While listening to the LaCrosse/West Michigan game last night there was a call late in the fourth quarter that left me scratching my head. Because I was only listening to the audio feed by the hometown radio announcers I might not have the 'whole story' on what happened, but here's what it seemed like....
-West Michigan kicked off to LaCrosse after a score (field goal?). During the return some sort of penalty was called against LaCrosse. I wasn't able to tell who it was on, but from what the radio guys were saying it almost sounds like it was called against the coach...?
-There was a long delay after the play ended, I believe the refs were discussing what was called. Following the delay the refs called for a redo of the kickoff.
-Kickoff was redone. Following the LaCrosse return the penalty was assessed.
Ok, here's my question(s). Why in the world would the refs call for a redo on the kickoff? And after the redo, why did they still assess the penalty? It seems to me that in calling for a redo, they were "undoing" the penalty that was called.
