Rookie here... Not sure if this topic has come up in the past, but wondering if it's possible to invest in baseball teams such as GBL or other independant leagues. If so, are there any web sites that offer information on this. I love the game and would love to contribute to viable team. Alot of talk about tight budgets for all teams, what a way to generate capital if one could buy shares into a team. This theory has done wonders for the Green Bay Packers! Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this

Check with XnE, they are the owners of the new Maui team and have opened up 40% of the team for investors. Their website is www.xneinc.com and they also own the rights to 3 more teams in Hawaii.

Thanks Lukhead,

Are there any other leagues/teams that offer this as well? I am just reading the info now, wondering if this company you mentioned offers dividens? Thanks for the tip

The OC Flyers have an LLC that own them... go to the website and you can contact the managing partners to find out details.

Thanks Flyer, I noticed that OC had the lowest attendance last season with an average of 944/game( only 30 games at home, why?).Ouch! With Long Beach folding I assume that average will increase.

Ditto on the "Ouch!"

I followed that team more closely in 2008 when they won the championship.
Both Los Angeles teams had good MLB seasons, maybe it took some interest
away.

Anybody have the 2008 attendance number?

we have had many attendance discussions on this site. Let's just say many of the teams are not reporting actual in-seat attendance, OC does, so our numbers look low. Not to say more fans wouldn't be appreciated! Hope to see more and more... but you are right, with 2 major league teams and many other entertainment choices in the area, pulling a crowd is a challenge.

is it wise to invest in this league? I mean, OC has one of the worst draws in the league, of course they only had 30 home games. If you were the owner of that team, wouldn't you be jumping up and down trying to re-schedule games at home to increase revenue? The company that is putting together the Hawaiian teams, didn't their St.George team go bankrupt?

As a general statement, I think any independent baseball ownership would welcome the discussion about investment into their franchise.

Local businesses deciding to work with the baseball teams at below market rates is the secret ingredient. Think: bus companies, vendors/concessionaires, printing services, merchandiser/apparel, all your baseball supplies/groundskeeping, local hotel.

If you can get a break here and there by trading services/advertising, it can also foster community involvement/grounding. Finding, working with, and rewarding local businesses for their investment in the baseball team is part of building roots.
