Arlington Bulldogs Upset Ranked #8 West Texas Whirlwinds
March 6, 2010 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
The Arlington Bulldogs traveled to Killeen, Texas to take on the ABA's #8 ranked team, West Texas Whirlwinds of Midland Texas. The two teams would not disappoint the many fans, as they put on a great show for those in attendance. The game began with strong intensity leaving the first quarter ending with a Bulldogs lead at 29-24.
The battle between the Bulldogs and the Whirlwinds continued on as both teams played hard offensively and defensively throughout the game. Maurice "Snoop" Williams, shined early and often as he dropped 15 points in the first half. The Bulldogs found themselves down by one point at the end of the first half leaving the score 52-53.
The third quarter would be no different than the previous two as the two very talented teams continued to slug it out, with the quarter ending 77-78 Whirlwinds. The fourth quarter would represent what ABA basketball is all about as neither team wanted to concede defeat and continued to battle on. The Bulldogs came up huge down the stretch as they stepped to the free-throw line late in the fourth to finally put the game out of reach.
In the end, the Bulldogs prevailed 109-105 against the Whirlwinds, winning against the ABA's #8 ranked team.
"It was a great game to be a part of," stated Bulldogs Head Coach, Aaron Evans. "It was the kind of game people tell their kids about. It was an instant ABA classic."
The Bulldogs were led in scoring, rebounding, and assists by Maurice "Snoop" Williams, who went for 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists. Second in Bulldogs scoring was newly acquired A'Daeron A.D. Duncan who dropped 26 points, shooting 100 percent from the free-throw line a solid 13-13. Duncan also had 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the game. The backcourt of Jessie Haynes and Detonio Hawkins combined for 40 points, 9 steals, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists. While the Center position anchored by Jemarcus Williams and Alan Brockington contributed a solid 16 points, 19 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Three words got me rolling here: "Instant ABA Classic" ???
"Snoop" Williams on the Bulldog's? Why not call him?...Oh, never mind, that one
was taken by somebody else touring the ABA a few years back...
