No owner, no venue, but by golly, they got a team. Probably no money either.
From the article:
"The league expects to add at least 12 expansion teams next season, Newman said, including in Ventura, Chicago, Providence and Orlando. A team in Arizona is close to forming as well, he said."

With the two or three surviving teams this year probably jumping to other leagues and at least two or three of the new teams that don't start the season, that leaves about nine or 10 teams for next year.

This will be San Diego's fourth ABA team and eighth pro basketball franchise.

So, uh, I think there is such a thing as San Diego can't support a professional basketball team.

San Diego can't handle a professional basketball team. They can probably handle an ABA team, which is only professional when it comes to the level of play.
