From a previous post I had stated that the Marvin Barnes division had three teams with no information available. Make that two teams.
It seems that the North Carolina, Carolina, Raleigh Renegades has been bumped back to 2006. I cant imagine that it makes their owner happy since he relies on tryout fees and sponsorship monies to fund activities.
Now that leaves only Norfolk, Charlotte, Richmond and Maryland in the 'Bad News' Division. Hey, ironic of the nickname huh?
The Maryland team announced their venue last week & the Krunk are playing at the Cricket.
Now I know that the Norfolk squad has a nickname but no other information has been made available. Their website logo is nice but when you click it, the main ABA site comes up.
Still no word or email reply from Richmond.
With that being said, San Antonio was dropped from the league due to the fact it didnt meet the league requirements for the 2005 season. How in the hell can Norfolk and Richmond still be in the league if they dont have any of the pre-requisites done?
Other ABA tidbits...
Toledo has their venue announced on the ABA site, yet there is no information regarding the SeaGate Center being home of the Ice on their main site. To me, that would be big news and I would have that headline plastered all over my site. The SeaGate Center is very nice and administration should be very wary of their new tennant. Maybe not the team itself, but surely keep your eye on the league.
According to Shawn Blattenberger, CEO of the Aftershock, "We have been extremely busy putting together the business operations as well has competing in the Long Beach Summer League. We thought it best to postpone until a little later. We have sent notices to all of those who have registered and they will certainly be welcome to the camp. We hope this hasn't inconvenienced anyone."
I am curious to know the number of pre-registered campers. Better yet, were they sent a refund with that notice?
How can you accept a team for the 2005-06 season now? Now I understand that as Joe puts it, "We added the team for several reasons. The ownership group will be led by Al Howell, an extremely experienced Canadian sports executive who has served as a Canadian consultant to the league since its inception. He knows the ABA, he knows Canada and he knows basketball. He can jumpstart this operation quickly and effectively. We have great confidence in Al and his people. And next, we felt that this would greatly enhance the division with rivalries in Detroit, Rochester, Buffalo and Montreal."
Well Detroit, c'mon, dont get me going. But the fact that Joe had a deadline and he brushed it aside (I am not sure he needed the extra $10,000), how can any of his rules and pre-requisites be taken seriously.
Listen, I am not an ABA hater, just a realist who enjoys the game. But fix the current situation in the Marvin Barnes division, quit adding teams post-deadline, acknowledge you are having problems, and keep this thing moving forward.
