Where did you get this info from? I haven't seen anywhere that the CBA is expanding this big. And where is Broomfield, they have already been awarded a team for th e2006-2007 season.

Whatever this guy has put together, it's not anywhere near an official CBA schedule. Maybe he didn't get the memo that Yakima is now Yakama, and that Great Lakes shut down, it didn't just "fade away" for a season. A lot of what I see in this schedule looks like a mixture of the current CBA and some strong teams from the past (Rapid City, Wichita Falls, etc.). Yeah, and he did forget Bloomfield CO. What's next, is he going to put a CBA together that has the St. Louis Swarm from the IBL? Maybe Trenton and Lake Charles LA can join as well...

Right now, I'm more concerned about the 2005-06 CBA and watching the Patroons win the championship. ;-)

MZ is vainly trying to prove something that doesn't need to be proved... that the CBA is the best minor basketball league out there right now. At least that's my observation.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean they're in any better position to expand than anyone else. In fact, the capital expense is kind of overwhelming compared to, say, the IBL... but summer basketball has its own set of questions. Will the IBL ever be able to build something out of its format?

Worst of all, here we go again dreaming of long lost markets. "Once strong" markets that don't currently have teams do not mean they're more likely to be strong again... it means someone left a crater (philosophically speaking). Dream for the future, not the past.

With the 2006-2007 season approaching, it doesn't look like the CBA will be anything like this. The D-League schedule was released last week so I'd imagine the CBA's will be released soon. Are they still planning to expand to more cities this year? I check the CBA web site about once a day now since the Dakota Wizards moved. I'm guessing the CBA will look something like this:

East
Albany Patroons
Florida Pit Bulls
Indiana Alley Cats
Rockford Lightning

West
Butte Daredevils
Great Falls Explorers
Minot SkyRockets
SoCal Legends
Yakama Sun Kings

Hopefully they'll add a 10th team to even it out. It sucks that the CBA gets a team in Minot the same year that the Wizards leave. The closet rivals they had in the CBA were the FM Beez, but that only lasted a year.

At least that is the rumor.

The Trinity outfit should yield at least one more team.

It won't suck too badly because this version of the CBA is not the same version of the CBA the Dakota Wizards were a member of. You won't miss much. Think about it. It's almost August and the CBA still isn't sure which teams are playing. Therefore, no schedule yet. Very little marketing can be done because of this delay. Very little marketing means very little revenue. Very little revenue means these teams are toast--some are going to be toast before the end of the season.

How much marketing does a team need to do in a city of 30,000 people.
I think word travels very fast in areas like Butte, Great Falls and Minot.
Butte may need the biggest marketing drive because they plan to market the team in three other small towns as well and I read that Apex is only paying $500 per game in rent their first year I see them getting 1,200 people per game to show up in all three of their cities. The team that will be in the hottest water will be Azusa they are 17 hours away from there nearest rival I just can't see them averaging more than 300 per game in attendence in the greater LA market, which has about 6 other minor league basketball teams playing there, they would be better off barnstorming. If any team fails to finish the season it will be the Legends.

How much marketing? Quite a bit I imagine because several basketball minor leagues have failed in Minot. If potential sponsors don't have money trees in their backyards, then they will need time to include basketball related advertising in their budgets. If potential season ticket holders don't grow money trees either, then they will also need time to include basketball in their budgets. What about the B-52 base? Minot is a military town. Military people don't make much money--not much at all. Will THEY have time to work basketball into their budgets?

...but what do I know. I haven't been to any of these CBA towns--not even Anderson, Indiana. Time will tell though.
