Wyoming Cavalry Joins the Indoor Football League (IFL)
(Casper, WY - August 31, 2010) - The Wyoming Cavalry Professional Indoor Football Team announced today they will play in the Indoor Football League (IFL) beginning with the 2011 season. The Cavalry organization was unanimously accepted into the IFL by their Board of Directors earlier in the day.
The move reacquaints the Cavalry with rival teams Billings Outlaws, Sioux Falls Storm, Sioux City Bandits, Omaha Beef and Tri-Cities Fever, and creates an automatic 'I-25 border-war' with the Colorado Ice out of Ft. Collins. The IFL - a merger between the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football - enters its third year with a national footprint of just under 30 teams.
Although the IFL is only in its third year, most of the teams have been operating for 5 or more years. The Cavalry celebrate twelve years of professional indoor football when the 2011 season begins.
"We are opening a new chapter for the fans and supporters of the Wyoming Cavalry," says Director of Business Operations, Argeri Layton. "It's an exciting time to be a Cavalry fan!"
Division alignment for the Cavalry will be determined during league meetings next week, and the 14-game schedule is slated to be available in November.
"We look forward to meeting and working with our new business partners in the IFL, and we anxiously anticipate the camaraderie, as well as the on-field competition," continues Layton.
"We are proud to welcome the Wyoming Cavalry to our established league," says IFL Commissioner, Tommy Benezio. "The IFL's desire is to grow in quality and I can not think of a better way to achieve this goal than the addition of the Wyoming Cavalry. A team with such an impressive history and polished management multiplies the overall strength of our league."
The public is invited to the press conference on Sept. 21 at 2 pm - location to be announced - to hear more details about the 2011 season. Fans interested in reserving season tickets may contact the Cavalry office at 307.232.8170 or email info@wyomingcavalry.com.
It is definately long overdue and very welcomed! I can't wait to see the old teams again as well as being able to travel more to see them play too!!

Wow, just wow, for a few reasons. First, the IFL, and UIF before that, has been after the Casper market for years because of its strategic geographic location as well as to restore old IFL/NIFL rivalries. The travel costs of several teams will drop, and other cities in the region looking at indoor football will have no reason to look at the AIFA. The geographical oddity created when Wyoming left the NIFL has now been corrected.
Perhaps most significant is what this says about the AIFA. It's no secret the Cavs didn't want to join the IFL, and that may be putting it mildly. There was bad blood between their ownership and some of the IFL teams, dating back to when UIF was formed and Wyoming wasn't invited. I've been told by a source within the AIFA that Cavs ownership was given a bigger voice in that league. The fact that they've bridged all those differences with the IFL so quickly may say a lot about the state of affairs in the AIFA, a purported national league with no teams in the Central and Mountain timezones if Ogden is done.

Totally agreed. THAT SAID, there's only one UIF ownership group left that was there when Wyoming got snubbed by the UIF (Bob Scott, Sioux City). That was probably also a mitigating factor, as Scott seems to be the type that'd do anything to save him money anyways (rather than try to screw a CS confidante...though Wyoming wouldn't save him money).
Though this won't help Wyoming win games, attendance was much higher when they were 5-9 and 4-10 in the NIFL every year anyways.

According to the radio and Argeri, They looked at the business plan of the AIFA this year and they were skeptical about it and didn't think it was in the best interest of the team to go thru another season with it. I don't know what they saw but it was enough to say enough is enough

That makes a lot of sense. Of course, as bad as that business plan was when it included the Cavalry, it's now much worse with their loss. That entire AIFA conference was built, and rebuilt ad nauseum, around the Wyoming Cavalry; they were the lynchpin. Give the Cavs credit, they stuck around one season too long when the NIFL was going down in flames. It appears they learned their lesson.

Any ideas on what the AIFA Yakima Valley Warriors will do now since Wenatchee and Wyoming have joined the IFL? This leaves them isolated in the NW. http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=4083730

As far as the AIFA goes, that's really the question. If Wenatchee does indeed join the IFL, Yakima is isolated with few viable options anywhere near.

If I'm not mistaken, Yakima is one of the teams that is at least partly owned by AIFA investors. So while jumping to the IFL might be best for the location ... The ownership might be looking at things through slightly different colored glasses.

Yes, they are, but they have the resources to boot out M&M and do it themselves.

As much as I don't like losing, I'd rather be 7-7 in the IFL with our old rivalries and good competition instead of notching 13-1 with only one or two good games every year. Here's to seeing the Outlaws, Storm, Beef & Bandits back at the CEC.... and also looking forward to games against the Ice. It will be nice to get a road game or two in within a 4 hour drive.

Yes, I hope so....Maybe they will sell this Yakima team to a local investor. The savings on travel and more fan support will help all IFL teams in WA put money back into their teams.

This news article mentions Cincinnati and Fresno.
Could Fresno be the SJ Wolves of the AIFA? From what Ive been reading on here is that SJ could be moving to a new location.

I've been told the CIncinnati rumor may come directly from these boards. No one's sure what the CIFL Cincy team is doing.

Nope...I think the Fresno team is the ol' Central Valley Coyotes. Hopefully we'll hear something substantial for Tucson soon...
As for Cincy, I think the IFL could be the only destination for them. Wonder if the Toledo Bullfrogs still plan on playing in 2011?

I would love to see Cheyenne finally wake up and get a true minor league football team in town. Not sure if the TJ Center is big enough to house a team or not. I think a team in Cheyenne would really make a great I-25 series with Casper and Co Ice.

TJEC seats 604 in the balcony..... the playing surface would be plenty big enough, but......

You could never even come close to breaking even with that many seats. I really wish the city would do more with the place what a BIG WASTE.

Cheyenne is plenty big enough to support an IFL team... and it would be great to have an in-state rivalry just a mere 2 1/2 hours away.

I agree 100% that there are enough people in Cheyenne that it should be able to support a IFL team but I have seen the support they give to the summer baseball team they have and it is sad. The interstate rivalry would be awesome too! There might be more football fans and being it is indoors might help but with only a little over 600 seats not sure how you could make ends meet. I am a huge minor league fan and supporter and was so disappointed when I got to Cheyenne and found there was nothing out here.
