Off the cuff, I saw a team with momentum continue to move forward, and I saw two teams that should have determined a clearcut victor defer that decision to their next meeting.
Hamilton Ticats are certainly exploiting their winning ways after finally cracking that goose egg over Winnepeg's head two weeks ago. Toronto got in the way of a team that has tasted victory and finds itself hungry for more. Tenacious when they needed to be, cautious at other times, they managed to add another to the win column.
Another team that managed to add another to their win column was Edmonton. Ricky Ray looked phenomenal during the first half, completing short strikes and striding down the field for score after score. But something happened to break down that offense; perhaps a mental lapse or a motivational snap that allowed Calgary to come within a horsehair's breadth of winning.
But wait, speaking of mental lapses, how does a coach send in an option play less than 4 yards from a touchdown, with less than 3 minutes to play, that will tie a game that they can win? I dunno, ask Coach Higgins of the Stampeders. A most dangerous option quarterback, Burris, was relegated to hand off the ball to a back with no scat. If not for a pass interference call, they wouldn't have had a second chance at being goal-to-go on the 2 yard line. Oh, wait, they screwed that up, too.
Let's see who brings their true A-game to Friday's repeat matchup, eh?
