Hey everyone....I would really like to see this post filled with great messages with the USBL. Any news? Let us know!
Blake :P
Being involved in the USBL the last four years, I believe I know a little bit about which franchises are committed to putting a quality team on the floor year-in/year-out. I believe that the 2004 Pre-Season Favorites are the Oklahoma Storm in the Mid-West and Pennsylvania in the East.
Although Dodge City won the championship in 2003, they LOST the biggest piece of the puzzle, Tom Nelson. He has proven that he can bring championship-caliber talent and mix it with good community relations and make it a winner. He will improve ticket and corporate sales in Enid and will bring a championship back to Enid.
Pennsylvania is my choice in the East for many reasons, but the main reason is that Sam Unera will pay for the best talent he can get, but as usual (except for 2001) they will be unable to mix the talent together successfully.

I used to also be involved with the USBL. I was the assistant general manager of the Palm Beach Stingrays from 1991-1993. The league has surely come a very long way since those days. However I do know that there are some teams that are on the bubble for 2004. I was wondering since you have your "in", would you be able to tell me what is going on with some of the weaker franchises. St. Joseph, Brooklyn, Dodge City, Kansas...what are the deals with these guys?
Thanks
Blake

is the usbl looking into an western (pacific/mountain time zone)division?
As far as "what is going on with" Dodge City....
A local TV station here in Wichita announced that the "owners" of the Legend have reconciled their differences and the team will return for 2004.... That announcement is supposed to be coming on Monday...
That of course after it was reported that they would not be back...
I don't think averaging 1400 fans a game is bad for a town of less than 20,000 people...

The Cagerz will be back.
Only "news" is they hiring of a new marketing person. I'm blanking on the name, but it is a woman whom I believe has a degree in sports marketing.
They are looking for an experienced assistant coach.
Other than that, it's pretty quiet.
Is Francis Flax coming back to coach? What kind of criteria are they looking for in the assistant coach?

Not to be critical ... but I guess I will be ... based on who I heard they hired they just wanted somebody to warm the seat next to Flax.
My guess ... no, my hope ... is that they are looking for a THIRD assistant.

I have also heard that the Dodge City Legend are coming back. Losing Tom was a big blow to that team but the Oklahoma Storm's gain. I see them being very strong this season. Kansas is coming back but I have always thought they were on shaky ground.
I am interested in finding out what the status of Brooklyn, Brevard and Texas?
Thanks,
Blake
What I've heard:
Brevard is done. But there will be a new team in South Carolina.
Texas remains iffy, BUT St. Louis is returning.
And I believe I heard something about a new team in NY, not sure on tht one though.
Dodge City is back as is Kansas.

Brevard out? Wow...that is the first I have heard about this. A new team in New York? I thought that they already have the Adrionak Wildcats and the Brooklyn Kings. Is this going to be a third team or are one of these teams going in the dark?
So, St. Joseph Express is coming back and Texas is iffy...interesting landscape the usbl is going to look in 2004.

St. Louis -- not St. Joe -- is reportedly coming back.
Of course, this is December and things in the USBL will be in flux up until the start of the season.
I keep drawing a blank on the details of what I heard about the NY team. I want to say it is a third team.
Brevard spent the entire last season in a financial hole. I know a couple stories that would shock you -- unless you follow minor league hoops, then you'd just giggle.

So what is going on with the Dawgs? I've left three messages - no response...
I've considered advertising with them - but with their response time - forget it...
They haven't even contacted the stadium where they've played since they became the Dawgs...Rumor has it they are moving to a highschool stadium...
Is this the beginning of the end? I hope not, I've been a season ticket holder since the beginning and missed maybe 5 games...
If anyone has ANY information, please let me know...
Thanks
