Well here it is. Doing a little research while not opening presents or eating.
The perfect start for this 4 man hockey league would be a four team league in 2004. I would go with with Tupelo, Monroe, Alexandria and Little Rock. I know that these cities were from the old WPHL but it would be grea place t to start a 4 man hockey league.
These teams are within bussing distance and the arenas are in good shape. What do you think?
I would own all of the teams and than expand out similar to what Dittman is doing with the IFL in Texas.

Is this Splinter by any chance? You have talked big about starting leagues like Mud Football and The CAGE but never delivered. In fact you usually pull a LONG disappearing act when you decide you don't really want to go through with it. If that is you, (and the region you want your league to be played in implies this,) then please don't get anyone's hopes up unless A) you have the cash to do it this time or B) have the people in place this time.

Agreed. I don't know if this is you Splinter, but if it is, don't go off half-cocked ok?

I do agree that a 4-on-4 Hockey league at the Minor league level could work, but please don't do it because you think its going to be a big rage. I would hate too have someone make a 4-on-4 Hockey League only too have the idea colapse because it was ran poorly. This would discourage the idea of a 4-on-4 Hockey league by anyone else, maybe even the WHA.

If you want too make a league like this, who am I too judge, but please do it right and not make it because you are trying too make a quick buck!

Another thing to consider is the fact that the WHA is starting up next year. Spider, you were gauging intrest if "people didn't want to wait for the WHA to start up". The people aren't going to have to wait for very long. You wouldn't be able to run until next year anyway because you'd have to secure arena deals, league and team officials, players, referees, advertising, sell season tickets etc.

As far as I'm concerned outside of the new WHA the only place I would put a small league together with 4on4 would be California. (Roller Hockey International's one true stronghold throughout it's history.) That kind of hockey is very popular out there.

First of all, I know Splinter, we work for the same company in Arkansas. He is currently working in Oklahoma on a project not related to sports. He is a big sports fanatic and he likes to come up with all kinds of ideas. I guess he has posted several on this board at one time or another.

Anyway, I guess, I too, am thinking on new angles. I do like the 4 on 4 hockey idea. Hockey at one time was big here in Arkansas. Heck, we even had two teams playing in the same city. Now all we have is a jr. hockey team in Texarkana.

I know that the CHL bought out the old WPHL and picked up most of the teams. I also know that the Glacercats were gone before this even happened as well as Monroe and Alexandria. Tupelo played jr hockey and then folded after the CHL decided not to let them play in the SEHL.

I think that the 4 on 4 concept would work in these four cities if it were done right. Don't want to start anything big right off of the bat, but it could work here and in time grow.

With the exception of Little Rock, I don't think the WHA2 has any plans of coming in to these cities. Af far as Little Rock, the team would play at the fairgrounds rather than the arena downtown.

I realize that it takes a lot of cash to start up a league like this even with four teams. I am a promoter and I believe there is money out there to launch a league like this.

The problem is that there are way too many leagues, way too many teams and not nearly enough quality players to make a new league, (unless it is an intended rival to the NHL,) worthwhile. Hockey is a very big risk in your region and has been for decades. Add this to the fact that bad hockey is something most Americans have proven they won't pay to see, your league would stand a snowball's chance in hell in the current marketplace. Doing it on the cheap will only make things worse and your venture shorter lived.
