View Full Version : RIP: The Trenton Devils

Can't say I'm surprised...this once proud hockey franchise blew it when they affiliated with the Devils. In brief, most of the fans that turned out for the Trenton Titans were Flyers fans. Once Trenton went with the "North Jersey Devils" a lot of Trenton's most avid supporters lost interest...
As an unaffiliated team, Trenton was able to sign anybody they wanted and produced competitive hockey teams. The place was packed on a routine basis. The "North Jersey" Devils couldn't care less about making Trenton competitive. For Lou Lamoriello it was strictly a development squad.
Anybody remember the G-O-A-L fans? Scott Bertoli's number hangs from the rafters, wonder if the arena will take it down after Trenton loses its team?
Who knows...maybe, the team will relocate to Atlantic City

Really disappointing to see. It really looks as if the New Jersey Devils treated not only the Trenton fans poorly, but the entire ECHL as well with the late notice.

The ECHL still lists a Trenton team on their teams list...plus the trademark for "Trenton Titans" was just renewed....
I think the news could be good for you in the long run, ACsurfan... :)

The Flyers have expressed in interest in affiliation with a new Trenton team, see here:

Incredibly, Trenton has been a bit of a good run with hockey. I swore it would not work because Trenton was very............whats the word.........well, the fan base is more focused on basketball than hockey. The urban population is more a hip-hop culture than a northern game on ice......but, they did a great job. Trenton turned out and it was a success.
Sadly it hasn't worked out, and I agree with PReeths sentiment about the NJ Devils leaving the league in the lurch. The Flyers are much closer and most people in Trenton would consider themselves far closer to Philly than NY/NJ.

I still think this is all just a ruse for the RETURN OF THE TITANS...after all, the ECHL kept Trenton on its "current teams" list...

There is a group of investors interested in bringing the Trenton Titans back to Trenton. They are looking for 300-500 people who are willing to commit to a $25.00 deposit for Season Tickets for the 2011-2012 season. If anyone is interested, check out the "Bring Back the Titans!!" group on Facebook or send me a message and I will put you in touch with someone that can put you on the list.

Does anyone know if the "new" franchise is keeping the Titans/Devils history? The original ECHL press release said that the franchise had "suspended operations," indicating that a new owner would take it over. However, the most recent one (posted above) said that the old membership was turned in and a new one approved for the new owners. So are they a new franchise, or an extension of the old one?
