Good move by the UFL and I hope the team does move to Hartford

MSG.com has learned that Giants quarterbacks coach Chris Palmer has moved on from Big Blue and is about to be named head coach of the UFL's New York Sentinels.

Palmer, who just completed his third year with Big Blue, has over 20 years as an NFL assistant coach, tutoring big-named quarterbacks such as Mark Brunell, Drew Bledsoe, Tony Romo and Eli Manning. He also has head coaching experience, serving as the Browns' head coach from 1999-2000 and two stints as a college coach at New Haven (1986-87) and Boston University (1988-89).

The Sentinels recently fired their head coach, Ted Cottrell, and are reportedly relocating the franchise to Hartford.

The loss of Palmer will be a blow to Giants coach Tom Coughlin and Manning, who has had superb seasons under Palmer, including a Super Bowl victory. The move will give the 37-year veteran coach a chance to be closer to his home in Hartford.

His stint in Cleveland never really did him justice, and in my opinion set him
back as a head coach for the wrong reasons.

1) He took over an expansion team.
2) The same team which was really embarrassed in its first game back
on national television. (A 43-0 home loss to Pittsburgh on ESPN Sunday
Night Football.)
3) Was criticized for putting an inexperienced rookie (Tim Couch) in at
quarterback, by the same people who believed Couch's "time was now".
(He was named starter for the second game of the season.)
4) Was accused of not being a defensive minded coach, when he never
really said that he was.
5) Was criticized for not uniting the team after the Orlando Brown penalty
flag incident.
6) Although it wasn't his idea, the UFO defense didn't work and had the
fans understanding what the "unidentified" part of it really meant.

I had always figured him as the next coach of Houston after Dom Capers.
Instead, Palmer was the one fired in early 2005.

Hopefully, this will give him a chance to redeem himself.

...and ditto on the move to Hartford. It seems like a natural choice for
relocation.
