I'm going to guess they lose 6 teams before the New Year and about 22 complete the season. Whatever "complete the season" means.

My guess is about 10 to 12 don't even start the season.

Honestly, what I think should be done is to have one member take all 47 teams and load their schedules into a calendar. Then each day, anybody who either lives near an ABA city or has access to newspapers in ABA towns, load the boxscore in. A printed boxscore in a newspaper is proof that the game has been played and somebody cared enough to watch the game to put a score in the paper.
Then, if teams disappear - move - rename - fade away, we have a complete record of what happened to the ABA2005-06 season. Right now they've got 47 teams (apparently Louie Dampier wasn't a strong enough ABA player, he doesn't have a division any more). Let's see how many actually do finish the season, if at all.
Besides, I'm curious as to what the "official" ABA2000 stats will be, as opposed to those printed in the paper. I say this because that old "ABA continues to crumble" thread that was part of this board is for the 2004-05 season, but at times it was hard to figure out who was playing and who was not, and who moved and who renamed and whatever.
Okay? Fair enough?

FORTY-SEVEN teams? This is nuts! What's next, a Skip Thoren Division? Sorry, but I can't even begin to take this league seriously. P.T. Barnum was right.

...because I'm silly enough to look at this...
The ABA lists Beijing Aoshen Olympian and Maywood Laguneros (which is supposed to be the Hispanized remnants of Long Beach) as separate teams, but the schedule shows Beijing and not Maywood. Meanwhile, there is an ABA release mentioning Aoshen Olympian in Maywood. Are they Chinese or Latino? Cuuuute...
...and what exactly was the deadline for admitting teams into the league? I thought Joe set something in stone back during summer.
Someone forgot to remove Juarez and Orlando from the 2005-06 directory.
"Cleveland" on the directory is Lake Erie in the schedule. "Strong Island" on the directory is Long Island in the schedule.
Silly me to suggest that a professional organization remembers the names of their teams and where their teams are. Ain't I a sick puppy?

Why can't anything be done to legally stop Newman and the ABA from wasting their time, money, effort, etc year after year? Each and every year features folding teams, shifting venues, tiny crowds, a shortened season, and more excuses from Newman and the others about why they failed and why this year is going to be different.
I'm getting sick of this bulls**t. Somebody needs to call the police, an attorney, or somebody that can legally stop Joe from doing this all over again. Doesn't Joe have family that can go to a court and have him declared legally incompetent to handle his own affairs? Seriously, something drastic needs to happen to stop this.
You don't start a season w/ 47 teams. They couldn't handle things with 8 teams, so why in the world does he think 47 teams will be any easier?
Heaven Almighty, the stupidity these people exhibit just boggles my mind.

Just for giggles, I went to all the websites of ABA2000 teams listed as links to the ABA website. Here's what I was able to find - and I'm not posting the teams' entire schedule, just what is available to the average websearcher:

So of the 47 teams scheduled to start the season in late October, 14 of them have their full 35 or 36 game schedule online and available for season ticket holders to plan for and arrange. None of these schedules are currently at abalive.com; I had to click through all the websites listed as clickable links from the site. Now maybe I can piece together a rudimentary schedule based on whether team X who only has their home games listed against team Y who has only their road games listed... but this is the ABA2000 2005-2006 schedule, not a frickin' game of Sudoku. Why should I do Unca Joe's work for him?
And in the end... there you go.

Just a hunch, but I'll bet the teams with no web sites are the ones who don't start the season or fold quickly.
Also, about this supposed team from Bejing. Don't mess with the Chineese or they will shoot you and sell your kidneys to westerners.

I agree with JACKMAN, what is this imbecile thinking. Is he serious??? Hawaii? Teams can barely afford to take a Greyhound across town and stay at Rick's Motor Inn, 4 to a rom for a night. How in all that is holy can they afford to fly to Hawaii (or vice versa) and play??????????????????Idiocy is not all that bad, I am a full fledged idiot and I turned out all right SAM HILL, OSC blowhard

First off, directly from the current ABA website, under "Today's Games"...
The 2004-2005 season has ended. Information about the 2005-2006 season will be posted frequently throughout the coming months.
Now, I found the schedule by accident yesterday. The schedule page out front leads to a sort of gibberish. However, clicking on one of their team "sub-sites" like, say...
http://www.abalive.com/teams/teampage.cgi?teamid=CN
(Yeah, Beijing. ROAD TRIP!)
In the "schedule" box, right above where they're supposed to show the next three games and don't, there's a link to the "full schedule."
Problem: YESTERDAY, it was there. Now it's the same gibberish that you get on the front schedule link. What the fork? OK, 10 days before the start of the season, and they had to squash a state secret or something? Did they decide to follow Homeland Security guidelines because they fear an attack or something?

I livein Richmond and I can honestly say I haven't heard the first peep about this team. Not one word ANYWHERE. And I have been looking.

Still waiting to hear exactly what I'm wrong about. But it's easier to just bash me, I guess, without backing it up.
