Please say it isn't so! ABA expansion talk already!!! And the worst part of all is that Joe seems to be running things again. Hang on to your wallets folks.
ABA TO ANNOUNCE FIRST 2004 EXPANSION FRANCHISES IN JANUARY Professional Basketball League to Increase Dramatically
05-JAN-2004 - Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, Co-Founder of the ABA and Chairman of the ABA Executive Committee today announced that the league will be officially announcing its first expansion franchises later this month. According to Newman, "We have had over 40 inquiries from the US, Mexico and Canada about teams for next season. Thus far, four have committed to play next season and are preparing to make announcements locally prior to leaguewide release." --- Newman failed to say that of the 40 inquiries, 39 were accounts past due and the 40th was his mother wishing him Happy New Year.
Newman continued, "It is our goal to have three divisions (red, white and blue) in the ABA next season. Our business model is proving itself to be attractive and workable - and as a result, many prospects for teams have surfaced and are moving rapidly towards completion of the application and award process." ---How is this a workable business model??? Substantial flight costs, "announced" attendances at most games in the range of about 500, multiple changes of venues and coaching staffs. Joe's spinning again.
For more information about owning an ABA team, go to the Franchise Information page on the website. ---If it takes a long time for the page to load, try again later when not as many people are rushing to that page.
