UIF Rockford to be "Rock River Raptors". Terrible!

Could it get any worse?? I hope that name becomes extinct before the season starts. Owner of the team formerly known as TN Valley Raptors, Art Clarkson, had stated he would have a name the team contest due to the Rockford Raptors soccer team. They talked and compromised. Sucks for us.

We had started a name the team thread on the Rockford Register Star forums site. www.RRstar.com/forums (local national sports)

I like Romans or Legions. RedBulls would have been good as would Polar Bears, Black Bears, Pumas, Grimreapers, Vampires, Forestcats, Stonecats, Blacksmiths, or any other name not called Raptors. I hate Raptors as a team nickname and with Rock River added it is worse.

It almost sounds like a disease you may catch, while travelling through a third world country. Hopefully they wise-up and remedy the situation. Why is it you never heard the word raptor, and then Jurassic park comes out and everything is a raptor?!!! The "Toronto Raptors", even cedar point named a new roller coaster at the time "the raptor". The sad part is that Rockford is several years behind this tacky trend. Why can't they use something a little more relavent to the region? Is it really that hard to show a bit of creativity along with pride and history?

They should name the team the Rockford Metros in honor of the first team in Arena Football history.
