting hurt all the time, but they were still good.)
Dont really know how he will be able to keep a lot of these guys because of the salary cap--you can't expect them all to come back for the same amount they got this year. Also because of the vet limit. I think we had about 3-4 that have crossed into vet status since last year and some of those will have to go.
There is only one player the I can say with any certainty that he will not be back next year. He was not at the party last night, as he had already left. I don't know the details of what happened, but I am pretty sure that he left on bad terms, simply left. I am not going to name names on here, but anyone with any insight to the team will know who I am talking about.
It didn't really hit me last night until I was driving home, and then I got kind of sad, that I had probably just said goodbye to some of them possiby for good. And then today we cleaned out 2 of the apts from some of the ones that had already left. A few of the ones that were still here helped us, so we got a chance to talk to them briefly again. The ones that are not staying here should be out of town be Wednesday--except maybe the ones waiting around for medical reasons--but all the apts will be vacated and cleaned out by Thursday. Another BC member said today that this is the saddest day of the season for her, packing them up and clearing them out.
Well, the Antz season is over, and hopefully, even if we can't get most of the same players, if we can get Derek back behind the bench, we will most likely have a competitive team. I trust the decisions he made in the past and they usually worked out pretty well for us.
Now it is time to cheer on the Guard and later in the summer, the Swampdogs.
Sorry about the long post. Just my thoughts and observations on the season and opinions I gathered from talking to them at the party. See you all next fall, if not at football/bseball.

No, actually Collins was there, is planning on staying around here this summer and is planning on being here next year. Although I agree with you to an extent about the road games, I can't put all the blame on him. He only allowed 3 goals on the road in the playoffs, but our offense didn't score enough to offset those 3. Our boys scored 8 at home in one game and in the other 2 combined only got 1. The problem goes far beyond Collins when it comes to road games.
As for the new uniforms, I think they should keep these for at least another year. Yeah, the flames are cool, but I like this years look, as well. Keep these and in another year or two, they can change it again. It will help to sell more merchandise--people want the new stuff if they already have the old.
Fournier? Yeah, I wouldn't mind keeping him around. He really improved this year over the last seasons and I feel he played his role quite well. Of course, Ferguson stepped in and took a little of that responsibility away from him, but it never hurts to have 2 solid enforcers.

Just checked the database and of our final roster, we have 4 that are now considered vets. So someone will have to go next year. Those are Troy Linna, Kory Baker, BJ Stephens, and Mike Fournier. Of those, I would have to let BJ go first, then if it came to it, Fournier would be next on my list. The leadership that Baker and Linna provided--on and off the ice--were way too valuable to let either of them go. Linna is considering not playing, so it may not be an issue, but I hope he does. Fournier played well, but I think others might have been more deserving of the C, and if we can keep Ferguson, and if Coulter gets healthy, then his job as enforcer is on shaky ground.

Hum, it is sad. I was unable to go because my son had a baseball game, they were really bummed that they would not be able to attend. I would hate to see Jackson and Kormanyos not return. They are my sons heroes. They even sent bday cards to Stephens and Kormanyos since they have bdays in April like myself.
Well, whatever happens happens.
So GuardFan3 are you on the Booster Club? I was interested in joining next. Can you give me some info on it, if you are?
Thanks.

So in the SPHL you can only keep 2 Vets? ...I really hope we keep atleast Fournier and Jackson...off the Vet list....but couldn't we just waive them then sign them back to the team ?

