Mandy, we dont really discuss nuances and approaches to games on these boards. OSC tends to deal more directly with the daily business and organizational happenings of teams, leagues, and sports. For what its worth though my girlfriend is from Japan and she and all her friends play badminton. I love playing the game, it is very easy to pick up, and if you get a chance it is great to watch on tv.
The best bet for you and you friends is to purchase a cheap badminton set at walmart and begin playing the sport amongst yourselves in the summer. The usa badminton website will offer complete rules and procedures. During the winter or on rainy days you can play indoors if you know a place that has indoor leagues. If not find a club that routinely has walleyball. A raquetball court with a volleyball net is roughly analogous to the real thing so it will suffice if nothing else is available. I hope this is helpful.
