So the draft took place and according to the 'insiders' (A1 and NSF), the event was well handled on the inside, meetings took place, sponsors were introduced, etc. The post-production of the draft that will be 'steamed' online will probably be a very top-notched showcase. I thought it was done well last season. And to have it done live without proper commercials is a drag to watch anyway...way too much downtime between picks.
The issues that have folks have was the league stated the draft was to be held live...it was not. No matter how great it was inside, the league promised something that wasn't delivered. Not our fault. Did I want to watch the draft? not really...but what about the ten (now nine) teams who told their fans that it was to be held live? Are the real fans from Halifax really going to take a plane to watch a draft? Even you can't be serious calling out real fans.
Another issue is the new website has not been launched...the one that has been advertised for the last five weeks. I understand that they showed the new site to the sponsors, great. But no one else said that it was going to be launched, the league did...and it hasn't.
So players are happy to be drafted, owners are happy to be part of something special, sponsors happy to be on board...it was done like that last year. Lets hope this year things change.
Did you offer your services as an advisor, or mention you could join their fan committee while you were at the event? It is clear that they could use more people like you.