Mike, the vet limit is 3 so we would only have to let one go if they all wanted to return. If we had sat Mike for 5 games he would have ducked the limit and it wouldn't have been an issue at all. Jackson has exactly one more year. If he sits out one or more games, next year, he can come back as a non-vet the year after. And no, we couldnt waive them and then sign them back. BJ came into our team this year as a vet, but only barely, he had 229 games when he joined us. If he had come to us with only 223, he would not have been considered a vet. So the way I understand it, if they join us with 223 or fewer, then they are a non-vet for as long as they play. If we release them and then try to sign them back, if they have played 224 or more, they would then be considered a vet.
FAF06 Yes I am a member of the BC. We really had a great year. I became a little more involved this year as I decided to sponsor one of the apts. It meant that I--along with a couple of other members--were the first points of contact if those in that apt needed anything. I enjoyed it and it allows you to get to know the players a little better.
We provided snacks for the bus for road trips, we furnished their apts, had a welcome party, T'giving dinner, Christmas party, and going away party. A couple of times we also provided supply bags, once at the beginning of the season, and again when they had that losing streak in Jan--to boost their spirits and let them know that we were still behind them. We also have a few fundraisers throughout the year to help with some of the expenses.
We have quite a few members but only a handful of active members. We could certainly use the extra hands if you are interested.

I'm interested in joining. I emailed the President last week or this week to get info, but have not heard back. So where does the money come from to help supply these players with snacks and so on. Do this come from the club and fundraisers, or do members pay out of pocket? Contact me at work and I will be happy to do what I can next year. pregister@hutchensandsenter.com.
Thanks! I'm already having hockey w/drawals. lol

cost for the BC is $10 for individuals, or $25 for family of up to 4, with $5 for additional family members.
The snacks and stuff for the bus trips are usually donated by members. For a couple of trips--playoffs especially--there was not time to get enough together, so the BC did supplement the cost, but usually it is donated. The fundraisers usually pay for the locations for the Christmas party and T'giving dinner, the bowling alley for the welcome and end of year parties. T'giving dinner was potluck supplied by members, Christmas was catered, paid out of BC funds. Really it depends on how well the first fundraiser goes. Everything we do is dependent on making that successful.
I appreciate the interest in the BC. I do hope that y'all can join us and make next year even better than this one was.

Depends what you consider a player??? I have played hockey since I was 6 I am very competative probably in the best shape of my life and playing really well now, spending time with some X-CHLer's to be at my best by free agent camp time...if thats all yes I am a player....but I have yet to play one game in the pros I just finished 8 years with the military last year and have decided to take a shot at something for myself. And I always vowed that if I did make to any level of the sport I would want to be as conected to the fans as one can be....I have a pic in my profile its suppose to be my avitar but I cant get it on there.

Well for sure the Fireantz players are really close with the fans. I am glad to hear that you are getting ready for the FA try outs. Maybe you should stop by the Front office or email coach Booth before that time gets here. Just a little idea to put the bug in his ear. I know he will answer your email right back if you take the time and write him.

The team and fan base has gotten stronger over the past two years. Coach Booth is the first ever coach to be signed to a second contract. The fans here are really getting behind the team. It is great to see Hockey alive and well in the South. I think we will have another winning team this year. and hopefully you can be part of it.

I wish the players could be more invloved in things like message boards, but they already are very involved with the fans, so I can't complain. Over the two years I have been an Antz fan I have seen the fan base build as well. I hope it continues to grow. As to your question with attendance, the Antz had an average of 3,684 per game with a total of 103,179 for the season (which was the best in the league) last season.
I hope all goes well for you at the FA camp! :)

Just never forget where you came from. I think some of the guys in sports forget where they came from. It is the fans that really can make or break you as a player

There are a hundred things I could respond with from I agree pro athletes often forget why they are there...to...I agree with you 100%...
But all that really needs to be said is "I wont forget where I came from who I am and most of all I wont forget the fans are as important if not more than I am." and then I will prove it,Hopefully in in Fayetteville,N.C. Me and my family have done some looking into the area and really would like to spend sometime there.

I think Fayetteville gets a bad rap sometimes but overall it has not been a bad place to live. I know I have been in some places that were not as good as here

Good house prices, cost of living isnt too high comparatively, traveling can be done where you dont have to go too far but can do alot of things....the rest is what you make of it...there is hockey so it cant be all that bad and seems to be a great turn out as far as fans. We have a CHL team here and I dont think it as a turn out like Fayetteville.
