Press release from 11 PM EST 12-25-2003 (take it for what it's worth):

Near Perfect Goaltending Keeps Ice Nuts Perfect!

In a weekend highlighted by big offensive numbers, goaltending proved to be the most important item in helping the Lansing Ice Nuts stay perfect in the International Independent Hockey League (IIHL).

Goaltender Glenn Ridler was voted as Player of the Week winner in the IIHL after backstopping a Friday night victory over the visiting Soo City Mavericks and then coming on in relief to key a Saturday night triumph to complete a sweep of the two-game homestand against the visitors from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

The Lansing Ice Nuts completed a 3-0 weekend homestand at MSU's Munn Arena by beating the Ohio Valley Ice Cats 6-2 on Sunday.

After beating the Mavericks 5-3 on Friday night, Ridler was brought in 32
seconds into the second period Saturday night in replacement of Rick Nichol with the Ice Nuts behind 4-2. His excellent netminding helped them rally to win 6-4 with an empty net goal in the closing seconds culminating the effort.

In 99.28 minutes of action during the weekend, Ridler faced a total of 53
shots and stopped 49 for a .924 save percentage.

"Ridler is a very confident goaltender," said head coach Chris laisuis. "He
uses that confidence in the game to his advantage. He played two seasons in the OHL where he faced some of the top guys who are now in the NHL, and that has definitely helped his game. He played very well not only in Friday night's game when we allowed 38 shots on him but also in relief on Saturday."

In 4.66 games this season, Ridler has posted a 5-0-0 record while facing 170 shots and allowing only 14 goals for a 3.00 GAA and .917 save percentage.

Ridler was selected over candidates from his own team who combined to rack up 17 goals on the weekend, as well as the big shooters on a Northern Michigan Predators squad that won in a 15-2 offensive explosion Saturday night against the visiting Ohio Valley Ice Cats.

The Ice Cats, who lost an overtime game to Lansing exactly a week earlier, were beaten 6-2 in Lansing on Sunday night to fall to 0-3-1 on the season.

The Predators improved to 2-4-0 for 4 points to move ahead of the 1-3-0 Soo City Mavericks.

The Detroit-based Motor City Snipers open their season on Saturday in Lansing at 7:30 pm against the unbeaten Ice Nuts (now sporting a perfect 7-0-0 record for 14 points).

The Soo City Mavericks host the Northern Michigan Predators Friday night in their home opener at 7:30 pm at the Pullar Center in Sault Ste. Marie,
Michigan.
