I thought I'd just post about my first PCL and AAA game experience.

I drove my girlfriend down to Clarksville to see her family. Before we went down I suggested going to see the Nashville Sounds one day just to do something cheap. We took her niece with us and went and saw the Sounds play the Memphis Redbirds Wednesday afternoon.

I was really impressed with the team, I guess the Sounds have about the most stacked team in minor league ball (at least that was their big claim in the program). The game itself was a lot of fun but the heat was really intense, a consistent 94 degrees, and the ballpark was both ancient and dead: the box score listed an announced attendence of 3,882 but there probably really wasn't more than 200 people there. I kind of liked the sort of 70s baby-blue look of the ballpark, the Sounds's scoreboard is the shape of a Guitar, but there was no shade anywhere and my girlfriend and her niece got burned pretty bad where we were seating (the general admission seats along the visiting dugout).

I've been lurking on this message board for about a year now and noticed a couple people posting from the Nashville area, Houston Caldwell specifically and was wondering what they thought of the Sounds. I had a hard time finding info about the ball club anywhere. Clarksville's paper didn't even have updated scores or standings listed in the paper and the Tennessean didn't have much beyond that day's time for the game; I didn't even know it was a noon game until buying the Wednesday paper in the morning. The Nashville news didn't mention the game at all that night. Living in a city that's absolutely in love with their ballclub (Dayton) it kind of amazed me the type of apathy the media has for the Sounds it seems. Granted Dayton isn't a major league town but hell the paper, radio, and local TV seem to devote more time to the Dragons than the Reds. Otherwise, I have to say I was pretty impressed by the team and the game. Hopefully they stick around...
