Dang! They're changing the 2010 league schedule around already? After it's already been released? Why just the Rush alone have four games rescheduled. That's pretty amateur stuff. Very indoor footballish dontcha think? ;)

Yeah...I had assumed they would have every team playing twice essentially. Oh, well. My poor Battlewings only get ONE flipping televised game. I can only assume they wanted teams that might attract more attention maybe?

Maybe? Ya think? Unfortunately, during today's teleconference Kurz made it a point to say they are chasing Bon Jovi for a Philly next year and will not rule out future NFL ownership. So say good bye to smaller market teams, like Bossier-Shreveport, in the new AF of L. Sigh, I guess there's always that tier II to hope for.

Yea. Kinda suprised Chicago got six games (you think Mike Ditka had anything to do with that). I kind of thought Dallas and JAX with Aaron Garcia would have gotten more games.

But money talks and Chicago is the biggest market this year.

As a Vipers fan, I am very disappointed that the Vipers are the only team in the league that will not be on the NFL network broadcast package of AFL games.

Understand that Huntsville may be the smallest city in the league, but they do draw from a large population base in north Alabama and south Tennessee...You would think that both the league and network would realize that having at least one of the Vipers games on the NFL network might help them to get increased exposure and draw more fans.

Understand the network is working off of ratings and they do have to target the teams in large populations areas / centers; but also know that if a team is in the league, then they do deserve some amount of respect.

Exchanged e-mails with a member of the Vipers management, and they are most definetely not happy about being left off the list of televised games.

What will really be funny and also some amount of "poetic" justice; is if the Vipers end up in the AFL championship game.....Now that would be funny... :)

Being left off of the TV schedule might be a good motivating factor for this team... :)

What would be even funnier is if Huntsville was the highest seed remaining of the two title game teams and the league moved the championship to a more suitable arena.

As others have alluded to, it sounds like it is the arena and its inability to accomodate a broadcast that was the deciding factor to screw the Vipers out of a TV appearance.

Reference: "As others have alluded to, it sounds like it is the arena and its inability to accomodate a broadcast that was the deciding factor to screw the Vipers out of a TV appearance."

Just curious as to where you heard this.....Granted the Von Braun Center is not the greatest place to play, but I would say that it is far from a "dump" as some might term it....Small yes (7.5K), but the facility is undergoing renovation and currently accomodates an NCAA Division I Hockey team from UAH, and hosted an Auburn University Men's Basketball game earlier this year. Believe that events have been televised from here in the past, so not sure why there is an inability to accomdate a broadcast.

Know that at one time, they were looking at a two-tier system for Arena Football One (Now AFL), with Huntsville most likely being in the 2nd tier...If there was an issue with arena size, market size, etc; then they should have gone ahead with a 2nd tier, and if not enough teams to do this; then the Vipers should have been told to sit out this year. You need to try to treat teams the same, to a certain extent.....If they are not good enough to be part of the national broadcast package, then they have no business in the league.

Reference your comment about the Vipers getting to the championship game and being made to move to a more suitable arena.....Comment may have been made in jest, but this could actually happen. If that were to occur, could see the AFL moving the game to the BJCC in Birmingham.....If AFL is successful, will most likely see the Vipers or another franchise in Birmingham, with Huntsville having a tier-2 team.

I was really hoping for the Iron @ Shock game to be on NFLN, but I guess there's always nifty.

I myself was a Birmingham Steeldog fan would love to see a team back at the BJCC, but they would need owners with deep pockets as the rent at the BJCC is too steep and they get 30% of your merchandise take at games, and they do not share concessions. I know for a fact that was the Steeldogs had for a deal at the BJCC. It would well fit what the league might want but no one in there right mind would put a team there unless they could get a better deal. With the possible Dome stadium on there radar they will be looking to get all the money they can get and will bleed a franchise dry.

I am all for a team in Birmingham I would be one of the 1st ones inline for tickets as will all my Steeldog fan club friends, but I just don't see it happening.

I also would hate to not have the Vipers to play. Even though they usually kicked our butts. It was a fun rivalry. Fans got along and it was an easy drive to an away game.
