Well with the GBL finally getting there act together and releasing there league schedule all we can wait for is the season to start. It's good to see a new team and Maui and the Tijuana franchise coming into play this season. What does everyone think of the new rules of the GBL eliminating the DH, implementing a waiver wire, increasing player saleries? I think getting rid of the DH is a dumb idea because who want's to see the pitcher come up to bat, the only advantage to not haveing the DH is shortening up games and bringing down the ERA's of the pitchers. I figured with not having the DH many players would maybe shy away from the GBL but the increase in player salaries should help. Anyone have news on any players returning to there teams? I know in Edmonton they have mad a few deals but it's been pretty quiet so far.

I never liked the DH rule as I think that if you're a player on a baseball team, then you should be able to bat what matter what position you play. Just my humble opinion...
As for the scheduler, I don't think there was need to increase to 90 games. The Vipers already have problems drawing people on weeknights, so why increase the number of games. Wasn't 84 games enough? But that's a minor complaint of mine.
The real issue I have is the split-season. I never liked it and I never will. Have one long season and the top two teams in each division make the playoffs instead of starting from scratch midway. Split-season = el stinko.
I was hoping the Vipers would travel to Maui as I was planning quite the road trip, but alas no hula girls for me this season.

I can never figure out the GBL's schedule. As a new Viper (ex-Armada) fan, I too was really looking forward to catching some games in Maui.

Hey Ed,
You can always be a armada fan. I will be a flyers fan this year since I may be co-sponsoring them :)

Love it. Thrilled. I'm an NL guy, so I'll be happy to watch double switches and suicided squeezes in the GBL from here on. My view on the DH is that he's a player that can't play baseball. Pitchers, en masse, are better hitters than DHs are position players.
I think getting rid of the DH is a dumb idea because who want's to see the pitcher come up to bat,
Me. For one thing, a clutch hit from a pitcher is as exciting as it gets (though I'll admit that it's exciting due to the rarity of it, on average), plus it beats watching some no-kneed clubbasaur take three swings for the fences, sit down for half an hour, and then repeat.
the only advantage to not haveing the DH is shortening up games and bringing down the ERA's of the pitchers.
Not always true. There's be more substiutions in the DH-less GBL, so there'll be more breaks for pitchers to warm up and the like. I've read that the difference between the leangth of the average NL and AL game is 4-minutes at best.
I figured with not having the DH many players would maybe shy away from the GBL.
I'm not sure why this would be the case. DHs are plentiful in MLB (look at the current free agent market). If you're a DH in the GBL, I think you could all but cancel your MLB dreams anyways.

It will be very exciting watching the games again in the GBL...longer games = more beer time:D:D...also more blisters and more bats needed...ha...:redface:Pitchers were always some of the better hitters thru college and HS..should be fun. My son is already in the cages again and looking forward to the season even more. Throw a bullpen then hit and bunt for an hour.maybe more $$...what a life!!

Just looked on the GBL transaction page and seen the Calgary Vipers signed RHP Matt Morris. Is the the same Matt Morris that spent 11 years in the Majors?

I'm looking forward to it. I love baseball and am finally close enough to make a daytrip to Edmonton for Caps games. I noticed the schedule is up but doesn't have any times on it though. Do they play mostly evening games or are there afternoon games usually on weekends?
